Just came home from
The Avengers....I thought they took a little longer to set it up than they needed to, but then that could be because it was my favourite comic for years so I am totally familiar with the characters and just wanted to get to the part where they kick ass and take names.
Once it got there though; awesome fight scenes, reasonably intelligent superhero movie with only a couple of plot holes you kinda had to use your Suspension of Disbelief powers for, and Joss Whedon is as good at characterisation as ever.
I was actually dubious about how this would work as a film....having peak humans with weapons like Hawkeye and Black Widow in a movie with literal gods like Thor and might-as-well-be-a-god the Hulk could have come off terribly, but it was really well done I felt. Everyone felt like they were equally as useful as one another.
Being that it was Whedon, I'm kind of surprised he didn't slip some more women into the film as it's what he's known for writing...and for anyone who knows the history of the comic, I think he would actually do a freakin' amazing Wasp (Hank Pym too, now that I think about it). Maybe the next movie...
Without giving anything away, I also literally gasped out loud and punched my non-comic nerd friend in the arm several times in excitement when I saw who it looks like they're setting up as the villain for the next movie.
BECAUSE IT WILL BE AMAZING.
So all up, quite enjoyable, in the same league as X-Men First Class I would say!
