Sometimes when I have too much on my mind I take oxycodone to relax and so I can sleep better later. Or when I'm out of it I just take some benadryl.

Anyway, I was hoping for some advice from you guys for some legal and safe things i could take too relieve stress and take things off my mind for a bit.

If you can't get access to Benzos like Etizo/ Diaze/ clono/ etc I find excercising works a treat, whether you like it or not.

i usually have a big meal of fresh organic food and then 8 hours of deep restful drug free sleep, that seems to work for me.

Some good quality food, a hefty dose of cannabis and some meditation!

As far as OTC goes, Benadryl f*cking rocks. Plus you won't have an ugly hangover the next day. You will be hangovered but it's not an opiate hangover, not even a weed hangover. So yeah, on weekdays benadryl is awesome.
Weed for me is the opposite of relaxing, it's great but for thinking not for resting.

Legal? Get you a benzo scripts. They are addicting as hell and may ruin your life but you won't go to jail. That is until the day you take too many and cuss out everyone in the ER (true story though I didn't end up in jail for some reason). A nurse told me his supervisor might write that I was exhibiting drug seeking behavior on my chart. I told him to tell his supervisor to go fuck himself.

I would be really careful about using oxycodone to relax, watch your use doesn't creep up.. opioids work well but I'm always a little cautious if it looks like someone could end up needing to take them to feel okay. Unless they are prescribed for pain and you use them as directed, it's really easy to slip up.

I'd def stay away from benzos haha, for the reasons weekend addiction gave and also because they are horrible to come off if you get addicted. If Benadryl works for you then using that from time to time is okay. Hydroxyzine is a sedating antihistamine that is supposed to have anxiolytic properties and it's one of my fave potentiators but there are quite a few opponents in here ;)

I have a few friends who swear by things like rescue remedy and lavender oil. I'm a little skeptical but they do seem to work for them, placebo or not.

Relaxation and breathing techniques can work really well, and meditation. Have you tried anything like that? Exercise is really good for stress too and helps me relax.

i'm still tryna figure it out.
This.

Legal or illegal medication of any kind does not work. (Well some medication does work but only in the short term and then in the long term it just makes things worse)

Exercise, healthy eating, healthy living does not work.

Watching movies, listening to music etc etc does not work.

Any answers?

I just want my mind to stop but it never does.

^Haha sex is very relaxing despite the increased heart rate and BP. But really there isn't a good long term solution. If you are going to break the law then marijuana can be helpful or harmful. In my case its very helpful. However as far as legal methods there aren't many. This is coming from someone with years of anxiety and drug use (to deal with the anxiety). Healthy living helps to an extent. I bike 5+ miles every day, stretch and lift weights, and eat home cooked healthy meals. This is your best bet but the benefits won't be noticeable for the first week.

^There have been plenty of cases of folks dying during intercourse... says "strain" to me haha. (Perhaps the issue was a lazy partner making 1 of them do all the work, and then wind up dead... haha ah well)

The "healthy" alternative is definitely #1; helps me 100% (when it's warm enough out.. which is 4-6 months in New England..).

I biked 10 miles everday and ate home cooked healthy meals for 8 years.

It didnt help.

I just need something to stop my thoughts, healthy living and healthy eating i agree are good for you, as is plenty of exercise but no matter how tired you are pysically it doesnt/didnt help me switch off mentally.

^ well then you should look into meditation imo. im only starting again after many months without, but only 20-30min really calms my mind. there are many different techniques so you should look what fits you best. but it is not an instant thing, it needs to be practised.

I've been giving Tai Chi a go and I'm finding it really useful, I think you need to find the right kind of teacher, fate kind of lead me to this person and I'm not usually one for thinking such things but he's a really good guy and invited me to his own home discuss my situation prior to me starting. He knew his shit with ADs and mental and physical health as well. We found some real commonality in our spiritual beliefs and he knows my history now so I trust the guy and feel comfortable at the classes.

I'm a long way from being in any way learned in the art, it's the sort of thing you could spend a life time at, I have a number of physical problems so it's worked well for me as I don#t find meditation etc. suit me very well at the moment, I'm to frigidity and lose focus, but I can already see after only 5 sessions how I'm looser in my shoulders and how the patterns and breathing can empty my racing mind.

Not for all I'm sure but if meditation doesn't appeal it may be worth a go.

the only thing that has ever worked for me is opiates. my psych keeps suggesting healthy eating/exercising, like, NO, FUCK YOU, CUNT, THAT SHIT DON'T WORK. might give meditation a try though.

Honestly, I think some of us are just wired this way.
I sympathize with what you say...
and remember saying the same thing many times...

It is possible to find a way to come to terms with it.

The only 2 suggestions I can think of which haven't been mentioned:

#1..
Writing is an excellent way to let your thoughts out..if only to center them onto one thing...
I would highly recommend creatively written f-you letters for starters..
then maybe move on to short stories about the many different ways people could die from having sex...
but that's just off the top of my head..besides..
You should go your own way...

#2:
Reminding yourself of those people out there who's minds have stopped ..
Is that really a place you wanna go?
