Just wanted to start a thread about cactus enthusiasts in Melbourne. Not after sources, locations, extraction tips or anything. Just to share the love of the holy plant spirits.

Peace.

Yeah, I have a Peruvian Torch, used to have a San Pedro but got rid of it. Got lots of little succulents and cacti in one corner of the garden. And this huge one that used to be green but has now turned a light shade of blue for some reason.

Just off the top of my head, turning blue is a phosphorus deficiency? You might want to Google that, I can't remember exactly which element it is.

Unless it's perfectly normal for cacti to turn blue :)

hmmm - why only melbournites? You got something against the rest of us? :D

Hah! Yes, I am very stateist.

Thanks for pointing that out, could a mod please change the title to Australian Cacti/Succulent enthusiasts?

I'll upload some photos of my plants tomorrow.

can you graft peyote 'pups' to another faster growing cacti, say san pedro?

yeh pics would be good, cacti are crazy little creatures

grafting peyote is a very common practice. just google "peyote graft" and see the weird results.

I'm not sure of the psychoactivity of the grafts however - once you reach this level of expertise, consumption isn't really your motive.

my current addition to the homestead.

ive since repotted, and is looking mad healthy. will update as nature progresses.

I don't have any yet but have someone who has put aside some san pedro for me. It will be interesting to see how it grows. I found this thing on my friends balcony no idea what species it is but it had its growth stunted for a little while and grew into a strange alien head shape. Pic quality is a bit low sorry it was on a shitty phone.

They also had some cool phallic ones which have been dubbed the "cocktus"

^ can you try taking another photo? that doesn't look like san pedro to me...but it could be the lighting (or lack thereof)

No I dont think it is either. No way its getting cut no matter what it is its got a little face on it and everything. I haven't been back there for a while not sure if it will look the same in the cold light of day either...

Some plants have Glaucous properties among whitch lots of species of cacti. There is a pretty average description of glaucous plants on Wikipedia ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaucous :)

Last time I moved house I parted ways with virtually every cactus I had, which was dozens of them. A heap of local people snapped some up, I gave some to friends and sadly lots ended up being binned :(

^ I had about a dozen of these guys that were over head height in the ground that had to be dug out and binned. I grew them from seed. Virtually every seed I put down germinated, there were hundreds of them. Cactus are great because they are independent...

That is Cereus Peruvianus. It is extremely common and does not contain Mescaline.

I have around 300 active Cacti in my garden. Awesome hobby for a stoner.

I'm impressed that anyone could ID it from that pic. Even if it did have mescaline it is strictly ornamental due to its cute little face, the san pedro are else where I'm guessing they will also be mostly ornamental.

Thanks mate. Once you get to know them you can pick them from a mile away. There is that reason and also because I thought Cereus Peruvianus must be a misprint of Trichocereus Peruvianus years ago when I wasted a fortune on them from Bunnings :)

I've got a little San Pedro (I think!) in the care of a good friend. Inspiring photos guys - I'll be stoked if he grows that big.
