I have been on many anti depressants and have had little to no success with them. I recently was put on effexor. I titrated up quickly and within 2 weeks or so i was taking 225mg a day. my doc then moved me to 300 but that gave me some side effects i did not like. It strongly effected my cognitive ability. I felt spaced out.

so anyway, i went back down to 225mg. problem gone. Its helping a slight bit with my depression and anxiety, but not enough. I would like suggestions on what might augment effexor and help get my depression under control. Im on risperdal right now but i plan to get off of it as soon as i can. I dont feel like it helps one bit. '

So. Please, anyone with knowledge on this matter, share what know with me. whats good for augmenting effexor. I know lamictal, and mirtazapine can be augmenters.

Firstly, I was on effexor for several months..along w/xanax as needed.
To me effexor was of no benefit, and honestly I just felt "dumbed down:..I mean, even more than usual!
My dr. at the time..did suggest implementing a small dose of olanzapine (Zyprexa).to augment.
But, by then I had stopped listening to such things..maybe it was the dumbed down part of me..
but I was just done with all of them.

I do know that Effexor can take a good 6-8 weeks to really feel full benefit..and there are lots of peeps who've
found it helpful. It sounds like you may be showing some improvement..
maybe give it a little more time..
and I'm just relating what was suggested to me..

That said...lamictal and mirtazapine are the go-to's I believe when it comes to augmenting effexor as you already know.

Hey..cheer up..it's all in your head, you know...;)
j/k..j/k..
Am I the only one ppl used to say that to?

This has been of little help, I'm sure..
That's what I'm good at though...

I hope you find what you need.
Best of luck!

I suspect mood stabilizers like Lamictal or sedating AD's like Mirtazapine will impair cognitive function far more than a minor dosage increase of Effexor.

Try eating 40g whole grains, 30-40g protein, and 15-20g of good fats, like olive oil, every 4 hours. That, combined with a good, restorative sleep each night will help you so much, seriously.

I follow a very strict diet. My eating habits are great, and i consume plenty of vitamins and minerals each day.
I workout everyday. It helps relieve anxiety and depression but only for a very short time.

Even when im with my best friends doing any number of my favorite activities, im still not happy. i used to enjoy my friends.. i enjoyed all the little things in life. now i cant seem to find those little things. I just want the ability to feel some happy emotions when im doing the things i used to love.

Op..
Personally, I feel risperdal is a horrible... numbing.. depressing.. awful medication which
is completely overprescribed..but that's just me.

I would be curious to see if after you've tapered off...(please taper)..
whether you would feel any improvement.

The Dark Side forum here on BL might be an excellent place for you to visit..
it seems to have helped quite a few ppl..if only just to bitch awhile...
we all need to do that sometimes..
Some people have become experts at it.;)

I hate to see a person feel this way..
it's just difficult to imagine someone here can give you the real answers that you need.
I sincerely wish someone could, though.
Please know the lack of response is not uncaring to help, but probably unknowing how to.
