Alcohol and body building question

I'm curious as to how many body builders you know still can drink alcohol maybe once every week or week and a half, maintain their gains and not get bloated from the calories/carbohydrates.

Every where I go, it seems like body builders maintain a strict regiment of not drinking period.
 
I think drinking every now and then won't effect you're gains much. I personally feel so guilty from doing it that I don't. Whenever I did drink I would feel slightly weaker/irritable the next day.
 
I dunno about its effects with AAS, but before I began taking testosterone I could not build strength/mass and drink every weekend.

Just curious if any AAS users can still manage to drink and maintain a good physique.
 
Only input i have on this,

I have a friend who wants to join the marines and he's heavily training.
He doesnt do illegal drugs, or never has but he occasionally drinks, and he said hes performance sucks the days following.
 
Just like if you eat shit food when Ur on a cycle, drinking beer will make u fat. More fat then drinking it when your not on cycle. I know this because I continued to drink around 8 cans a night when I started my cycle. Got a belly well quick and stopped. After that I cut it to about once every 3 weeks.

And now I don't drink at all. Even tho my cycle has finished.

I can't speak for spirits tho as I never drunk them.

Im sure once a week wouldn't affect it massively but there is probably a reason that everywhere u go body builders strictly don't drink while on cycle.
 
Well I don't even drink beer when I do drink, I never have and I doubt I ever will. I normally drink straight vodka and chase it with water. I then proceed to run around yelling "Vodka Warrior!" holding the bottle like a sword.

The problem isn't necessarily fat gain, but it seems like my muscles melt off of my body after a night of drinking. It may just be dehydration, but my mass gains also seem to be halted for 2-3 days as well.

So if you cannot drink as a body builder, then what is the socially acceptable alternative?
 
i can side with darksides navy buddy..i never used to notice it as bad in the past but these days, if i drink tonight for example, the next day my mood will be lower as will my energy and my workout WILL suck..my mind and motivation simply wont be there..i drank last night, i didnt get drunk but had enough to affect me negatively today..i tried to hit legs but made it about 20 minutes in before i just upped and quit..i was just irritable and restless..

alcohol sucks bottom line :)
 
tbh the best alternative to drinking alcohol is GHb or Bdo..they are much better highs and much more efficient social lubricants...just keep it strictly to social events and u will be fine..

I have a lot of experience with GHB, however it's not socially acceptable. Not to mention after the 5 months of me using it, I have had situations where I took too much in public and needed to quickly find a place to sleep off the 30-45 minute coma without being raced to the hospital by some paranoid individual. Really, the steep dose curve and passing out in public are the only signs of use. Otherwise everyone thinks you're just a really dumb, obnoxious individual.

Lowers testosterone and stops fat burning, shitty feeling the day after. Alcohol is a terrible substance.
 
Alcohol is shit for building muscle and will fuck with your gains. When you muscles are in an anabolic state they tend to have water around the fibers which helps with them healing and getting energy. When you drink, you dehydrate yourself and this water is pushed away, putting yourself muscles into a catabolic state. Alcohol dehydrates the body and depresses the central nervous system, stopping fat burning like Salvatore said.

If I am at a bar or club where everyone is drinking socially, I order a bottle of beer and sip on that fucker the whole time I am there or if I am at a party it's one or two wine coolers. I don't get drunk and I don't drink hard liquor.

I am the same way Renz, literally more than two wine coolers or two beers and I look like shit the next day and can't lift for shit.

When you on steroids, you shouldn't be drinking at all because of the blood pressure and liver issues.
 
renz envy-really??when i took Ghb i was the life of a party..i was warm and empathetic, very social and energetic..sure, there were times i took too much and puked..

lol and the ones that are drinking alcohol are usually the 'dumb, obnoxious individuals' at a party..im sure we can all agree on that..the idiocy that alcohol brings out cant even be debated..

Renz Envy-ok so you want something that you can take alongside people that are drinking??well, what is socially acceptable besides alcohol?id always dose ghb before getting to a party and get my buzz on and be done with it..if they offered drinks id politely refuse..

There is no alternative. You were well aware of the amount of dedication and commitment that this business takes.

Just don't drink to get drunk and you'll be fine. Nothing good ever comes out of intoxication of any sort ever. I can't imagine how much better the world would be if mind altering substances were never spawned on this earth.

i have a friend who gets shitfaced 1-2x weekly. he's never used any steroids or peps other than DHEA for a month a year or so ago yet deadlifts 500+ lbs at the 195-200 lb body weight.

no bloating whatsoever other than a beer belly with a slight six pack on top of it. personally i don't drink at all, but it just goes to show that it shouldn't have much effect on gains.

i actually remember him drinking liqour after a biceps & back work out.

That's not very good logic because you don't know what his lifts could have been had he not drank twice a week.

Not a direct answer to your qu, but alcohol consumption reduces the bodies test production. Heavy use effects it (negatively of course) quite a bit.

Casual sex? One night stands? ZNS's? (zero night stands)? Use ur body to get your freak on. I'm in my mid 40's now but it seems that 'hooking up' is at least as acceptable as it was when I was younger. Keep lots of H2O by the bed and get your cardio on bro!
