herbavore: there is a patch that is quite good for motion sickness. It has scopolamine in it and is available OTC here in Canada in the form of Transderm-V. You put it behind you ear about a day before you go out on the water and for most people Ive known to use it they find that it works. Many people here who work on fishing boats use it often along with dimenhydrinate aka Dramamine. That can lead to a anti-cholinergic nightmare if you are sensitive to those effects so that is perhaps not the best idea unless you are rarely sick. I don't know if you guys have it OTC in the US or not but you might be able to get a prescription for it if it exists down there.

I have never been cursed with sea sickness but Ive used it often enough for nausea and vomiting and it works well for stomach cramps.

In the old days of dramamine, ginger and copper bracelets for seasickness I would have had to have been left behind sobbing on the shore as the rest of you merrily sailed off to Oz; however, there is a new patch (can't remember the name of it) out that opens the world up for those of us afflicted with motion sickness and each one lasts 3 days. I was able to ride buses all over these super winding roads in the mountains in Guatemala last year and could even read a map at the same time! And I road a ferry without hanging over the rail! Unheard of in my past. So, YAY, keep building Laika!:)

Ohh, I get extremely sea sick as well. I used to go fishing with my father all of the time and he had me take dramamine every time we got to the dock before setting out. It always did the trick just fine for me. Then one day, I thought I was a real man, at probably age 11 or so and figured, you know what? I don't need that dramamine anymore! And oh boy did I get scared of ever going back out on the ocean again due to a 24 hour fishing trip where I spent 22 of those hours dry heaving and spinning in the cabin, it was miserable!
I also am unable to read while in a car or an airplane, or even a train also. Which really has always kind of sucked because any time I've been stuck traveling I've always wanted to conquer a book along the way. :(

One thing I loved so much about when I used to go out salt water fishing with my father, was when we would get home at night, totally spent from cooking in the sun, staying up long & being on the ocean, was the SEA LEGS. I remember going to lay down and shutting my eyes and it would feel as though I was swirling all throughout my room in the dark. Such a unique and amazing sensation.

I love going out fishing too but haven't had the chance any time lately sadly enough. Ive never had to take Dramamine thankfully and have never gotten nauseous even when the boat was stopped and it was rocking back and forth. When you can't see land that is when they say you get sea sick. The sea legs are freaky and Ive nearly fallen on my arse on a few occasions after getting off the boat and onto the dock. For a few minutes it feels like trying to walk after drinking about a 40ozer of rum.

Funny that you mention not being able to read in a car because I'm the same way. For some reason reading in a car makes me feel sick and so do drivers that go hard on the peddle and brake. I don't get sea sick but when I'm in with certain drivers it's gravol to the rescue :\

Hey desmond, welcome to The Dark Side :) <3
Sorry to hear your dad is being annoying....parents 8) Can't live with them, can't live without them ;)
Good luck with the move, I hope your new place is awesome! Are you moving in with someone else?
Oh and feel free to bitch away in this thread! We all have a good bitch every now and then ;)

Take care <3

thanks, been living in the same shitty apartment for over 7 years or something. No Im not moving with somebody else. Now that you mention it, a friend of mine has become my live-in. Ive become pretty tired of him as well cause he sleeps all day long and doesnt say very much about himself. He is also a wimpy guy(too much like a woman) and you kind of become like the people you hang out with but we are far from eachother when it comes to interests(except drinking, joking, playing videogames etc).

Ive texted a friend or whatever Im supposed to call her and I think she can probably help me out on what I should do(she does these kinds of "things"). I just dont feel like a grown-up and my dad is an annoying workaholic and you cant help being affected by the people who are around you(anyone here heard of mirror-neurons?). He displays too much negativity and too few positively rewarding comments(this concept Ive learned through reading about Behaviourism).

on something else, anyone here into Starcraft 2? Just started playing recently, pretty fun. Im thinking of going to the library soon, get some rest from my dad and my live-in.

Desmond, welcome to TDS! I had to do that whole cleaning a hoard when I moved out of my boyfriends mothers old house. That was a nightmare and a half. I feel your pain x.x You have to be excited about getting your own place though right? That day can't come soon enough I bet.
Thanks :)
Actually this is my second, no its the third apartment Ive had in my life(I actually moved out when I was 15-16 when I went to high school, not sure if thats the right name cause its called something else in swedish) so the next one becomes my fourth. Shit, now Im feeling old(good thing maybe?):D. This is whats stressing me, Im getting older but I aint going in the direction of life I want to(I want to realize at least some of my dreams).

Desmond, my son left at 18 to go to University then came home at 20 due to financial hardship (on both our parts). It was good for him to go when he did--it broke the parent/child dynamic--but it has been great to have him back as a full fledged adult. His Dad and he and I all contribute like 3 adults sharing cooking, chores, etc. It's great but I don't think it would have been like this without the break. Good luck with your new place--I think that is going to feel great.:)
Thanks :)
Yeah, I also want to become a full-fledged adult.

I defintively need a huge break from my dad and my usual social network(thats not very exciting).

Man all this talk about sailing, maybe I should do something like that? Nah its probably boring as hell nowadays, its not like when my dad was a sailor(thats how he met my mom and my siblings in the phillipines). I bet its like signing papers, text-messaging, calling around and nothing like the good ol days(like I like to imagine it was, sounds like it from what Ive heard and read from my dad).

=D thanks guise!!! <3

desmond, I've never been on a boat. Sailing as in a sailboat or sailing as in a sailor on a fishing/ship boat?

mucho congrats to stardust and RedLeader. great picks for TDS! :) <3

he was on some kind of shipping-ship(wow that doesnt sound right in my head hehe). Delivering stuff to countries. He was in Vietnam(not murdering people) when it was war down there, he didnt see people get killed but he heard them. Oh yeah he was the cleaning-man on the ship, apparently every time they went to harbour in the countries they went they got hookers and got drunk in the bars. My dad almost got caught buying porn-magazines(couldve been sent to jail in that country) one time. Lots of adventures back then for him.

Now he chops wood on the countryside and worries about his retirement.

yes, been in the "fitness"-game for 8 years now. I dont love it any longer unfortunately(then I got into drinking and pills like a year ago..) but Im trying my best.

^^Trip, I didn't know you were going to Europe--how fantastic! I have not been there in over 40 years and I can't imagine how much it must have changed but I would love to travel there again someday. (I still have my sights set on South America though for my first priority.) Will you travel with a netbook or anything or will we have to wait til you return to hear all about it?

On the subject of gyms.....I have been going to the gym again after stupidly paying my monthly fee for over a year and never going. It feels sooooooo good! I do weights, then 30 minutes of cardio and then my reward: the pool! I do laps and then the last thing I do is just float with my eyes closed, completely relaxed for about 5 minutes. It is pure heaven. I still have a hard time convincing myself to get there but each time I do I am reminded how good it feels when you are done.

Have a great day everybody!<3

40 years is a very long time. I'm sure it would have changed a lot, but it probably would have been cooler to see how it was back in those days :)
My girlfriend said I can take her little notebook, so I can connect with her & my family on Skype :) and, of course, keep tds updated with my travels :)

@Laika - :)
