How did Alexander Shulgin get his DEA License?

Nichols has said he had three grad students interested in psychedelics coming from a "bluelightish perspective" (my words, not his, i dont remember his) and none of them really worked out in his lab. The interview is on the heffter website.

Do you have the link? I can't find it. And whats a bluelightish perspective, like Shulgins approach? If so how did he know, i doubt i'd mention anything other than the potential in psychotherapy, maybe say i'd tried mushrooms/lsd but certainly not reel off a list of rc's!

And if you're interested in the area anyway, even if not working on psychedelics, its probably more likely to work out.

Edit: Maybe a better way of putting it - I can see how coming straight from a degree with hopes of doing Shulgin style research into that environment (how i imagine it anyway) would be frustrating.

Pretty much you have to do years of quality research into a field that tangents an illegal drug, suppose... migraines, chronic pain, addiction, or PTSD to name a few off the top of my head. Then you have to give some extremely valid reason to actually need to deal with the drug or creating analogs, think "well ketamine activates mTOR in depression, lets tweak the structure so we can only get that effect". Then you have to apply for your licence(s) having met the regional guidelines for what you need to have as far as facilities go.

It's not gonna be any different than reasonably pure MDMA made by anybody else. 99% is 99%. it's not like shulgin had tricks in his bag to make MDMA something that it wasn't, MDMA is MDMA.

SHIT just imagine the price of a gram of shulgin molly (if you could verify thatng it was actually made by him). I'm not saying it would be any better than any other 99% pure MDMA, but it would be like the psychonauts ultimate collectors item (any compound made by shulgin really).
