Unfortunately, I think the second season will find it difficult to tread the line between villainy and tragedy that Theon does even in Clash of Kings; it's too easy to make him look like an out-and-out jerk (see Denethor in ROTK). Methinks that when the DwD season arrives they'll either pick a different actor (makeup would be too distracting), or just gloss over the more lurid aspects altogether and keep the devil they know (more likely IMO, despite Escher's misgivings).

no shadow birthing. i guess the gifs misled me. Melisandre's poison drinking was so underwhelming, i thought it robbed some of the power from it. i was supposed to be awestruck, i was supposed to be impressed, afraid, excited! instead it just felt lame.

i guess that's a lot to bitch about but what can you say? my standards for this show are incredibly high. otherwise it was a good episode. things i really liked about it:

Robb Stark's speech to Jamie Lannister. I got chills! His face acting skills! The sneer at the corner of his mouth, the tightening grip around the fur of his direwolf, all of it! So charged and electric and badass! Badass is not a term I give Robb Stark, but he deserved it for that. What a great scene! I'd follow that man.

The introduction of Stannis and Davos. I already posted the gif set from it but that was a fantastic scene. Davos is going to be great.

Tyrion was great all this episode, and so was Cersei.

I don't know if it's because I really don't remember a lot from book 2 or what, but I was kinda sorta disappointed. No action. I know what happens in book 2 (a few things), but the part with the drink and Melissandre (if I remember correctly) went a little differently in the book.

I know book 2 is action packed, so I think I was expecting something more, but he rambles on in some parts of the book, and I know he needs to lead in like he does in the book. The part with Stannis was just the prologue, if I remember correctly.
