Dark Side is my favorite forum, with my favorite posters, and my favorite mods, so I guess I'll play the photo thread. Today we went to Olvera Street and Chinatown with our granddaughter.

^She is pure awesomeness.
I bought a fun little lighter, and several pair of chopsticks for my hair. Yes, for my hair. I have a huge ocean of mostly out of control hair on my head, and the only way I can keep it up is by twisting it into a bun and putting chopsticks through the bun to hold everything together. Here is a picture of me, not from today, but just to give you an idea of the situation with my hair. This is a good hair day picture. I have four different frizz-stopping products in.

Ugly-- great photos!

Have you ever tried dreading your hair? I know that it sounds far out, but hair like that would dread easily, and the colour would just look great!

;)

Your granddaughter is such a little cutie =D <3

Yes, she is. I can't even compare her to anything I've ever seen or known before she came. I adore her.

I'm getting another grandSON in September. I already adore him too.

I think it's almost magical being a grandma.

I love dreads. Right now I have a few reservations about having them. For one thing, when I see a white person with dreads, I think to myself You are trying too hard with those dreads, white bread.

As soon as put them in, the dreads bring attention, and I sense that some of it is what I just wrote above.
For another thing, I have been looking for a job and this market is shit. I am afraid that someone might interview me and all the while be thinking to themselves You are trying too hard with those dreads, white bread.

So I wear my hair in a bun. There are no amount of bobby pins that will hold my hair in a bun. I have broken a ridiculous number of hair combs, claws, and clamps trying to secure a bun. In warm weather the back of my neck gets SO damn hot, I freak out, and when I was teaching I just frantically whipped all my hair up and around, so I found myself at the board with one hand just holding up the bun so I wouldn't have a heat stroke...and I grabbed a pencil, sharpened it, and shoved it through and it held, so I started using a couple chop sticks.

ugly, your hair is exactly like mine. I STILL after 22 years cannot find a "natural" look for it. One day I think I'm gonna have to man up (woman up?) and just chop it all off and rock the boy haircut. I had a friend who used one of those cheap like sunsilk de frizzers and it worked amazingly for her. I was like what!? How is that possible. I've tried everything in the book and it's just not happening.

And Nurse Bloop, hell yes I will get in on the positive vibe raffle. My guess is 20. I feel like we're on the price is right. 22 and 1 month. Like how one person does $500 and then the next one does $501. But regardless, rockin pics <3. I'm glad you decided to join in. <3<3

This is me in 77. It was an acceptable style to wear an "afro" if you'll pardon the expression. (There were not any Black kids at my school. I grew up with the Jackson 5 anyway.)

I wore an "afro pick" in my hair every day but the more I comb my hair the frizzier it gets so the pick was mostly to bother my father, I guess. If I want to, I can cut my hair and wear it like that again. However, I ALWAYS wanted long, Marsha Brady hair. I used to just dream about having long straight hair. I thought my world would be so perfect if I had long straight hair. 8)

I stopped cutting my hair in 1986. I decided to see what would happen. For about 5 years I looked like such a freak, I can't even explain it. The products then weren't strong enough, and as my hair grew longer I tried to brush it but again, the more I brush it, the more it frizzes. Once it all got to about my shoulders I could at least wear it in a french braid. I had it straightened a few times but humidity or rain and my hair got bigger. I won't even post a picture of how big my "afro" got after 1986 but I had hair out to there and around the corner and down the street..... frizziest largest red afro in the world... like the huge afro wigs I've seen Erikah Badu wear.

I'm never cutting it again. I don't get it trimmed. (Don't say anything about split ends. I've heard all that for decades and in my case, split ends are afraid of my hair.) I like long hair on men and women. I am going to see how long mine will get before I die.

Mods I am SO sorry if I've gone off the rails with the topic. Should I have sent this in a pm?

OKAY badfish...

like anyone can see your 'do in that picture.

come on.

ugly, that picture is fantastic. The expression is golden too, so proper :P. That is a bold move doing the fro with pick included lol! I've always wanted the straight hair too. Lucky devils with their recessive straight hair gene. At least when you were rockin the fro it was in style? Didn't the 80's promote the big hair too? These days it's all about refined curls or straight hair. Refined curled are easy and quick to make with a curling iron if your hair is naturally straight...not so much if it's already curly.

badfish, you have a great smile. What is your nationality btw?

A white american who descended from German Jews :D And thank you!

@ugly You shoulda see my 'do when you had the chance!

@badfish HOW can I see your 'do if you don't show it to me? This is the picture thread, so upload those mofos.

@stardust, thank you truly for writing so kindly towards me. I'm accustom to quite the opposite on BL. In the 80s hair got crispy. Bangs 2 feet high 2 feet wide, teased and hair sprayed to heaven. I couldn't pull that off. My hair does not have bangs, I mean, I've never had bangs ever. This hair won't do that. :p

That really sucks if you've had a bad experience elsewhere on the site. You should come around here more often we could use some more personalities around the place :P.

And I just actually LOLd at the hair got crispy comment. It was totally crispy very good imagery. Did you ever notice on mixed breed dogs that their hair sometimes goes in all different directions. Like they're two breeds have conflicting hair styles. I think that's what happened to me. Mixed breed = bad hair.

Badfish, I love them. You got a good heart. You can totally see through your pics you're an awesome dood. <3 I gotta admit though I think I like the longer hair. It fits you really well.
