Hm. The reaction to this thread was stronger than I expected.
First, thanks k20 for that video, I got a good laugh out of that.
Now, I wasn't seriously suggesting that one of us go and actually feed LSD to a spider. None of us would be able to anyway, since it's a matter of nanograms or even picograms on that scale, not micrograms.
And I definitely wasn't suggesting giving LSD to your cat or dog... Jesus... and neither was LimitBreaker.
Perhaps this should have gone in a joke threads section. But I was also legitimately interested. Spiderwebs are very intricate designs, kind of like fractals, and it's amazing that such small creatures know how to weave such beautiful patterns. One has to wonder at what it's like for them, their state of mind in constructing the web. When I saw the caffeinated web, I was doubly intrigued. So naturally the question would follow, has anyone ever used a different substance on a spider?
The answer is yes, they have, as I've gone ahead and looked it up, but considering the reaction to this thread, maybe I shouldn't post that blatant animal abuse.
Is giving drugs to spiders abuse? Yes, but so is every experiment thing humans do with them, or to rats, often to much worse extents. I was approaching this from a position of vicarious curiosity. I'm not suggesting feeding your pet psychedelics and I agree that anyone who would should not have a pet, or psychedelics for that matter. However, this thread caused far more upset than intended, so to the one(s) who reported it, sure, perhaps it should be locked.
