I dont mind taking e recreationally every couple of months but I have noticed that I will get sleep paralysis around 2-3 days later. I'm not going to lie, it's the scariest thing of all time.

I seen a monster once who jumped on me & tried to strangle me to death. Sounds funny? Yes. Believe me I'd rather take a bullet.

Question is, how do I prevent sleep paralysis & what are the best methods of dealing with it? I ONLY get it after a night on ecstasy.

never had sleep paralysis from MD myself but i have had sleep paralysis, and it's the scariest fucking thing. for some reason it's just scary, even if there's nothing to actually scare you you're scared shitless. damn it's scary.

i don't even have any advice mate all i can say is that sucks and im sorry. im sure someone will chime in with something useful.

Chesh, I couldn't agree more. Makes me think about stopping altogether but I love my EDM.

The only scarier thing was having a brain zap once. And even then I'm not sure if it was scarier.

Elf_Spice, thanks for the advice, I will look into this.

I've had sleep paralysis twice in the last couple months... once was last night... I didn't even think about e causing it until now. Interesting... and yeah, it is scary as FUCK! I had a dream this girl drugged me and was going to murder me and I couldn't move because I was drugged lol

How often do you take mdma?
How pure is your mdma, i assume you are testing it yes?

Also what kind of doses are you taking?

Lastly, as mentioned above, anti-oxidants should help, Green tea (L-Theanine), Vitamin C.

Omg i have this like twice a month. sleep paralysis is scary. Once it comes on i try and shake my body real fast and sometimes that avoids it... Sometimes its just too strong. I cant move, i can barely move my finger tips. And when it comes on the feeling isnt that scary once you're used to it but OMG you are in complete terror. Looming death terror. It so scary i cant even describe it... And sometimes when i am in sleep paralysis i am half way dreaming... in the so called dream i am able to move my body when i am in sleep paralysis. I dont know what causes this but damn is it scary as hell.

If you find yourself experiencing sleep paralysis, and you want to get out of it, focus on wiggling your toes. It takes just a second or two of trying before I snap out of it.

That said, it can also be a lot of fun, and you can easily launch into lucid dreaming from sleep paralysis.

Everyone's different, but benzos before sleep on that second or third day following a roll seem to prevent sleep paralysis for me.

I've had them so much I'm used to them now and can enjoy them. But for the most part... Yea, there scary as shit. And it's all due to the fact that you're just super confused as to while you're laying there with your eyes open and feel paralyzed. That's all there is to it. You're freaking out because you can't move. ANd if you're in a dream still, you might actually see some terrifying shit and that makes it 10 times worse.

I've found the more I learned about them, the more I could control them and the less I would be scared when I had one.

Sleep paralysis and brain zaps are what I experience after mdma use. Taking zoloft cured all that. Slightly milder rolls are the result of zoloft though.

I cant see a chemical reason why mdma would be the cause of this but you're experiencing it so there's obviously something going on... Perhaps your brain has made some kinda psychological connection with sleep paralysis after mdma use... Would have to know exactly how many times this has happened to figure out if it's merely coincidence or not as we all tend to notice patterns in random events... Can't say it's ever happened to me post MDMA use but sleep paralysis is always a welcomed night time guest to me as it is usually a precursor to OBE's for me, or at least incredibly lucid dreaming... I've actually worked on techniques to encourage sleep paralysis... When it hits the trick is to surrender to the flow :)

I have no idea about the relationship between E and sleep paralysis, but wanted to comment about my terrifying experience. The sleep paralysis is bad enough on its own, as anyone who's experienced the anxiety driven panic it can induce will attest to. However, the worst part for me was the anxiety I experienced afterwards.

Growing up, I was frequently engaged in some sort of mental health care. Psychiatrists and therapists continuously, with the occasional stay at an institution, stint in day treatment, or mental health focused alternative school. I am insecure about my sanity. After my sleep paralysis experience, having little knowledge about sleep paralysis, I worried I was schizophrenic or had some other condition that caused auditory hallucinations. While I was paralyzed, I heard voices telling me various things. After breaking out of it the first time, the stress it caused probably only exacerbated the problem. Every time I went back to sleep that night I experienced it again. After 4 times of hearing terrible voices, I decided to avoid going back to sleep.

The next morning I was an anxious mess. I was seriously trying to envision how my life would change if I heard voices, and the burden that would put on those around me. This was much more unpleasant than the experience itself.

i have had sleep paralysis a fair few times , until my last 2 times , it was extremely scary and fucked up , then in the last two times i was just aware of what was going on and sat it out in a fucked up state , with my last one i sat there moving my hand but i couldnt see my hand moving i was like wtf ? i could feel it moving though , then when i woke my hand had moved .

i have been told by someone that in this state even though it is scary , people with sleep paralysis are 'lucky' !! because if u control urself and tell ur mind to literally go out of ur body and fly through the wall it happens . i havent been lucky enough to get sleep paralysis again since i found this out and am now into lucid dreaming , the log to this out of body experience makes sense to me , because i was able to move my hand but my mind was still in a dream state , so it was disconnected with my body , so people next time u get sleep paralysis please try this and tell me how it goes ! i was told this information by someone on this website .

I agree with you. Sleep paralysis has given me many interesting semi psychedelic and lucid dreaming while awake experiences when I chose not to panic and went with the flow instead.

MDMA drastically messes with not only serotonin levels themselves, but the entire reuptake system, for a prolonged period of time (a month or more). The entire brain's network of serotonin and reuptake is directly related to sleeping and hunger along with mood/emotion.

Heck when I withdraw from cannabis I get these recurring dream about being in earthquakes, airplane crashes, and tornadoes. I wake up in cold sweats with a racing heartbeat. Definitely scary although I've done a lot of MDMA and never got any sleep paralysis. Everyone's brain ticks differently though and I could see how MDMA could affect sleep patterns if it affects serotonin.

Sleep paralysis is horrible, I only usually get it when coming out of nightmares abruptly, it slightly blurs the line between reality and the dream for a while, until I start laughing at how stupid the nightmare was. Noticed it during a short period of weekly MDMA use :)

Sleep paralysis is some weird shit lol. After reading about it I figured I had an accidental OBE once lol. I was trying to walk around in my room but everything looked weird and I was "floating" then I got a shock and couldnt move and shit.. Pretty scary but very interesting

Yeah i do that too. It happened again last night. Once it comes on its instant terror. I heard a dog crying then i heard " please hang up and wait 10 seconds" It freaked me the fuck out. It only lasted 30 seconds. When it comes on everything goes dead. No motor skills or anything. My head just falls over. Some times i can rapidly shake myself out of it.. Scary stuff

Well I definitely agree with you but i would like to know how frequently he does it ... With regular use it could easily happen .. But with less frequent use (say 1-2 times a year) it doesn't seem as quite as likely to have such a terrifying side effect .. Then again .. Everyone's different like you said and perhaps this is happening to more people than I would have guessed

A little OT but anyway - after getting on md I sleep better for 2 or 3 nights, don't know if it's placebo/physical exhaustion or what, but I feel more physically and mentally relaxed, less anxious/OCD and I sometimes sleep 6hours+ without waking up, usually I struggle to fall asleep and wake up every 2 or 3 hours. Insomnia is very frustrating.. such a vicious cycle
