Open Discussion [MEGA] Mobile version of Bluelight?

Bluelight App?

Hello.

Sorry if this has already been asked a thousand times. I did try to search for it.

I want to know if there's an app that can be used for bluelight on Android phones.

Thanks.

I've been using the browser that came with my phone. Not sure what it is. The resolution of the forum is far too big to fit on the screen. Also trying to limit bandwith. There isn't anything missing from bluelight, I just wanted to know if there was a compatible version of the forum for smart phones - so I don't have to scroll up/ down/ left/ right all the time and use up unnecessary bandwith. If there isn't a bluelight app, is there a forum app that can be used to access bluelight?

I've searched far and wide for something like this but I don't think that there is one. It would be nice if BL added the Tapatalk plugin but from what I have read I don't see it happening..

If you have an Android smartphone, best bet is to download the Dolphin HD browser, it works well with BL.

why not use one of the four browsers i suggested? with the exeception of chrome, i have used them all to browse BL and other forums without a problem.

As I said, I will do that for the time being. An app would be better, though. Designing one for multi-forum use would be quite difficult; desigining one specifically for this site should be relatively easy. Having said that, if nobody thinks I should bother then I won't. I need permission, support from staff/mods, a couple of dozen volunteer beta-testers and (ideally) some co-programmers. Also, an app would probably increase traffic on the site; I'm not sure if that's an issue in terms of server capacity.

Are you serious? It seems like a bold commitment for someone who has just joined the site (unless you're a returning member)?

My response would be the same as that given to previous posters who offered to develop a mobile application: "great, glad to see members wanting to get involved independently".

I'm all for encouraging people to develop the site, so let us know how it goes.

I'd like to elaborate more, but now probably isn't the right time.

I may well merge this thread into the mobile megathread at a later date.

It isn't as much as a commitment as you would think. I intend to "borrow" large chunks of code from already existing forum-based applications and simplify/ tweak them. I've created much more complicated apps in the past from scratch. I'm already familiar with the language. I don't think it will take up very much of my time. I'm trying to quit drugs at the moment which means I need to avoid most of my friends and keep myself otherwise occupied. A project like this would help. Having said all that, I need to determine the scale of the mountain before I attempt to climb it. Perhaps the "previous posters" you mentioned might be inclined to help me once I get the ball rolling. Do you remember who they were?

You said earlier that there is a mobile version of the site, yet to be implemented. Does that mean there are people working on it? If so, who? If not, maybe it would be a better idea for me to start with that, and get it up and running, before moving on to the app. (Depends on how close it is to completion.)

Oh, and - yeah - merge to your hearts content.

There is a mobile version ready to be tested, but the Admin group does not possess the necessary permissions to make it active.

We're waiting for the site owners to expedite this.

+1 for the mobile version, I have a pretty decent sized phone (galaxy s2) with dolphin but I wouldn't use it for browsing the forums. XDA made a great jobs with an app that basically replaces the forum while providing the same functionality (http://forum.xda-developers.com), but obviously they have an arsenal of dedicated developers on there..
