I am in need of some help here...

have been on Alesse for about 5 months...it made me feel pretty strange for the first month while on it.
-my period was only synched up to the pills for about 3 months
-for the past two months i've gotten it twice a month, it feels like one of them is my 'natural period' (heavier) and the other is my 'alesse period' (lighter)
-i got PMS symptoms from both so I could not deal with it any longer, got off the pill about....10 days ago. I am supposed to have been taking my pills for the past 3 days, and i've been experiencing some horrible side effects
-major mood swings, I am literally in tears one second, and irritated the next...extremely antisocial...
-very fatigued constantly
-hairloss
-vision change....almost feels like im in a period of derealization. Similar to when I first began taking it but not to this
-blurred vision, water retention in eyes?

All the stories ive seen about coming off the pill are mostly positive, with quite the opposite side effects that I'm experiencing. So i dont really know what's going on. thanks for reading

It seems like this was not the correct Pill for you. There are hundreds of brands of hormonal birth control, and plenty more non-hormonal methods, so it can take a while to find the right one for you.

Was this your first experience with hormonal birth control or did you switch to this from something else?

Have you talked to your doctor about the symptoms you're experiencing or about switching to another Pill with different hormone levels?

I take a hormonal pill with very, very low doses of hormones and I have never experienced any problems. My sister takes a different pill with about 3X as many hormones as mine, and she likes it as well. Different strokes for different folks.

My best advice would be give your body some time to adjust, and make an appointment with your doctor if symptoms grow worse or more concerning. Hope this helps <3

Yes this was my first experience with the pill.
I have found out that Alesse is a particularly high in progresterone pill...which explains my side effects. I think a pill with very low doses of hormones would work better for my body because I find that I'm particularly sensitive to drugs, be it recreational / medical.

Thanks for replying though, I am going to wait a couple more days and if the symtoms don't subside i'll go to my GP.
I don't think the pill is a suitable method of birth control for me anyways, I'll stick with condoms I suppose.

Alesse was my first birth control pill. I was on it for a year. I gained a lot of weight (it made me hungrier I think, or at least craving bad foods). I had crazy mood swings as well. I cried for no reason just randomly. I was even MORE sensitive the week before my period, I would cry like every day. I didn't want to hang out with people, ever.

So after a year of that (ugh), I talked to my doctor and he switched me to Tri-cyclen Lo. It basically has the lowest amount of hormones in it but it is as effective as every other good birth control pill. I still get PMS the week before my time of month (I'm just grumpier than normal that time). I have lost some weight. I am not moody 24/7. I guess I've been on Tri-cyclen Lo for maybe 2 or 3 years and oh wow, I'm soooo glad I switched!

I use the pill and condoms, I like to be double safe. But anyway, some birth control pill brands aren't for everyone. You're supposed to try them for three months and, if you're moody/unhappy after that, then go back to your doctor. It's been five months for you, go back to him and see if he can get you on something else
:)

I don't know what my birthcontrol is on but it has a neutral amount of both hormones, and i've never had a problem with it. it takes about 3 months of being on the pill for your body to get on a regular note again and once you get off of it its another three months before you regulate again. only side effects should be maybe a bit more spice on the PMS and longer periods.
talk to your doctor about a pill that will be fit for you. i just went to my town clinic "T.H.E Center" they help a lot there, see if you have one in your area.

Also, i have a question. Anybody here who has been on the pill and off the pill: How is your sex drive on the pill? I've been on the pill for 4 years now and i've noticed my sex drive not be as up since ive started. i'm in a relationship and im very attracted to my love but i can't get the ummf in my sex drive. have any of you noticed this? i've heard some people get hornier on the pill?

Ok so since we are on the topic of birth control I started the pill last month because I just had a baby and my periods were super bad I was supposed to start my next pack last sunday but I couldn't fill it untill today how many do I take where should I start? ahh what do I do?

Lightweight - the information leaflet in your birthcontrol can tell you but, generally, you can only take two tablets at once and still be covered. I would definitely say that if you've missed 4 or 5 active tablets, then you should just not take any this month, use alternative contraception and start the next pack on the correct day.

This is correct. Generally, you are not supposed to take more than 2 pills at once, and it doesn't apply at the start of a pack. The first pill in a pack is the most important one to take on time because it bumps up your body's level of hormones and starts the process of not allowing an egg to be released that month. I would save the pack you currently have and just use a different method of contraception until you get your period and start over next month, on time.

Oats - I have been on BC for about 4 years as well and am in a committed relationship too. I find that my sex drive definitely dips at times, and there are weeks where sex is of no interest to me at all. Once I get through that period, sex is awesome again and it's all I want to do. Just wait it out and explain to your partner that it's just a side effect of BC and not a deeper emotional issue with him.

If I were you I would look into the IUD. It is a Intrauterine Device they implant into your uterus, there is a hormonal one(Mirena) that lasts 5yrs and a non hormonal(Paragard) one that lasts 10yrs. I personally have had the Mirena for going on one year and I love it. I have not had any weird side effects from it except my period has just about vanished and I do get next to excruciating cramps on an occasion. But its great BC that you never have to think about or worry about forgetting to take it and it lasts 5 to 10 years! If you are complaining about BC side effects then go for the non hormonal IUD. I personally recommend the hormonal Mirena because I have it and find it great. Hope this helped and if you have any questions about the IUD feel free to message me or just ask. :)
