Okay, well my son (teenager) is usually a pretty lazy kid. Dirty room, hates doing chores, generally is just quite lazy.

Well last weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to see that he had cleaned his room. He cleaned it very well, and actually removed all the furniture in order to clean every corner and inch of the room, and actually washed the walls.

I thought that maybe he had just gotten some motivation to finally sleep in a nice, tidy environment. I did notice he was short of jittery, but I thought nothing of it, thinking maybe he'd had a few energy drinks.

Well during the week when he had to do his weekly chores, that he usually would just not do or continuously post-pone, he suddenly did them right on time, all in a few hours, hurrily running around the house at hyper-speed getting everything done that he had to. He wasn't hungry at dinner time and said his stomach had been bothering him.

So next week we are having company, and the house is usually quite untidy through the winter, and I usually end up doing spring cleaning.

Oddly enough, he actually approached me asking if he could clean up the house so it would be nice and tidy for company. (for some cash of course)

I was expecting him to do his usually "cleaning". AKA, clean what is visible, but leave every stone UNTURNED so their is just junk hidden away in crevesses or drawers or under carpets. And dust and crap everywhere, not a thorough cleaning. You know how kids can clean (well teenagers).

So he started with the basement (it's a furbished basement, so it's got flooring and theirs a area down their where the kids hang out with their friends and play x box, and also the laundry room, so generally it tends to get quite dirty down their.

Well I come down to check on him, and what I saw blew my mind. He has literally torn the place apart, removed all the furniture, into the middle of the rooms and was washing the walls, dusting behind things that hadn't been cleaned behind in years, took my plant stand that I use for gardening during the winter that had gotten very messy and full of leaves and had removed everything, completely washed it down so it looked like new. Basically he ripped the whole place apart to clean every single corner, and then put everything back. He cleaned for 8 hours straight, and when he was finished the place was cleaner than I have ever seen it. Spotless.

I also noticed he was very jittery again, and was chewing on a cap of a water bottle or something very aggressively the whole time. And when he wasn't, I noticed he was sort of moving his jaw around and licking his lips kind of compulsively, stuff I don't normally seem him do. He also drank like 8 bottles of water, which i also though was unusual.

I haven't really seen him drinking any ridiculous amount of energy drinks or caffeine, so I'm wondering if the behaviour might be the result of a drug of some sort. Maybe I'm just over thinking this and he was just so jittery because of how long he'd been cleaning, I don't know.

But does this behavior sound weird to any of you, does it sound like drug use of any sort?

It sounds like amphetamine use. There are prescription forms of this (adderall, Dexedrine, etc) that are popular with high school seniors and college students, and then there is methamphetamine, which is a common 'street drug' in some areas. Sometimes opiates have made me clean, but this sounds more like amphetamine because you were saying he was chewing on a cap a lot, and amphetamines make you bite down and grind your teeth, so seems to fit the description here. Also I have never cleaned without being told on opiates, but if I was told to do so at work, I would clean the hell out of anything. With amphetamines, your mind needs to fixate on something, which is why some people will clean a lot.

With amphetamines the pupils dilate so will be a lot bigger, whereas opiates cause them to constrict, making them 'pinned' (slang for looking like pin points).

You can buy drug testing kits at the pharmacy, but would just have to make sure they test for amphetamine, cocaine, and opiates. Cocaine can make people clean, but it lasts way shorter than amphetamines, so seems less likely in this case. If you are going to test him, you would have to do it the day of or the day after you see him acting like this, because some of those drugs are only detected for 1-3 days.

oh yeah like tommy mentioned.. all the pharmaceuticals that are usually used for add and adhd make people do things like that also.. but i read the whole post and if it comes up negative on a drug test for anything, i highly suggest getting him to a psychiatrist because he may be bipolar (i am) and the faster you get it treated the less trouble it causes to the persons life.

Your son probably got ahold of some Adderall. Many kids are prescribed adderall for ADHD, so it tends to make its way around the school. It's the most commonly used and abused prescription drug among teenagers thanks to clueless, ignorant parents and psychiatrists. It is also the sole reason many college students are able to keep up with their workload.
If your son is using Adderal, you should be worried but not scared. Most kids I knew (myself included) will experiment with this drug until the negative effects begin to outweigh the high and benefits.
I should stress that this drug is not as "hard" as most street drugs, and is not viewed as such by the younger generations. Your son may not even think of this as "drug use."
I'd attempt to give you some advice on how to deal with this or how to talk to him (he seems like a good guy), but I'm not a parent.

What about bath salts and other "legal" highs? I don't know much about them but I've read that they mimic cocaine and meth.

There's also phentermine (a C-IV (schedule IV) diet pill that is similar to meth...hell look at the universal ID name for it: 2-methyl-1-phenylpropan-2-amine...now look at meth's: N-methyl-1-phenylpropan-2-amine)...which I just snorted 2...make that 3 of...they look like little robin eggs...

^lol well you had us going for a sec, well played.

But hopefully you didn't just fuck over some poor kid whose mom now thinks your account is his. She should read your last post, hopefully.

Your son is probably on Adderall, not meth..
I wouldn't be too worried about it (hey, if it helps him get stuff done, the adderall may actually be helping an unknown case of ADHD)
Unless he starts sleeping for 14 hours a day or is lashing out at you for no reason, I wouldn't be too worried. Your kid is going to experiment with drugs and there is very little you can do to stop him, just watch out for blatant warning signs in case his "experimentation" turns in to "addiction"

Someone else also brought this up, but when I take Opiates I can clean like crazy. I wouldn't automatically say it's meth, or adderall (sp?).

YOU ASSHOLES this is my mom that posted this and now she thinks im addicted to meth!

Okay, I am virtually certain this is not my son because he has been passed out on the couch for the last few hours, no where near a computer.

I did some research (google) on methamphetamine, and how dangerous it is etc. I checked the symptoms of use, and I know his teeth are fine (something about rotting teeth caused by meth mouth) but some of the other symptoms sort of matched up for this. The more I read about the drug, the more mortified I was becoming. I was kicking myself in the head, how the hell could I miss all the signs, he must have been using cocaine, or crack or heroin and marijuana for him to have lead himself up to METH, which is apparently one of the single most dangerous and life destroying drugs out their.

So about 15 minutes ago I decided to go wake him up on the couch and inquire if he was on any drugs. He denied and I of course got very upset and asked him if he has been using "meth". He was stunned at first but then sorta grinned and said of course not but his reaction made me feel like he was hiding something.

I gave him the ultimatum of kicking him out of the house (I may have been a bit harsh, but I truly never thought my son would be using drugs, let alone the worst drug that exists) or him taking a drug test, and if he is positive for any drugs I'd send him away to a rehab.

He then finally fest up and admitted he was using "study pills" that his friend gave him to try. I assumed this was bullshit at first but he told me he'd go and get the ones he had left. So I follow him to his room and he pulls out a small baggie of pills, their were 8 left in the baggie.

The pills say, "adderall XR" on the top part, and then "15mg" on the lower part of the pill. The top part is white and the bottom part is a see through blue with some sort of beads inside of it.

He said that his friend gets them as medication apparently, for ADD.

I'd always been a bit wary upon wether or not my son actually had ADD himself, because when he was younger I would get phone calls nearly every single day from teachers or the principle, because he was very very talkative in class and could never sit still and do work. This of course was disturbing the other children. All the teachers actually enjoyed him in their class (so they said), and thought he was quite a bright kid, but they always had trouble with him distracting other because he apparently had no attention span. (although when he sat down to do homework with me at home, and I could control him he could always do the work, and got good marks)

Eventually by the time he got older the problems slowed down, and from what I had read online about ADD meds, and how they can actually end up causing more problems or have a lasting impact on the patients personality, I just didn't want to risk it. I've always been a very drug free person, I rarely drink, have never smoked, and try my absolute best to avoid all pills, even tylenol when I have a head ache.

So are these meds really dangerous? I asked him how much he was taking because I didn't think a approved, legal drug would cause such a massive change in personality, to the point where he was almost being OCD about the cleaning, and the teeth grinding and lick lipping etc.

He said he would take 2, and then maybe a 3rd one later on if he began to feel tired. He promised me he had only used them a few times, for when he wanted to get homework he was behind on done. But that the effects lasted long enough that he felt he had to do something else and decided to clean.

So anyways, should this be a major concern for me? Are these pills abuseable and addictive, and should I have to send him to rehab for this?

^ Adderall is a pretty common drug as far as prescriptions go. It's amphetamine-- a basic speed pill. It may or may not be problematic use. Many of us have used it here and there, for studying, to clean, etc, without any issues. Some people however do use it to excess.

I'd keep an eye out for this behavior you noted (grinding teeth and jittery behavior are a dead giveaway) and note if it becomes too frequent. As mentioned earlier in the thread, people are going to experiment. I'd try to convey to him to be responsible with his drug use as it is undoubtedly a powerful drug and does have side effects.

Addiction potential is a bit lower than with drugs like opiates, in the sense that they are not physically addicting, but they can certainly give a desire to keep using.

I called it

Don't take your son to rehab for using a few adderall, he'll never forgive you for it.
Using adderall isn't that problematic - doctors pretty much give them out to people for the same reasons your kid was taking it for (cleaning, doing homework, studying, etc)

Like I said a few posts ago, just keep an eye on him. If he starts sleeping 14 hours a day, or lashing out at you for no reason, then you have a problem.

Methamphetaime...regular amphetamines....mdpv( at first if you can handle it)...oxycodone (prefarebly the 30 mg roxicodones).....

Just because he is using stimulants, even meth, does not mean he is using other drugs. Drug use dose not follow any order in terms of substances used, hell the first drug I tried was heroin.

And kicking him out of the house is going to accomplish nothing but creating a barrier between you and him. He would hesitate before telling you anything about his life ever again in fear of you getting mad at him instead of listening.

Also, rehab may not be necessary, and even if it is, it rarely works unless it is the user that decides they want to of their own volition.

There are some dangers associated with amphetamine use, namely cardiovascular problems and emotional/psychological disorders.

But his doses were not large whatsoever. he is dosing 30mg at a time, which is dispensed bit by bit over what i believe to be twelve hours, and sometimes topping it off with another 15mg, for a total of 45mg. To put this in perspective, I would take close to 100mg every 6-8 hours, even though that is with tolerance.

Love him through this, and chalk it up to curiosity. That's a good thing.

I figured somekind of amp then when the op mentioned the bottle cap i thought mdma but then remembered the time i tried doing dishes on mdma lol i thought about doing them and that was as far as i got.
