thought this might be an interesting thread.

Who has used drugs at work and how was it?

For the most part, I have had pretty negative experiences when getting high at work. When I was a young'un and worked at a resturaunt alternating between kitchen hand, dish pig, and service and waitering, I would sometimes get stoned before work. If I was just in the back doing dishes or food prep it was fine as I could tune out and go into my own world. Once I got really high, and got called in to do an evening shift on a friday night. I was too stoned to tell my boss no on the phone. I then had to take orders and serve people. Was really damn confusing, and needless to say I fucked up alot of orders.

When I took a year off from uni and worked as a telemarketer, I once took a whole lot of ritalin that was offered by a work colleague. Once I got high, I really wanted to talk to people on the phone, but sadly no one was interested in talking, and I was calling mostly non-english speaking suburbs in Melbourne, which made it difficult. it was pretty frustrating. Though after work drinks that day was fun.

The only drug I feel I can function well on at work is codeine. Even for my current work which is alot more mentally rigerous, and requires ALOT more responsibility that the previous ones mentioned, I can still function as well as I can normally. That said, I don't make a habit of taking it, and don't dose high, just enough to have a nice background buzz. Alot of the time if I am taking it is because I am sick, and have a headache or cough/sore throat, so in this case I probably perform better than I would if I didn't take it.

How about everyone else? Any funny or interesting experiences? Also, has anyone tried more potent substances like MDMA or LSD and gone to work?

I once went to work after staying up all night doing MDMA. never again:|

Back in my younger days first job I had, I went to work took a pill or two just after I arrived, picking and packing orders, I had a great time doing it, but then I had to go help my boss clear some old boxes from the office and put my phone's music on pinging as, talking heaps to him which i never done, he must have known something was up lol no one is that happy moving boxes, nor did I normally talk to him only when nessecary.

A bit later in the day I started feeling sick, told my boss and they wouldnt let me go home they said "so go chuck up in the toilet and keep working" which made me storm out to never return again.

In another job being a storeman, I always used to have a cone before work, it just made the day go by that much quicker but the boss caught on when a few other work mates started doing it as they wern't as cautious as me and bumped into walls, red eyes ect, so once my boss told me he suspected they were getting high before work I stopped.

Also not really relevant but I realised I lost a really good pill once at work was walking back and forth and after half an hour I found it in its baggy on the floor, and there is like 30 ppl in this warehouse so I could have easily lost it :) was such a relief when I found it.

recently after a big weekend waking up on monday, i knew i would be hardly productive at work, as i was completely broken. I work in call centre doing surveys and stuff. so i bought in some 'ice' and sucked on a few little rocks in my first hour and was so on the ball it was scary... i got the most surveys by alot that day.. did it again the next day.. haven't done it since. Didn;t want to have to get on it to do well at work that would suck big time. At my first job sometimes smoked joints on the way to work when i worked at Safeway, terrible idea.. allways regretted it,first few hours it was cruzy stoned everything going well, then the weed would wear off and you were left in this slugish state serving people, looking at the clock for 3 hours until you can go home... worst ever. Customers would not be happy becausec i was so slow lol. and my boss would say ' oh your in fairy land today'

OK all this was a few years ago when working in the kitchen at Maccas.

I was probably stoned for over half my shifts (i worked their for a few years) My house and a few other raging mates houses were only a 5 min drive so I could have a fat rage and then bail for work.

I remember I had been snorting mephedrone during the day and forgot that I had a shift, made sure to have a line just before I left. that was actually really fun shift.

A few times when I had the sunday 7am shift getting home at like 6:30am from town poppin pills all night then going straight to work. So dryyyyyyyy

Also I kept some acid in their freezer when I had a long shift, haha

Fair few times. Turned up to KFC one sunday morning after candyflipping at a rave, was still tripping slightly and it fucking sucked, kept seeing random faces in the walls and on the ground outside.

Next job was doing sales, turned up to work one night after going hard on the pills and shard, had a twirl before I arrived, rocked up in the middle of a meeting and half the office turned around, saw how scat I was and nearly cracked up. Wasn't a big deal because most of the people there partied, but I started to come down hard about half way through my shift and that got kinda shitty.

Used to love taking opiates at work too, it was such a great way to relax and cruise through the day without a care in the world. A shot when you wake up, a shot during your lunch break and a shot when you get home is the best way to make a perfect day :)

I had a horrible experience working on New Years Day this year after a massive New Years Eve. I'd eaten a ridiculous amount of lollies over 15 hours and had been smoking weed constantly aswell. Time had flown by so quickly I didn't even realise that I wasn't going to be able to sleep before my shift so, in my munted state, I decided to get more fucked up prior to the shift instead of coming down. I took a few more pills, about 10mg of diazapam and 700mg of Lyrica. The entire shift was an utter joke, I was caught half asleep in a theatre (I work in a cinema), making coffees for customers that didn't even exist and even having a full blown conversation with a cardboard cut out of Liam Neeson. Looking back I find the situation funny but realistically I'm damn lucky I wasn't fired and I will certainly never go on a bender before a shift ever again.

I do, however, regularly smoke weed before a shift.

At my first job sometimes smoked joints on the way to work when i worked at Safeway, terrible idea.. allways regretted it,first few hours it was cruzy stoned everything going well, then the weed would wear off and you were left in this slugish state serving people, looking at the clock for 3 hours until you can go home... worst ever.

Thats pretty much my experience of smoking at any job where you can't continue to smoke through the day, time drags SO bad once you hit that sluggish post stoned feeling...

I have used drugs at every job I have ever worked regrettably. Mostly cannabis and methamphetamine and benzo's to a lesser extent, but over the years there have been a number of others, really its a stupid idea because not only are you putting your job at risk but you are essentially wasting drugs. It always felt so wrong smoking shards at work because really by the end of the day I would usually have made fuck all money over what I actually spent on meth.

At my current job I work from home and so I do use drugs a bit when working, in particular I don't feel cannabis affects my work performance adversely. I do have a few drinks towards the end of most shifts but do my best not to get drunk till I have actually knocked off.

LOL at festival fun talking to a cardboard cut out of Liam Neeson, that is some hilarious shit!

I work affected by drugs almost every day, usually scotch or vodka, but usually one or two days a week I'm still high on meth/G etc..

Also when I was on methadone for years I still worked then too. So I guess it's possible to still function ok, but I wonder how much more success I would have if I was more sober.

I used to love getting stoned at school a lot but this did not translate well into work life, and I hate being stoned or on psyches in any work situation, but booze and stims can give me a boost but you have to be damned disciplined with them.

i have a pretty cruisy office job, so i have occasionally had a small toke in the morning, which mellows out to a very manageable after the hour long public transport journey to work. arrive to work relatively straight but just in a good mood. it's something i haven't done in six months at least, but i'm not exactly turning up blazed, just a very subtle buzz.
it made me enjoy the train ride, listening to music and feeling good about heading to work. agree that mild opiate doses can be pretty agreeable at work, but you want to be a fair way off a nod. i have a habit, so i do this every day, but not to the extent that i feel high. just a maintenance dose.
i try to maintain a facade of respectability because of the general perception of drug users in the community, and i would hate to have it interfere with my work - or create the perception that it is doing so. i take my ability to blend into 'straight society' rather seriously, despite being a proud freak. i guess in this day and age you have to be careful to keep your business private when it comes to drugs, so i like to be able to blend in with the crowd.

the first time i went to a doof was quite a few years ago, and i worked in a university library. i went on this big trek out to the party and took a dose of mushrooms. had a wonderful time, tripping and chatting and sitting around a campfire smoking joints.
i knew that i had to work in the morning, but i guess the opportunity arose and i took it.
frankly, i don't know what i was thinking, because i had to be at work at 9.30 in the morning, unlock the building, turn on all the lights, work a full day shelving books and close up again at 5.30 in the evening.
the mushie trip had all but subsided when my friends and i headed back to civilisation, i was dropped off at the university and made my way across campus, swiped my way in to the large library building and proceeded to go around turning on lights and preparing for the place to be filled with students.
it ended up being one of the most relaxed, focused work days i could recall - i was much more at peace than i normally would be on a sleepy saturday morning, and i ended up getting a lot of work done. very little fatigue, not at all scattered.
i did pretty much the same thing another time (with LSD) and it was a trainwreck - i could barely speak and i spent most of the day hiding between the stacks reading a book - but on the tail-end of a mushroom trip i was a perfectly composed worker.

i wouldn't do anything like that any more, and i hate being drug affected (high or coming down) at work. not only because it makes me question my judgement, but because i start worrying that people know - and i start doubting myself because i know - and in the kind of work environment i have (a really great job that i would hate to jeopardise) it just isn't right to turn up mashed. more responsibility now, and more to lose.
maybe that is a lie actually...i do take opiates every day, and while they make me feel good, they hardly get me wasted - they make me normal, and i'd be incapacitated without them.
there are probably heaps of jobs that you can perform adequately in if you are high, but i would rather keep drugs as an amusement rather than something to get me through the day.
hypocritical in light of my opiate habit, but i suppose i am referring to things like amphetamine or even weed. i used to smoke so much pot that doing things (like going to work) straight felt weird, but i've come to realise what a waste of drugs - and what a waste of my potential - that was. rather than battle through a self-inflicted paranoia, awkward clumsiness and brainfog, i can feel confident at work these days that i'm not making a fool of myself or being indiscreet.

10mg oxycodone (no tolerance)
Was interesting, felt relaxed.

20mg methylphenidate

Fucking pumped, sitting down on a chair my legs where just pushing me away from my desk.
Once you get over the rush, intense thought chains.

Some low dose of DXM.
Kept zoning out, wasn't "in" and wasn't taking in any information.
Not good.

Generally most people do stimulants at work, right?
Especiallly with construction.

I'm not counting in Cannabis here, that's just everywhere.

I have tried this a couple of times - a puff or two of meth before work because I was tired. I work in an office job that requires a decent amount of concentration. Never again - it's hard to concentrate when you're rushing. Don't think my colleagues noticed anything, but I must've looked more fidgety than usual and had to ask them to repeat things when I normally wouldn't have.

I've probably spent more days on drugs at work than not. I've done quite a bit of bar work, and taking drugs there is quite commonplace. When I was using ice I'd usually puff before work, and more often than not I was scattered as fuck having not been able to sleep the night before. I used to feel like utter shit rocking up on times like this, but I actually prefered it because I could wear myself out at work and then go home and actually sleep, rather than sitting at home, doing my head in and puffing more.

When I worked at Bubble they turned a blind eye to me racking up lines on the bar!

The first time I did a pill at work was at the fish n chip shop when I was 17, on my school muck up day. Being back in 2004, it was a good pill and I was completely off guts. I racked up line of speed in the toilet to try and give me some focus, but my boss realised I was high as fuck and sent me home. I couldn't have been happier about that, so I trotted across the road to the bottleo for more party supplies, when I realised I'd left my baggie of speed in the toilet :| I felt pretty shameful working back into work, bottle of scotch in hand, to retrieve it =D

I try to avoid having drugs interact with my work.
Y'know what they say, the first sign of a drug problem can be seen in a man's work.
Though I usually only take them to increase my quality of work, or if I'm too tired so I can work (same as last rule), or if I can't be fucked to work and want to talk for some special occasion.

Footscrazy... oh man haha, I couldfn't do that with my personality.

bahahahah!

funny again!

footsy you are making some funny posts recently girl!!!

when i was a massive k-head i used to do bumps of k every hour or so in the toilet, then come back to the office all floaty and stuf fand get back into doing office work stuff like data entry/answerring phone etc etc. Had the sniffles bad too lol.

My old boss didn't seem to mind. I think she used to do drugs in her younger days so she was cool with it.
a few times I even had the nose bleed at work lol!

I whack up all the time at work and uni. I work part time at Woolies (Safeway in some states) mainly stacking shelves and unloading pallets of new stock and I pretty much go into the toilets and whack up before most shifts. I'm an ice user so like it gives me alot of energy to stack shelves when I'm revving off my head at work. The manager does sometimes notice that my performance is abit off when I go to work straight, I'm much more slow in my stacking and less talkative lol.

So if we see a guy with huge dilated pupils dancing with 2 containers of milk to the radio we will know its you! hahhahaha

I used to do pizza delivery. Once or twice I found myself going to work stoned, and I kept forgetting stuff like drinks and salads. I really don't like being stoned when I should be sober. Fuck that was a chilled out job, I want that again.

I can't start my day until my nurse makes me a caffeine laced English Breakfast with one sugar and enough milk that I can drink it straight away without burning my lips.

^ Did you ever get invited in to parties? I think it was someone here who posted they used to do pizza delivery and got invited in to smoke bongs after delivering a pizza.

When I was younger and smoked pot I went to work at a supermarket stoned a couple of times... wasn't really enjoyable but that was around the time I was starting to dislike pot anyway.

Done various jobs on codeine when I had a habit but really I think it's unprofessional to be going to work under the influence... unless you are Mad Men and work with Christina Hendricks.
