I sincerely apologize for bumping an old thread, but anyone here find Gabapentin works as well as Pregablin for fibromyalgia pain? I'm considering switching to it because my insurance company no longer covers Lyrica and I simply cannot afford paying for it (<snip> for a month's supply), however, they do cover Neurontin and its generic versions.

Hi, I created you your own thread in an effort to get you better, more accurate and personalized results.

Good luck!

Everyone is different so it depends on your body chemistry. As someone with Fibromyalgia myself, Gabapentin never helped me. Although you never know what will help you unless you give it a chance. I tried various opiates for a long time and they worked for a while My tolerance became extremely high and needed doses so large it wasn't worth it anymore. Now I'm on Suboxone and muscle relaxants now and it has made me functional. Hope this has helped in some way. If you have any questions about medicines for Fibromyalgia feel to send me a message. I know it's tough living with this illness. I hope you find something that works for you!

My mom has severe fibro, resultin from X-ALD. Anyways Neurontin has helped her to a certain extent. She has to take Tramadol, a muscle relaxer and sometims hydrocodone. So Neurontin alone doesn't work for her. Of course your mileage may vary.
When she has flare ups she still has to go to the ER to get something a lot stronger VIA IV.
Anyway, good luck. Sorry you have fibro, it's a very painful illness.

Have you considered analgetic antidepressants? Amitriptyline or Duloxetine are the first-line treatment for fibromyalgia, nerve pain, neuropathy and chronic pain. They often work better than opioids.

Yes and yes. Amitriptyline worked well, and I would have liked to have stuck with it, but eventually I couldn't tolerate the side effects anymore - mainly the profound sedation, hypotension (especially when trying to stand up I'd feel like fainting and did actually faint a couple of times) and abnormal heart beats. Duloxetine, unfortunately, again - couldn't tolerate the side effects and I got off it after about a 2 weeks.

Keeping my fingers crossed for Gabapentin. Pregablin worked wonders for the muscle aches. It had its side effects as well. The swelling really worried me for example but it was a much more bearable than not being able to stay awake at work.
