OK, i could find no material via search on iv gaba - so i thought id ask you guys - here's my story and im stickin to it:

I found a 45mg rock of cocaine in my room - quickly prepped and shot it, then in a state of total narcomania looked around. I found a bag a friend of mine had left with a 50/50 mix of coke and GABA. he uses it as a cut - now i never advocate cutting drugs - that being said coke is a dirty game. Anyhow i knew it was a bad idea but proceeded to do a shot of that - about 60mg cuz i figured id need more. What happened next is one of the WEIRDEST iv rushes ive ever felt, weird, cold, lung strangulating - i gasped for air figured i was probly gonna die - then it passed. i did three more. Then, disgusted with myself threw the shit away. Now, i KNOW that wasnt the coke, which says to me the GABA was definitely gettin up in the ol brainscape, subsequently my mania was diminished - afterwards sucked less, and as i drank a dose of g i noticed what i can only call a potentiation of the euphoric and stimulating side of G. im gonna take a benzo im a minute with some opiates and hope it does a little more too. Benzo first so i can see how it will act - then opes. Anyhow - as i have a chronic lack of gaba(my assessment) due to long term benzo alcohol use - not habit forming levels (cept booze) but i do 30 days without drugs and im always constantly nervous - and always have been. My question i guess is if anyone knows about the safety of using gaba iv? and if it is safe, could it possibly be an effective way to treat the many people who seem to need CONSTANT GABA agonist supplementation?

And before anyone flames - i know how stupid all this was - i have a problem, i know it, fuck off and lets get down to the science :D

GABA does not pass the blood brain barrier (BBB) - well it shouldn't / doesn't normally, the BBB however is not a perfect defence 100% of time. The result is hugely disproportiationate minor (*variable) effect (if anything) from what are huge gaba supplementation doses.

From personal experience (oral) GABA seems to definitely have some kind of peripheral effect - what I can only really describe as a pseudo-histamine type effect - personally found it very unpleasant.

well, the thing is, this was at most 30 - 40mg of GABA. The effects were DEFENITE and PRONOUNCED and far outlasted the effects of the blow and into several hours of benzo/g use. Not sure exact duration of action but it was MOST definitely a drug hitting my brain. and not coke.

did you search pubmed?

Psychiatry Res. 1986 Oct;19(2):113-7.

Intravenous GABA administration is anxiogenic in man.

Nurnberger JI Jr, Berrettini WH, Simmons-Alling S, Guroff JJ, Gershon ES.

Seven persons (three normal volunteers and four euthymic bipolar patients)
received one to four doses of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) intravenously. All
subjects reported dysphoria, and their mood disturbance scores on the Profile of
Mood States were significantly increased in a dose-related fashion. Placebo
infusions did not produce similar responses. Mood disturbance was accompanied by
a dose-related increase in pulse and blood pressure.

Unless I'm misreading your OP and you're talking about potentiating IV cocaine.

I have had a similar experience dropping a pill of x then doing the sublingual gaba thing. It felt like my throat was closing up and I had to drink something. i think its like the only come I have had that enduced anxiety, well compaired some some very cracked out times.

The euphoric and stimulation I think could be chalked up to the bad experience beforehand, and also that some naturopaths suggest gaba as an aid to depression.

insufflation of GABA

Insufflation of GABA (dosage unknown, but a relatively small amount of pure powder, perhaps a centimeter in diameter) is most certainly active, causing immediate (but thankfully transient) respiratory depression, followed by deep sleep lasting in the range of 3-4 hours, in my experience.

^ All these effects tally with minor / variable CNS penetration (if it was anywhere near complete you would know about, i.e it would be a strong sedative) with added peripheral effects.

I also would not listen to natropaths recommending GABA for depression. It was initially recommended because it was known as a inhibitory brain neurotransmiter (and drugs such as benzo's which were being sold around the same time were being used for deppresion / type indications - wrongly or rightl, i.e GABA was in some peoples mind incorrectly thought of as 'natures' benzodiazepines) but really they have no evidence to back up clinical use (normal for many vitamins etc) however there is no strong anecdotal evidence either. The peripheral & minor effects just ADD strongly to the perceived placebo effect because the user 'feels' a change.

I can believe snorting or IV administration improves CNS penetration (reasonable doses of IV loperamide caused respiratory depression and minor pain relief) - doesn't mean it's practical / fun / useful.

Also as for the 'cut' drugs? No offence but if it's already cut with GABA how do you 100% know there are not other compounds in it? Even the GABA itself could have been cut with something else.

agreed. feels like the physical symptoms of panic attack/hyperventilation. passes after 5 mins

Peripheral GABA has a fuckton of actions on blood sugar and growth hormone, you probably gave yourself a weird case of hypoglycemia as far as the "OMG going to die" part is concerned
