Anti-depressants

I don't want to use benzos, as I don't get anxiety and the physical addiction/withdrawal is horrible. I'd love to find a psychotherapist that was willing to try alternative drugs like sessions with MDMA and psychedelics or low doses of Ketamine. I'm quite interested in Tianeptine as it effects NMDA and AMPA receptors. It's also hypothesized to have a protective effect against stress induced neuroplasticity. I'm not looking for happiness in a pill by any means, I'm just looking to take the edge off my feelings.

Than stay far away from SSRI's.

And good luck finding someone that will give you low doses of Ketamine, it's illegal and a scheduled drug, not to mention it's only available at Veterinaries.

Sertraline (Zoloft/Lustral) at 50mg a day (lowest dose) works incredibly well at keeping my anxiety and depression at bay, but I believe my problems are biochemical in origin (5-HTP and other supplements are useless and I exercise a fair bit). If your depression isn't biochemical, think long and hard about medication as they probably won't work, or maybe even worsen things.

You really need to try to get an idea on what it is that causes you to feel the symptoms of depression/anxiety before considering medication, but in the right cases, antidepressants can be a great thing. I've also tried Citalopram and Fluoxetine; neither were at all pleasant and I discontinued both after a few weeks. Sertraline I found to be very different, its more an anxiolytic than an antidepressant, but as my problems are mostly due to anxiety, this is perfect. If you do try something, keep the doses initially as low as possible - I think many of the problems people have with anti-depressants stem from the dose being too high.

A point with Mirtazipine - it makes you drowsy and causes a massively increased appetite. Something you should be aware of.

ETA: Ketamine might work, but is not sustainable in the longer term. I've tried it and doesn't last long at all. That said others have had great success with it, so I guess it goes back to the ol' trial and error (as is the case with all of this, unfortunately).

I'm not going to find someone willing to try alternative drug therapy, I'm just saying I'd love to, though I know I won't.

I've got no reason to feel the way I do. There's nothing causing it, my life is fine. I'm aware of the drowsiness, but as I already lack energy and feel pretty "hazy" I don't think more drowsiness will be a bad thing, in fact, I'd love to be able to sleep all afternoon. I'm already fat so eating more isn't an issue, either.
Were you doing dissociative doses though?

ive been on pristiq which is an SSNRI, supposedly very similar to effexor. truthfully, i'm not sure my doctor's rationale behind this, but that's neither here nor there. he said that it's a stimulating anti-d, i guess cause of that nor-epinephrine part. ive been on it about 8 weeks now, and up until last week or so it wasn't really doing much (keep in mind though i was prescribed this coming off amphetamines..). it made me cry a lot more and made me feel okay with sleeping all day. the last few days, i can feel that "stimulating" effect and now i have trouble staying asleep and have started to have the "drug dreams"... "stimulating" in quotes cause anything after meth/amphetamines is HARDLY stimulating lol

I would definitely say that trying bupropion first instead of a SSRI would be a much better option. It has far less side effects then SSRI's and helps alot with the feeling that your dead inside and just don't want to do anything. It's a stimulating anti-d as it's a dopamine norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor so it helps with the sluggish depression. Also another plus is that if it does not work you don't have to worry about any withdrawal symptoms coming off it.

Well I just got back from the psychiatrist/chemist. I was put on motherfucking Prozac..
In an hour of me talking a bit and saying very little he somehow came to the conclusion I may have Schizoid Personality Disorder with elements of depression..
I don't even know
Also, he told me to take half a tablet for the first week... why is this?
Medication doesn't usually affect me as much as it does the average person (I'm a big guy) so why did he say this? I'm sure my body will be fine starting off with full tablets..
I just took a tablet, but I'll be taking them in the morning from now on.

I'd be rather skeptical of anyone who wants to throw a diagnosis out like that after just an hour long visit, but thats just me....I've lost faith in the field.

For depression I was given firstly Pristiq, made me shaky, lost 2kg in one week as it took away my appetite, I was wound up all the time. Next Efexor, similar but worse hated the feeling. Then Zoloft which had no side affects and did the job. The Pristiq did stop the depression in its tracks but the affects weren't worth continuing on it.

Yes 50mg Zoloft per day. I persevered with the Pristiq for 3 weeks, by the end I had lost 5kg. I felt like my metabolism had gone crazy. Twitching, moving at high speed all the time but not wanting to eat at all.

Body size doesn't matter with a drug like this.
Follow the doctor's instructions. He's more knowledgeable than you are regarding medication and how much to take

Well I ended up taking 3 tablets in halves over 6 days and now I've just finished my first 14 tablet sheet.

if my math is correct (since your initial post on 02/14) it sounds like you took 1 tablet the first day, 3 tablets over the course of 6 days and then 10 tablets over the next 10 days. Is that correct

Are you noticing a difference yet? I was on Paxil (which is similar to Prozac). Both are pretty strong. I tried Prozc but found Paxil to be better for me.

Be careful with your dosage. If the doc is prescribing .5 and you are taking whole pills, your script will run out. You may experience negative side affects if you don't take it daily.

Withdrawal from Paxil was horrible. Not sure how it is with Prozac
