Hello bluelight. I have a question and I am not sure if anyone can help.

I take 30mg oxycodone every day as per my doctors instructions. I am not abusing them, as i truly need them for back pain from a serious accident a few years ago. I have been on these now for a little over a year. Everything has been fine, but now whenever I eat or drinkafter i take my meds it seems as if my stomach isnt digesting at all. These pills make me very thirsty so i am always drinking a lot of water, and I just end up throwing up all of the water I just drank. It is very strange. My doc didnt have an answer WHY, he just told me to drink slower and try not to eat before bed. I just want to know if this is normal and WHY it is happening. My only explination is that the opiate is shutting down my stomach.

Any light on this would be greatly appreciated, i know it a weird question.

It is a weird result you are getting.........I would think after so long, your body is used to the oxy. I shouldnt say this but have you ever tried snorting the oxy & then eat or drink to see if you got the same result? I know its not harm reduction by asking if you snorted the oxy but just trying to see if its your stomach rejecting the pills while the acids are breaking them down.

First off, awesome name OP. I <3 Pendulum. Hold Your Colour = fantastical hehehe

Beyond that, as TLB said, that's a very strange reaction considering that you're not naive to the meds. Perhaps try taking 1/2 of the pill before eating and the other half after? Given that it's an IR medication that won't effect it much in terms of rate of action.

How about an antacid or something before hand? However this may change the bioavailability of the med (due to changing the pH in your stomach), and I don't know how / what change would be made.

It's a pretty common reaction, most likely caused by histamine release. Recommend you buy some antihistamines, they're usually sold as anti-allergy meds OTC (eg. benadryl/diphenydramine, zyrtec/cetirizine, loratadine, etc.)

But for him to be a-ok for >a year, then all of a sudden start having this reaction?

OP: Stop taking an allergy med recently or something? haha

Oh snap. Well, I remember a thread some guy made in which he had a problem where, on taking opiates, his stomach wouldn't empty properly and end up festering and making him sick, might be something like that. I'll see if I can find the thread.

How long after you've eaten are you sick, is it instant or a couple hours afterwards?

Ah right, I remember that too. Made the fish go rancid while he slept or something and gave him food poisoning...

I didn't see anyone mentioning so I figured it could be worth a shot. I'm not 100% sure with oxycodone, but I know with OxyContin they just made the new formula switch mandatory all over? Maybe you were getting one formula, and now you're allergic to the new formula?

Like I said, I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but if someone else knows the answer maybe you could tell me if I'm headed in the right direction?

Oh, ok, so if the OP is in America, maybe that could have something to do with why he's been getting sick? Just for clarification? Cause I've been on OCs and they switched them to OPs (didn't know it was just in America) and now I have to take two at a time instead of being ok with one.

Actually, quick ?, do you think the formula switching and it not being strong enough anymore would be a valid reason to talk to my doc about going back up to 40s?

The Oxy IR's haven't changed...

I have been on those for years OP and nothing like this has ever happened. Maybe don't eat when you take it? Do you take any other medications? A long acting pain medication or something else?

If you're on the OP's... you could be getting dopesick because the new time release SUCKS. I know alot of people that had to change meds all together when they changed the formulation.
