Opioids Really need help and advice about withdrawing from opiates. At the end of my rope

I'm not familiar with what you've been taking but methadone's usually cited as the absolute worst thing to come off. If you've done a rip off of that previously then you're obviously a strong and motivated individual. That's more than half the battle right there, you can probably come off anything. It's gonna be rough no two ways about it but I wouldn't have thought it's likely to be as bad as a meth detox. Shouldn't be as long at least if nothing else, but hopefully it won't be as intense as you remember either, especially with the other meds you manage to get hold of helping.

You can start a thread in TDS if you feel a need to vent once you're on with the withdrawal, or a mod will move this one if you ask them. Lots of us will be going through this or will have been through this and will offer what support we can. Don't amount to more than a friendly ear to bend but sometimes a bit of a vent and some distraction's all you need isn't it? Best of luck, keep in touch. :)

People seem to have great difficulty weaning off of lortab, percocet, in part probably due to their short acting nature and association with strong cravings.
Suboxone can be useful in your transition because it never wears off quickly (half life is 36 hours) and blocks opioid kappa receptors which help secondarily.
For example, use 2mg films and cut the smallest piece possible to take the edge off of withdrawal symptoms. Gradually take less and go longer between doses until off.
Still, sub is an opioid so you want to work to wean off it.
Long-term issue is being able to remain abstinent. Fortunately, you have something more important than drugs to motivate you. The brain needs healthy passions and activities and raising your daughter is your catalyst.
Would also reccomend aerobic exercise (which creates endorphins, the bodies natural narcotic), AA groups and yoga.
You can do it.

Exactly; for a quick taper, someone addicted to a short acting opioid like Hydrocodone or Heroin would benefit by using a fast taper with a long-acting opioid like Buprenorphine or Methadone- the key being quick as swimmingdancer and I noted earlier. The whole point being to reduce the hard and fast acute withdrawal syndrome of a short-acting opioid; which can be mitigated with things like Clonidine and Benzodiazepines; without taking the long-acting opioids long enough for your opioid metabolic setup to become accustomed to and dependant upon them.

I don't have my PDR handy and don't have login to JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) so I'll let this slightly incorrect concise description by HeroinHelper suffice for now:

Methadone Detox
The maximum length of a methadone detox is mandated by state law. In California, this length is 21 days. Normally, clinics set the length of their programs at the maximum length that the law allows. The first half of the program is used to detox the patient from the heroin and the second half is used to detox (or ween) him from the methadone. As a result, the doses administered for the first week and a half are pretty much constant--then the doses are decreased at a constant rate.

Buprenorphine can be substituted with Methadone for the same purpose of detoxification.

Fear of using the Methadone is understandable. I hope that whatever plan you come up with is successful and you are able to get through it healthy and happy in the end, and having your daughter as a motivation is really powerful.

Goood luck. Im sure you can do it.

Some herbs help, but living a healthy and busy lifestyle is the best.

Try to Excercise (instead of taking that pill, go for a walk or run around the house, start to sweat!) once that happens you will get hungry, so go ahead and eat. I like fatty foods when I'm in withdrawl, they actually make me feel SOO much better. Candy, Ice Cream, Fried Chicken and Gravy, Fries....mmmm....yeah its bad for you, but whats worse???

its mind over matter. My mind is MESSED. I am a daily weeed smoker and I Cant go a day without something in my body. I have not taken my own advice because I don't want to. YOU must want this. I wouldn't recommend doing any other drugs (except some weed, if you smoke), if possible I would do an opiate taper, it doesn't sound like your tolerance is too high, a taper might help you.....Slow and Steady....Life sucks sometimes.

As some people said, a rapid taper with BUPE 0.2 is a possibility, but that dosent work for addiction, it just helps you NOT feel like shit....Your still doing an opiate! IMO
