Hey bluelighters!

We'll be rolling again in about a week, and have recently "discovered" dubstep. However, as with most music, dubstep encapsulates quite a bit of different styles. We have found that Skrillex is very much the kind of dubstep we enjoy listening to, but don't really know anyone else like him. We've never rolled to dub before, and are excited to experience the different musical style. Can anyone suggest some dubstep artists (or songs) that are similar in style to Skrillex? A little light on the "wub wub" and heavier on the trance.

For those of you who might drop in here to tell us that dubstep sucks, please keep it to yourselves...everyone enjoys different things!

Thanks!

Honestly there is no artist out there that is like skillex. I have seen some other threads like this on other websites to no avail. Skrillex is a very diverse musician. His dubstep is very melodic and his non dubstep songs incorporate characteristics of trance, house, and techno along with his typical voice mixing thing. So I could make a list of artists that relate to him only based off minor similarities but no one truly has that skillex sound except for skillex himself.
I personally don't like listening to skillex when I roll though so idk

But here are my personal choices

Anything Happy Hardcore is effing inspiring to roll on

But for mainstream guys try
ABOVE AND BEYOND!!!
Kaskade
Tiesto
Porter Robinson
Madeon
Rusko
Nero
Wolfgang Gartner
Armen Van Buuren
David Guetta
Techno like Dj Splash, East Clubbers, and all those low key djs
Deadmau5
Oceanlab
Arty
Mat Zo
Anything AnjunaBeats
Some Hardstyle
Some Calvin Harris
Swedish House Mafia
Avicii
ATB
4 Strings

I mean there are plenty of electronic artists that sound great sober or high but these I find particularly good when rolling

post rock. all the way. this will destroy you, sigur ros, lymbyc system, do make think say, god is an astronaught all very good bands. also suggest a listen to pet sounds, by the beach boys, or smile by brian wilson. one more different type of music: animal collective or panda bear or fleet foxes. this music is just amazing (IMO)

happy rolling 8D

i reckon some more of the 'proper' dubstep tracks would be better for chilling indoors on mdma

deeeep basslines and such

@Yanker: That's kinda me too though man. I don't really get into too much dub, because a LOT of it just sounds like random noise. I like Skrillex, because he seems to take that random noise and melodify (NEW WORD!) it...lol. I'm not even too sure I'll like him while rolling anyway, but I've never listened to any, and new experiences are fun. If I hate it, I've always got 20 gb of my normal music ;)

@Yanker: wow, it's always interesting seeing what others listen to. Your suggestions are a little too manic for me, just a little TOO fast, lol. Great music, just not trancey enough for when I'm rolling.

@HollandHomeBoy: You are the exact opposite of Yanker! Again, great music, but a little too "chill" for my tastes. I would imagine they'd be great for the comedown though, when we're ready to relax and mostly call it a night. *Added to download list*

@Brimmy: Not too sure about Modestep yet, but Borgore definitely seems to be up my alley.

Keep 'em coming guys, even if the music isn't what I'm looking for, I love expanding my horizons!

Diggin' Zed's Dead...even if most of their stuff isn't original, they are very good remixes. Now, I just need to find a (good) Mad World remix...so many pretenders...

@Topmid: All were excellent. These were pretty much exactly what I was looking for. The knife party one...I'm pretty sure I shouldn't like it, but couldn't stop listening...lol.

Also, saw your comment on youtube...lol.

Excision- X rated, datsik- nuke'em, flux p- louder remix, downlink- factory, foreign beggars-still gettin it, ajapai- get down, stay down, roksonix- lets' go, and music in me, p-money- any track by this artist, cookie monta- blurgh, and ginger pubes, I could go on on and on. I love dubstep. I appreciate that skrillex has helped popularize edm. I am not an avid fan, but he is a talented bad man.

EOTO. they're not exactly dubstep but sound kind of like it. it's two guys from the string cheese incident, one is a drummer and the other guy plays a bunch of different instruments. their concerts are 100% improv so they pretty much don't have songs. they got a few shows on www.archive.org

best thing to do is go to beatport. go under dubstep in the genere section. Listen to a few tunes.. thats the best way to dicover some tunes out there
