Unwillingly drugged or a schizophrenic/psychotic episode?

Hey all,

I'm a relatively experienced user or psychedelics; I've used mushrooms several times, 2c-e once, 2c-i a few times, salvia numerous times, 4-aco-dmt several times. I haven't taken anything in several months, other than occasionally smoking weed.

Last night I went out to dinner and a movie with my wife. I was feeling fine all day. We ate at one of our favorite restaurants then went over to the movie theater. We were like 45 minutes early and just waiting in the theater. The movie started about 730, I didn't feel all the great. My heart was racing and pounding in my chest and I felt like my blood pressure was going up.

As the movie progressed, I had waves of feeling fine and feeling weird. Things in the movie didn't look quite right, and it felt like I was having difficulty hanging on to reality.

The movie ended at 10 and we drove home. I still wasn't feeling right. By the time we got home it was about 1030. I took my dog out and got ready for bed. While I was getting ready for bed my heart was racing even more, I started feeling very shaky and weak. I was concerned I wouldn't be able to walk from the bathroom to my bed without collapsing. I made it to bed and tried to get to sleep.

Once I closed my eyes, the imagery started. It was very psychedelic and I couldn't stop it. It was seemingly completely random with little rhyme or reason. Strange beasts, lots of eyes, weird structures, and a lot of morphing in and out with things that had happened that day. This is where I really started freaking out and I think I started to have an anxiety attack. It felt like a supreme struggle to hang on to reality. I force myself to calm down and started counting my breath. This went on for hours, till at least 130 or 2. My heart was also speeding up and slowing down this whole time. My blood pressure must have been high because I could feel my pulse throughout my body.

Eventually I feel asleep. I'm still not feeling completely right this morning. I'm still a little shaky and I can feel my pulse in the back of my neck.

So my question for you all, what do you think happened? All I can think is that I either got something on my hands at the restaurant or theater and got it on my face or that I had some sort of mental episode. I do remember at the theater, rubbing my eye shortly after we sat down and having it burn for maybe 10 minutes.

Does anyone have any sort of experience like this? Any ideas or input one what could have happened?

Sounds like it could have been a derealisation type anxiety attack, progressing towards a panic attack. It certainly sounds a lot like it. Have a search and see if that seems more likely than you unintentionally ingesting a drug.

Yeah sounds like some sort of panic attack. Don't stress it too hard it doesn't mean it was schizophrenic or anything serious. If you look around here people report having much worse, stuff like HPPD. Just learn how to reconize it when it happens again.

The fact that you were unsure of wether or not you were drugged probably created some anxiety and worsened it.

i'll have to go with freedstar on this one, just sounds like anxiety manifesting itself through derealization. I doubt you accidentally dosed yourself or someone else did, or that you're schizophrenic. If you are constantly playing around with very potent psychedelics then maybe you dosed yourself accidentally otherwise i think you are fine in that department.

just remember that anxiety can also cause you to feel off and weird. Perhaps psychedelics have just brought this out, maybe they have nothing to do with it but i constantly feel the way you describe, i've just learned to live with it. Hopefully it was just an isolated incident but it's similar to appreciating the beauty of something on psychedelics that you'd never thought of before and thereafter continuing to see that beauty without psychedelics.

Thats a panic attack sounds just like the ones I used to get but a mild one

Can one some make a sticky about spotting differnce between overdose/panic attac/haert attack/been spiked

There shouldn't be a need to worry about whether or not you've unknowningly ingested a psychedelic at all times. I mean unless you had reason to think someone dosed you but thats a wholenother problemo. What if your just dreaming right now bro? Would it do you good to constantly check and see? It seems like anxiety about it only makes it worse.

I accidentally dosed a friend once. He hasn't actually taken psychs since, quit smoking weed and I haven't seen him since October. Hmm, anyway.

Yeah it was funny at the time as I was giving out sips to my mates of some lsd laced water, everyone already being on acid and us being in a quiet area kinda led to a breakdown of communication so to speak, where everyone but him knew the deal.

My point being, you know when you've been spiked by a psych, almost always.

To be honist its usuall od/heart stuff ppl get confussed with panic atta,ks but I see some many threads on it I thought it time for a sticky

Stress, not enought sleep and or panic attacks can corse both oevs and cevs
From person experiance
The many doctors agreed with me

Why would weird psychedelic closed eye visuals come from a panic attack?

despite its innocuous-sounding name, a panic attack is a whole-body reaction that can end with losing consciousness. Anyone who has experienced a full-blown panic attack knows what it's like, and the OP definitely had one. Sweaty palms, increased heart rate, inability to focus, tunnel vision... If your blood pressure spikes, you often will see flashes of light and dark, or psychedelic-like swirls and patterns (along with the urge to close your eyes and go to sleep--- just make sure you're sitting down first!).

Thanks for the replies everyone. I ended up going to an urgent care place on Sunday because I was still short of breath and feeling just "off".

They did a chest xray and ECG to ensure there was nothing wrong with my heart/lungs. I was physically fine. After a few questions from the doc, he said it sounded like a classic anxiety/panic attack. After a lot of thought and really looking at myself, I have been under a lot of stress lately. I've just been repressing it, and it came to a head.

I followed up with my primary care doc today, he said if the symptoms continue that he would recommend putting me on a maintenance med (an anti-depressant approved for anxiety). I told him I didn't want to be on a maintenance med and would rather fix the cause of my stress than just treating the symptoms. He understood. He ended up giving me a small rx for xanax incase I feel another attacking coming on.

Everyone's replies were definitely helpful and insight. Good to know I'm no alone!

I've seen a full blown panic attack in a car from weed alone that resulted in what looked like a seizure and a broken window. Your mind is a powerful thing.

Although I'm a bit hesitant with this thread, I feel this falls under the "What did I take?" rule. We really can't tell you if you were drugged or not, so many drugs, and so many external sources can cause any of these effects, it'd be irresponsible to try and say "Yes you took a psychedelic" or "Yes this means you have this disorder" etc. I agree with others that it was most likely a panic attack.

The only thing you could really do now is mention it to your doctor, explain the symptoms in detail, and see what they have to say - and maybe, if you're really concerned that you were drugged, try and get tested to see if they find anything in your system? (Other than any drugs you've consumed by choice of course)

That said though, as I mentioned, this will just lead to wild speculation, so I'm going to close it.

Closed.
