Please help, I am crawling out of my skin!!

I am prescribed 15mg oxycodone every 4 hours for a severe and debilitating spine condition just so I can get up and kinda move around with our passing out from that pain and have been on this regiment for 6 months now. Tuesday when I went to a doctors appointment my car was broken into and along with stealing my radio, cash laptop they took my medication. I told the doctor what had happened and he said by law he can not prescribe any more or refill my prescription until the 19th. Today I woke up in full blown withdrawal, This is truly hell on earth! I was wondering if anyone here knows how long these withdrawal symptoms are going to last. I have done almost every "home remedy" I could find online and nothing helped one bit. The only thing that is somewhat kinda helping a little bit is I am also on adivan for anxiety so I am taking those to help me sleep and when I feel an anxiety attack coming on.I told my doctor about all this and how it is now unbearable on top of the spinal pain I have and he said there is nothing they car really do so I have to fight through all this until I can get a refill. I guess the my state limits the amount you can get monthly of the meds I am on and I am at the max. So I just want to know how long this is going to last before I feel normal again or if you have any suggestions to ease the symptoms in the mean time since I cant get a refill for 15 more days.

Put a police report in that way your doctor will pretty much have to give you a early refill if he has any ounce of compassion at all.

In the meantime you can get some OTC drugs such as lopermide, anti-nausea meds and diphenhydramine to help with some of the WD symptoms.
 
wow thats horrible luck man. why did you keep all of those valuable things in your car though? If you can call friends and have them look for someone who may hook you up with a few until your doc can refill the script. Many people take this medication so you are bound to know someone who knows someone who has them. If not Suboxone are miracle pills for withdrawal symptoms. Drink plenty of fluids and if you do smoke some weed. that always helps me anyway. best of luck man.

If your doc won't help you out, you could potentially order poppy pods or ultram online just to hold you over until your next script can get filled.
 
I put in a police report and showed the doctor but he said his hands are tied about giving me an early half refill :-( none of my buddies are on any kind of pain medications or suboxone. I looked into seeing a doctor for suboxone but my insurance covers next to nothing for it so the prescription would cost me $2635 for the months worth, I have the shittiest insurance in the world. I have a feeling I'm just going to have to ride this one out and take the symptoms as they come. I have been trying to take stuff to ease the stomach/ diarrhea issues but as soon as any thing hits my stomach it comes right back up, even water. I was going to go to the local E.R and explain to them what happened and see if they would be able to help but in talking to a friend who works there I guess when someone goes into the E.R for this they immediately send them up to the psych ward and lock them down for a week with no meds to help the withdrawals or anything. that is the small hospitals idea of "Detox/Rehab" My friend said when he worked on the floor he saw someone withdrawing so bad and getting upset because they wouldn't give him anything to help and they tied him to the bed with the leather restraints and let him just lay there while he was vomiting and crapping himself because they said " he was too violent to let up" the poor guy was detoxing hard and just needed a little bit of help. so that's def not an option..lol I heard there is an ingredient in cough medicine that helps with the symptoms DXM or something like that, Does anyone know if it truly works because if it doesn't I don't want to waste money on delsum that I don't need...lol
 
Your doctor could always write you a script for a different opiate like Vicodin to hold you over for two weeks. I wouldn't recommend Suboxone.
You will not be able to simply bounce back onto oxycodone after two weeks of Suboxone--you'll have to go through a wash-out period first.

And Vicodin is dirt cheap, he isn't breaking any laws, and your insurance won't care because it's a different med.

I am going to call my primary Monday and see if he can give me vicodin. I mean if these symptoms will be over my then I will just deal with the back pain until I get back to the pain clinic on the 19th but if this is going to last longer than a week no way am I going to put up with it for 2 weeks, this shit sucks...lol I tried the hot soak for the aches and it kinda works and the adivan is taking the anxiety away and making me sleepy buy I only fall asleep for an hour or 2 at a time then I am wide awake feeling like bugs are crawling all over me and puking my brains out i never knew even if you take opiate meds exactly as prescribed and don't abuse them that you would become dependent on them. What is odd to me is I don't crave them at all like I could care less if I have them or not its just these withdrawal symptoms are kicking my ass
 
Probably a pain management specialist. In many jurisdictions General/Primary/Family doctors can't prescribe something as strong as oxycodone. Although I would have thought that vicodin was in the same ballpark, but I don't have tons of experience with opioids.

The sagest advice in this thread, IMO, is to do as much as you can above board. You've already notified the cops and filed reports that your meds were stolen, and while you may not be able to get the replacement ones right away (which, to be honest, sounds a bit over-cautious to me), you should be able to get something to tide you over. The conundrum that pain management docs are in is that it can be very hard to distinguish between seekers and people who genuinely need more meds.

Stuff like loperamide will help a bit with withdrawals, but will do nothing for your pain, unfortunately. I wish that I had better advice for you; I do certainly hope that you're able to get the meds you need sooner than later. Please keep checking in, let us know how you're doing.

There is no distinction amongst GPs and pain management specialists in terms of what they can and cannot prescribe.

When a physician requests a registration number from the DEA, the number that is issued allows the practitioner to prescribe Schedules II-V, which includes oxycodone. A family practitioner may choose not to prescribe a Schedule II controlled substance, but as far as the DEA is concerned, that practitioner's permit enables him or her to do so.

No. Stick with the doctor who prescribed the medication that was stolen, otherwise you look like a drug seeker.

I can only speak for where the Drug Enforcement Agency issues the registration number to health professionals that is required to prescribe controlled substances, that is correct, but I believe that Great Britain and most of Europe follow a similar model.

What are the regulations in your community?

were you not told that this could happen by your doc? (genuine question, i have never been prescribed opiates) if not that seems shocking.
 
For the wd's continue using the Ativan as needed and try some Immodium (loperamide). They will help. DXM could also help, but if you choose DXM, select a DXM only cough syrup and don't use too much, or for too long. DXM will help with the pain, and the wd's. Different people metabolize DXM much differently. I would suggest starting with 30 mg every 6 hours, and going up to 60 mg if you have to. Again, only for a few days is this a good idea. Tylenol (APAP) and ibuprofen, naproxen, or aspirin will help as well with some of the pain.

Remember not to use naproxen (i.e., Alleve) and Tylenol in combination.
