I am 53 and have had restless leg syndrome (RLS) all my life. It does not disturb my sleep and any discomfort is minimal, however I final decided to see a doctor about it and he prescribed dihydroergotoxine, 4.5 mg per day. I read about the drug and see it is a nootropic, which I only knew a little about. After reading more (including here) I am somewhat interested in what improvements these drugs can provide me. The dihydroergotoxine has lowered my RLS significantly and I was somewhat surprised not to see much written about this for RLS. I did read patients with RLS were given 10-40 mg so I could probably get a higher dose from my doctor and I would like to know if there is potential memory benefits with this. I am learning a language and anything to help with that would be good. I am primarily looking to stay healthy and any enhancements would be a plus. Currently I am only taking fish oil and I eat a balance diet. I am in good health with no problems that I am aware of.
I most likely will try Piracetam, but I am not sure at what quantity and if I should also take choline.
I am also thinking to take Deprenyl.
Any advice on what to take for maintaining or improving my mind and for learning another language will be appreciated.

why take a drug when RLS is not detrimentally affecting your lifestyle?

You basically hit the nail on the head for me.

Is it bothering a significant other that shares the same bed?

However, if you're looking to improve memory function, give meditation a try. You'd be surprised how much more observant you become! There are a few threads in HL about meditation for improving memory and quite a few in P&S about the long term benefits quieting your mind gives.

Welcome to Bluelight, by the way!

i think RLS is just another label put on how someone deals with excess energy. Some people tap there leg, some people bite their nails, some people go on runs or workout. Big pharma wants to create a "cure" for every problem you can think of. I'd advise exercising rather than taking some weird drug that could detrimentally effect your health in the long-run.

Because it improves the symptoms. Drugs for me and many others is not only for the elimination of something detrimental but to enhance or to improve minor aliments. I could have a cold and runny nose during a business meeting and use the kleenex every couple of minutes or I could take a drug and eliminate the runny nose. Will that pill have a long term negative consequence, maybe, but I doubt it. Would the runny nose be detrimental if I did not take the drug, no. Does something have to be detrimental before using drugs, for me no.

Thanks, it does not disturb my partner, my ailments are minor compared to what I read others have. Once I am asleep I don’t move more than anyone else. The dihydroergotoxine has eliminated my RLS during the day hours and drastically improved it during the evening hours. So I am pleased with the results.

I am sure meditation would be positive for me and most others, but I was looking for a different route.

The further you go back in history the more you would here the ignorant answer you just gave for whatever aliments one might suffer from. It's not really a problem, your depressed because you just don't get out enough to enjoy life, depression is nothing a little exercise can't fix. I know what is real or not. Now I am sure there are those that don't, but I am not one to assume an adult does not know what he is talking about without getting to know more of the facts and this you did not do. I am not going to waste my time giving you a list of the reasons why your prognosis and solution is wrong the fact that you would have a prognosis and solution with very little info on me speaks enough.

I personally want big or small companies to cure "every problem you can think of." You are not required to take the cure, so leave it to other to decide what they would like to take and do to their bodies.
