Every Where U nEver Been
So due to years of femoral injecting , i've got yet another DVT , this is my third:\
I also have raptured my femoral artery in the past .
This is the insanity of addiction , you do something and although its really bad for you , you continue .

Just wondered if anyone else has had DVT ? Or other serious injecting complications ?

I have not but, I know others who have struggled deeply with this. You can still quit if you want to! Never give up hope in yourself. :)

Have you considered taking a break from injecting? Or going through detox/rehabilitation? What are your thoughts? You have options in getting clean, and you're not alone either in this situation.

yeah i'm a heroin crack addict and i started using my fem about 10 years ago , i've had breaks when i;ve just smoked the heroin n crack , i'm gonna try n have a break atm !

You ever thought about at least trying a different route other than shooting? Sobriety is obviously the best, but harm reduction definitely helps a good bit on your your to recovery.

Sorry to hear that Brimz. No use preaching to you cos you know all the risks and facts etc.
I think you are one of the more interesting posters on Bluelight and it would be a shame to hear that you have endangered yourself any further.

Safe injection practices are covered a lot more in "Other Drugs" but I can say that you are very close to throwing a
clot to your heart, lungs, or brain.

serious injecting complications? yep. i lost the fingers of my left hand to crushed demerol injections. nomofosho.

I'm really sorry to hear about your DVT Brimz! :( Congrats on the break though, that's fantastic :)

I'll be back home for good after Christmas, I'll give you a bell :)

Take care of yourself, maxalfie is right <3

I have a bit of a different perspective on this, as I do not inject. Instead, I have a hereditary condition that predisposes me to blood clotting. It does not affect my everyday life beyond difficult menstrual cycles, but I will need to take additional precautions if I ever have a child or have surgery. All of the women on my mother's side of the family are similarly affected. We did not know until my aunt nearly died in childbirth. The clot was in her leg and if it had made its way to her heart or lungs, she wouldn't be alive. (My aunt doesn't use any recreational drugs aside from wine.)

brimz, the dangers associated with injecting are many, but DVT 3 times? Yikes! I've never interacted with you directly, but I think well of your posts. There is an organization called the National Blood Clot Alliance and they do have a UK branch. The main website is www.stoptheclot.org. I don't think they address drug use directly. They are a wonderful source for information regarding clotting disorders. It is possible that you have the same condition as I do (Factor V Leiden), or similar. It is not as uncommon as people think, and there are two ways to know: genetic testing or the hard way. Knowing that I am predisposed in advance will preserve my health. DVT is a really big deal. Often it is misdiagnosed. The stories on the Stop the Clot website and the people involved have helped me. The fact that I am really scared of needles has also helped - assuredly, I have my problems, but I don't like needles.

If you do not already have compression stockings (basically, knee-high socks with a twist - a doctor can advise you on this and they're available at most pharmacies), grab a couple of pairs and don't get on a plane without them! They're not stylish, at all. If you choose to inject, which a 3-time DVT person should not, it is imperative that you don't inject into the femoral artery.

I wish you the best and if you have any questions beyond what I've described as my experience, please PM me. More importantly you should seek treatment for your addiction, IMO. Take care of yourself, seek genetic testing... and please, please, please stop injecting. It is a path to nowhere good. Whatever is going on in your life, you are still here. I'd like to see it remain that way.

Hi Brimz hope u are well. You can PM me anytime you feel like it mate, would be good to hear from you.
Have a good xmas and new year mate.

Yikes Brimz....Look after yourself man....It's hard to uselessly sit and watch good bluelighters sabotage their health through addiction.

Do you reckon this has caused a change in your outlook on life? Potentially...you could use this as a motivator to knock things on the head once and for all.

Phoenix from the flames at all that ;)

thanxs to everyone for your concern.

I can't explain why i continue to inject hard drugs despite knowing all the associated risks & getting away with it for so many years and several spells in hospital.

I would love to say " Right i'm never gonna do it again " but to stop doing something that has been the biggest thing in your life for a good 15 years is never gonna be easy.

We will see.

Besides i say i'm gonna quit everyday like most addicts do !
Tbh i would like to see what the world looks like without drugs its been so long n i am really pushing my luck i rekon.

I think the best thing i could do is to get my methhadone script actually raised , yeah this sounds daft but if i was on a blocking dose 70/80ml as opposed to just a holding one 40ml i wouldn't be tempted to inject any Heroin .

This would mean having to be really honest with my doctor and key worker both of whom are actually decent people.

I know that my Doc will be resistant to this idea cos , he thinks i'm doing ok on 40ml but i'm just telling him what he wants to hear so i don't get any hassle .

Its a dangerous thing being to honest with prescribing doctors as i have learnt in the past .
Maybe oh fukin ell i dunno what a mess8(

I reckon go for it Brimz, your health is at risk now - you could just say the cravings are too much on a holding as opposed to a blocking dose then admit your use if they don't buy that? In general I think it is always best to be honest with your doctors, but I recpognise that not ll doctors are ace and that the consequences of this can be pretty bad :\

Maybe speak to your keyworker about it first?

Good luck! <3

well my mate bill jones, bristol folks might know him had DVT..... and a blood clot ended up killing him in his brain.... BUT only cus he didnt take his blood thinning medication±± So take that shit, dont be silly like bill.

His legs used to swell to such massive sizes, and if i merely touched his leg he could be in agony.

Love you Bill <3

Brimz, I shall be in touch as soon as I land back in Bristol. I'm sorry it's taken me so long, last few months have been a blur.. Wcote, another Bristolian! I am so sorry for your loss <3

Hope it goes well if you decide to talk to your doc about uppping your dose Brimz <3

Fuck Brimz really sad to hear that. I've recently gone through a spell of injecting heroin for about 3 months, and i've managed to stop. I don't knwo what damage I could of done, but so far Im lucky that nothing serious has happened. Your post and seeing a few people I know around me has made me never want to inject again, even though I always followed harm reduction rules, cleans work etc. It just ain't worth it. I much prefer smoking it, although truth be told I've deffo got a bit of a needle fixation. Still I'm keeping the fuck away while my veins are still working.

WR, I'm so pleased to hear that! Keep going, I know you can do it <3

I'll introduce you to Brimz when you come to Bristol btw :)
