Television The Walking Dead

^Currently 90 issues are out I think.

Its pretty damn good if you ask me. Hope you enjoy them.

91 issues :) I've been going strong since it started about 7-8 years ago

3, 4 - judging by your tastes from what I know here on BL, I think you will be impressed. TWD starts off pretty good, but then the story starts to peak when the survivors get to the Prison. and then the best bad guy in comic book history, the Governor, is introduced - that shit just literally goes off the chain mane

I'm going to re-watch that last TWD episode. am I the only one that thought it was finally, a great episode in Season 2? I remember liking the Season Premiere a lot, but I think this last ep even tops that

so does anyone else here think that dale on the tv show reminds them of papasomni?

I have been wanting to post something in here for a while, but I've been lazy. Seeing Vibr8tor post, though, got me super motivated!

Shit. I can't remember all the specifics I wanted to comment on, but generally speaking, I still am so in love with this show. I love the interpersonal relationships and drama too.

Regarding the mid-season finale: dude. Shane is gone. Gone, dude. The end scene with that...decimation of those walkers in the barn was pretty moving. And, obviously seeing Sophia was...gut-wrenching. (Axl, I had totally forgotten about that still that you posted.) And, of course, Rick is the only one who can man up and shoot her in the head to end it. Fucking Shane all-of-a-sudden becomes unable to pull a trigger (as did all of his previously gung-ho cohorts)?! But, that was fairly predictable.

The pregnancy? Eh. I dunno how to feel about it. Andrea- still not a fan. She reminds of that one chick who petitioned to get into the Citadel and then bailed in a week. I know she's progressing, her character remains annoying (plus, the dumb cunt shot Daryl!) Maggie/Glen- it's fine. I hope if they leave Hershel's, that she goes with. Shane- how long until that crazy bastard goes rogue and then starts trying to sabotage them?

After the barn, I cannot wait to see how they open the rest of the season. I truly hope things are addressed, and it's not just them, back on the road as if Hershel booted them. I want a blow-up (Mt. Vesuvius, even) between these people!

And thanks, Vibby, Papa will now forever be Dale in my head and vice versa. <3

I've read a bit of the comics so don't read this if you don't want to read a prediction based on already reading...

It *looks* like they are already in the prison before the end of the season from the trailer

I hope they don't rush getting them to the prison just to make the comic fans happy...
Although, it will be cool to see if they do the whole Merle as the Governor thing that a lot of people have theorized...

the fact is, they need to get to "that place"

you of all people should realize this, as I seem to remember you being a vocal opponent of this second season

and the reason this show has been lagging is because it has been going nowhere (literally and figuratively). the Governor was one of the best comic-book villains of all-time. him and some of the newer characters (characters that have been seriously disfigured due to surviving the apocalypse) should be a breath of fresh air

this article right here promises four fresh new faces to inject some lively-hood into the mostly stale first half of TWD Season 2! read if ya want!

Michonne's Walker Pet Sounds Off

Unable to contain either his excitement or spoilers, aspiring actor and Walking Dead extra named Dupree R. Stansell let slip some information about upcoming episodes. His typo-ridden tumblr post (which he has since removed) reveals that character Michonne, well-known among fans of the Walking Dead graphic novels, will first appear in season two finale. For those not in the know, Michonne's known for leading around her zombified ex-boyfriend and best friend around on chains, and wielding a katana.

After this incident, the show's creators are probably keeping Dupree on a shorter leash. No word if they drew inspiration from Michonne's methods and removed his jaw or arms to keep him from leaking anything else, though.

Of Zombies and Men

Two other upcoming characters not drawn from the Walking Dead source material are northerners Dave and Tony. Judging from the casting calls for these new characters, Dave may initially remind you of your favorite regular at a dingy bar, but he still possesses the brutality and cunning needed to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. This stands in stark contrast to less intelligent Tony, who's muscled and a fan of firearms, females, and food. Expect George and Lennie, err, Dave and Tony to stick around a total of four episodes.

From Fighting Fire to Fighting the Undead

Also joining the show in the second half of season 2 is Michael Zegen of Rescue Me. He'll be playing Randall, a "skinny and earnest" Southern kid who eventually finds his inner strength. Randall, "who is thrown into a set of unusal circumstances, given what has happened in our world," is currently scheduled to appear in four episodes. With a description like that, and not being based off any of the comic's characters, it's an easy bet where this is going (just guessing): He starts off as dead weight, other characters hate him, and then he valiantly sacrifices himself as walker-food to save the rest. That, or he dies brawling with Glenn over who gets to fill the show's "outwardly vulnerable but inwardly strong young male character" niche.

Looks like the series is trying to revitalize itself with an injection of fresh blood, and leaning more towards original roles rather than drawing from the comic book. How do these characters sound to you so far? Who would you like to see pop up on The Walking Dead next? Let us know!

Just got the comics when I got home from work (issues 1-48, Amazon is selling for about $30, the sticker price on the back is $60), and holy fuck they are awesome. I'm still at the beginning (Rick adjusting to camp, right now he is making plans with Glenn, after a night time conversation with Shane to grab guns, not going to say any of the events that didn't happen in the show), but this seems very promising.

The damn book has to weigh 20 pounds. Considering I am reading something else (The Song of Ice and Fire series, still on book two because benzos have wrecked my concentration and inclination to read, and it will be another 8-10 months before I ween down all the way, although I gain my concentration back a little more each 5 mgs of librium I decrease), I imagine I will have a lot of fun time to spend with it.

Can't wait to get caught up. Hopefully, I can take my time with it, as I would like to finish as compendium two comes out, which shouldn't be too far behind issue 96. Hopefully I will be patient enough to wait 5 months.

Glad to say I like it. I'm excited to cover ground not yet covered by the show, as I like some surprises, but I really like how the first season stayed pretty true to the theme of the comics so far without copying every single event from them.

The character drawings are fucking with my mind in a good way. It is hard adjusting to Rick and everybody else looking so different from the actors who portray them. At the same time, I find it funny that they found somebody who looks exactly like the comic book adaptation of Glenn. Seriously, they could not cast any better than that.

I knew you would like it 3, 4! and to just entice you more, you truly are just starting on your TWD comic book journey. the graphic novel medium is a true roller coaster ride, but I will say, the ride peaks in a couple more issues when they get away from the Farm and into the Prison. I'm actually asking my loved ones to get me the new Walking Dead novel, that tells the story of the Governor and his rise to power/prominence. I've read a sample chapter, and I'm really impressed on how impressive the prose is:

and it seems like I have nudged a couple of you on here to start reading the comics. I am very flattered, and I truly hope you enjoy them as much as I do

and 3, 4 - I do think they did a good job on the TV show on getting actors to look like the characters. Glenn looks amazing, Shane looks about damn right, and Lori looks apt with her hair-cut that way. I think the art is so striking in TWD - for all those that do not know, it is in black and white. very good for horror, imo

I havnt read the comics but maybe the reason for this awkward 'mid-season break' is so that they can build the new sets that all this prison stuff will require.

No, the entire season was shot a few months ago. This is a ploy by AMC to always have a show on the air. I'm guessing that Hell On Wheels ends in February, and they are trying to extend it into the month.

They talked about it on NPR on my way home from work about two weeks ago. Networks are beginning to believe it is a good idea to split seasons. It sounds awful to me (is The Walking Dead going to lose any viewers because the first half of the season was slow, and right when it is about to pick up with one of the best scenes in the series AMC decides it is time to take a break?), but networks want to try it out.

I'm loyal to my shows (unfortunately), so I'll keep watching, but meh at this whole midseason break thing.

And my guess would be that the new set isn't introduced until next season. If everybody feels it is the best, it deserves an entire season devoted to it.

I'm kind of torn with the split-season thing.
It can really kill the momentum of a series but it's also nice for a series with a shorter season so you don't have to wait 7-8 months until the next season.
I can see the writers working with this if it becomes the standard. Every series will have mid-season mini cliffhangers.

i like the mid-season break if only because they're picking it up once the football season ends. i was running out of ways to guilt my boyfriend into giving me the remote for an hour during SNF!

(also this is good as time as any to retract my previous statements in this thread.)

I don't think this season had any momentum to kill. They've been in the same place, doing the same thing since the second episode.

Haha, yeah the first half of this season will officially be known as the 10 (or so, im not counting) episodes (hours) where they stayed on a farm and looked for a little girl. Imagine a ten hour movie trying to pass that off as a plot. Though in all honesty they werent even looking for the girl the whole time, most of it they were simply on a farm.
