I've lived all over WA state my entire life. Also been in Oregon for a year and then California for a year. I'm getting sick of the West Coast!

I've been looking into places to the East. I have a rather small list of places I've been looking into and so far its mostly just "popular" places because I don't know the state enough to know about any other surrounding cities.

-Chicago
-New York
-Pittsburgh

Does anyone from the East Coast have any input? Or a new suggestion altogether?

I've heard Pittsburgh is one of if not the cheapest places to live thats actually a large city. Definitely cheaper than NY.

Personally I've always thought it'd be fun to be in NY but I could be dead wrong!

Whats your east coasters suggestions? Price is not a huge factor but keep it in reason..don't compare brooklyn to manhattan. I want to find a place with a great night life, I'm 21 and like going out more than staying in. But at the same time I'm not looking for a college party town. Also..must have good dope :P I want to find something new and incredible thats very diverse. I feel like all californians are the same.

It probably depends a lot on what you do for work. The job markets are still pretty tough in a lot of places. It's true that places like NYC are a lot more expensive but, depending on your job you could make more doing the same job there as well. I know people that live down south and make a lot less money than me but, because the cost of living is so much cheaper than here we live just about the same. Of course this isn't always the case but, definitely something to take into consideration.

Definitely come to new york, don't forget that theres more to it than the city. You'd be surprised how nice upstate is.

No offense to anyone from NYC, but I hate New York. There is always SO MUCH going on that it overwhelms me, far too busy for my taste. Driving in the city is impossible, and there are a lot of assholes. Everyone's in such a fucking hurry for some reason. Whenever I go there I can't wait to get the fuck out. It's also insanely expensive to live there.
I have never been to Chicago and don't know much about it. Also, I've never been to Pittsburgh but I hear it's actually a great place to be, I believe it even was voted "most liveable city in America" or some shit like that recently.

After a few years upstate I can't get used to living near the city again. I literally had to learn how to cross the streets again. I would pick Pittsburgh if I were you, or at least a suburb close to a city. The city can be a bit too much when you just want some peace and quiet.

even though im biased..chicago is the best..we have everything nyc has to offer except for the fact we are 1/3 the size and living in the city of chicago is like living in a spcific type of town..there is over 70 distinct neighborhoods in the city and by that i mean each neighborhood is like its own little city, people think of chicago they think of downtown but what they dont realize is that 90% of the people who live in chicago dont live downtown, they live in the "suburban" like neighborhoods..and if you want to live outside of the city 10mins in any direction on a highway and your in the burbs..hell i can get downtown faster then alot of peope who live in the city can..we got great nighhtlife, great sports teams and we are no more then 3-4hour flights to anywhere in the country

I dont know if you were considering other places than just the east coast. And I know everyone hates on Houston and says its shitty, but personally when i was in college there it was the most fun ive ever had in a city. HUGE music scene there, the female to male ratio is 4-1, great highways and transportation, any kind of drug you would ever want and if you cant find it there Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Baton Rouge, and New orleans are all within 4 hours. There is some amazing places to eat, they have the 3 major sports teams (i know they all blow. Thats why you go to a game when a good team comes to play). Honestly i spent more time in the woods playing around with guns and nature than being in the city and i only live 5 miles north of downton Houston. They have i think the 4th largest airport in the U.S. And honestly i drove in Houston for hours a day as part of my job and only once did i have to stop on the interstate do to traffic. Yea its hot as fuck in the summer but its kinda nice that on christmas you could be wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Houston also has a huge huge huge car scene in terms of meets, shows, and streetraces. If thats your type of thing at all. Not to mention Texas out of anywhere ive ever been consistently has the hottest most down ass chicks ive ever met. Also cost of living is pretty fucking cheap in H-town.

Also no state income tax is pretty fucking awesome.

Pittsburgh is nice but can get boring fast. I would actually suggest you to live in philly. Yeah, some places are shit there but you can find many great places as well!! The closer to inner city you're the more expensive it can be but there are many surrounding places you can live at for cheaper. Just avoid north philly, I only ever go there to chill with a couple of friends but that place can get dangerous fast...its way worse than west philly. Actually powell village in west philly is a nice safe neighborhood with victorian houses and welcoming neighbors. Other than that there is so much night life in philly you'll never get bored. Also I know nyc is expensive and trust me it is but you can always take the train on 30th street up to penn station for a day....it only takes an hour and 20 mins from there to new york city. So philly would be an awesome place to live and its got some dope that's fire. By the way I don't live there but close... I did a lot of apartment searching on craigslist ect and you'll get some good price ranges.

Good luck :D

I love and hate nyc equally and sometimes all at once...i've lived here 10 years and grew up in a suburb of nyc so I may be biased, but i'd say give it a shot. You can always leave if you don't like it, but the problem is once you've lived here, nothing else seems to measure up. I think nyc would be a great experience for you, but you need to have a plan to take breaks where you head upstate for the weekend or whatever. Otherwise, it can get to you. Regardless, everything is at your fingertips 24/7.

I do internet marketing so as long as I have internet access or cell phone access for that matter I can work anywhere..

I'm really open to anywhere I just would probably prefer east coast, if not permanent just for something new. I've heard a lotttt of hot chicks come from the south. Yeah no income state tax is awesome, there is none in WA. You guys get tar in texas right?

What kind of rent would I expect in somewhere like powell village? So you think that would be a better choice than nyc? Similar nightlife/city stuff just cheaper cost of living?

Is chicago lower cost in rent? I know I could check craigslist but would rather have someone that lives there answer that. Can you suggest any areas that are outside the city yet a close bus ride? I don't plan on getting a car. Well, don't think so anyways. that could change if I live far away from the city.

Yeah, Philly would be pretty similar to nyc. Cheaper of course...its like a smaller version of new york city. Well powelton village is located not to far from drexel university. Its powelton not powell sorry I didn't even notice my phone auto correct it last night. Prices for a one bedroom could range from 700 a month utilities included to 900...sometimes cheaper. Also if you look into roommates it will lower the cost a lot even in better neighborhoods. Really check out craigslist and click philly...you'll get some better ideas on price range.

I highly recommend philly because its like nyc but better prices around and if you ever want to go to new york you can hop on the amtrak trains.... Also if you like the beach the shore in jersey isn't too far away and also ocean city, maryland is close. Even rehobeth beach in Delaware.

I grew up in Spokane Washington, lived in Bellevue, Seattle, and then moved to Hawaii for a few years after Hawaii I moved to Montana, then after Montana I too realized I need to go out east to explore the New England states. All i can really say is that there is always something to do in NYC. I think in the future I will try RI or Maine. . LOL or Charleston South Carolina.

As much as I love the big cities. . I see myself when I am older in a chill place. .
I like the coast. Its not too hard not to forget that NYC is on the Coast. Other than that I would choose Philly. <--such great history and yeah a little cheaper. It has really changed to an artsy type of place in some areas.

Man in Texas there is great tar from what i hear, when I was there i wasnt into opiates. But from what i know they also get fire ass powder from New Orleans. I-10 runs right through it and I-10 is the most drug trafficked highway in the U.S. Also what you hear about the girls is absolutely 100% true. They are everywhere and not just hot but from my experience they are straight freaks. I think a big plus is its proximity to so much other shit. The coast is only 30 a minute drive south and then there is Austin which is an amazingly progressive town and atmosphere to hang out in, and then 3 hours east you have BR and New Orleans. I dont know if your done with school or not but there is at least 3 major colleges in Houston area.

Yeah I like Philly a lot, I actually spend a lot of time there. I wouldn't compare it to New York at all though, not one bit. Philly is really laid back, and everything isn't right the fuck on top of eachother like NYC is. Yeah there are some pretty shitty parts of Philly you have to be careful of, I've seen some fucked up stuff go down there, but for the most part the city's a really chill place to be, a lot of fun to be had. There's always something to do and it's a big city so you can find anything you need, but it's not fucking huge and hectic like NYC.

never been to NYC but chicago is the shit, everytime ive gone i have had a blast, never lived there tho

i could see myself liking pittsburgh but i dont think i'd leave texas for western pennsylvania, all the same rednecks and not nearly as good of an economy, never actually spent real time in pittsburgh, flew in one time, went with my uncle to drop something off one time (he was a trucker) and it seemed kool but yea its like it has all the negatives of texas and none of the positives IMO but then again i never stayed long

and i too would like to check out NYC atleast once but then again something tells me i would prob like chicago better

and if you're thinking Texas then think about Austin or Dallas first, not trying to hate on Houston too hard, but....

Out of that list I would go with Brooklyn, NY because of the night life...
Also you would like Hoboken Nj, which also has a nightlife and is across the bay from NYC....
Hoboken can be pricey(compared to near by cities), so you might want to try a city next to it, such as Jersey City,Bayonne ect.....

NJ is known for its purity of heroin & cheap price...

Not a huuuge fan of NJ..no offense if thats where you're from haha. I think the choices have gone down to Brooklyn or somewhere in Chicago. I was hoping someone could narrow down Chicago some more.

Whats wrong with NJ? The people here are not like people on that fag jersey shore shit.... those people on that show are mostly from Long Island, NY or Staten Island, NY

Plus Nj is literally right across the bay from NYC & way cheaper cost of living & close to NYC action... some cities of Nj mind as well be another Burroughs in NYC

Lately a lot of people have been moving to NJ and my town and around towns from NYC because its cheaper to live here in NJ and its still close to NYC with public transportation just like NY does

Just as far as places to live I've heard not a lot of nice things. But you are probably right. Most people are probably going off the shit they see on that show haha. I really don't have anything specific like "I dislike NJ because..." its just from what I heard. Which is what I'm going off of on all these places haha.

I've heard camden is pretty cheap in NJ but isn't that super ghetto?
