to someone who wants to start doing hard drugs but is worried about hard drugs messing up the awesomeness of weed?

I found a thread on here where a lot of users said that opiates screwed up their weed highs. How common is this exactly, and does weed typically become enjoyable again after you permanently kick opiates?

Do other drugs mess up weed? Is it only opiates?

If you could do it all over again, would you ever start using hard drugs?

This seems like a much more important decision than it might appear because weed is something that I'll be able to enjoy for my entire life... unless, possibly, I permanently screw it up with harder drugs. Advice?

Nothing messes up weed as far as I'm concerned. It's so easily taken for granted yet it's so unique. For better or worse I've used it continuously for nearly all my adult life and no drug has 'messed it up', including opiates. Even in periods of daily heroin use.

That said, it's always best to be cautious with any other potentially addictive substance you may encounter. So you're certainly getting it right in that respect.

Just think about how those other drugs will eat up your weed budget. That's what does it for me.

It wasnt that heroin messed up weed it was more like why would I spend money on weed when I can get heroin. Then it progressed to I need heroin or I will be sick so weed just didnt seem as important. Now that im on suboxone I smoke weed everyday again just like old times.

I dont regret doing hard drugs but I got really lucky some of my friends were not so fortunate.

ehhh, the thing is, marijuana is different because it's not a depressant, it's not a stimulant and it's not a hallucinogen - it's really a mixture of all.

I wouldn't say opiates ruin weed, but the euphoria from opiates is much stronger so you might find yourself becoming less interested in weed. There's really no permanency, because after you kick opiates, your dopamine levels will eventually return to normal. But you also might not enjoy smoking as much because you know there's something stronger; that's just a mental factor though.

With stimulants, weed is like a godsend. Eliminates the comedown and helps you get to sleep - no cons there.

All in all, it really depends on the person. I've enjoyed weed with opiates, stims and just about everything else. I still enjoy it after kicking everything else a couple weeks ago.

You don't have much to worry about, just be safe and use reasonably :)

I'd say that since I started taking the time to notice the more subtle effects of weed and how it aids me in meditation and contemplation (at the risk of sounding like an absolute kook) then I've appreciated it more. I can also identify with what crimsonjunk says about wanting a 'stronger' hit, but that only really applies if you're seeing it entirely as an intoxicant or escapism, jobs it admittedly does pretty well but not as well as other substances. Your attitude is healthy though, so keep it that way. ;)

pretty much this. Once you feel what good heroin really feels like, you just wont care about marijuana any more .

hahaha trust me. i am a poly-drug abuser, but i will never go without weed. marijuana always comes #1 in my books...

Some excellent answers here.

Personally, cannabis has never changed for me, even after I developed an opiate dependence. What did change, though, was my priorities. Opiates now came first.

I've always felt I 'need' weed with my opiates. At least a couple puffs.

I think the OP's question has been answered as best it can be, so I'm going to close this thread now.

If anyone has anything to add and would like to discuss re-opening it, PM me.
