Question about re-starting mirtazapine

A year and a half ago, after going through countless Anti-depressants, I finally found that mirtazapine was the most effective. After I sorted my life out and things got better i abruptly stopped taking remeron after taking it for about a year, without an discontinuation problems. Living in canada, winter is approaching and I have found myself yet again in the despair of depression.

My question is, it has been adleast half a year since I have taken any mirtazapine, and I was wondering if it is still going to take 4 weeks to start working again, or will the time it takes to start working now be shortened because my body was once fully used to this drug?

I know I tolerate this medication well, and if in theory it will take 4 weeks to start working again like it once did, is there anything I can do to speed up the process such as twice a day dosing? currently I've been taking 45mg for the last 4 days, once at night time.

Any info on this topic would be greatly appreciated, I've searched everyone and talk to doctors, all with no intelligent responses.

I would also think it would still take the same amount of time as before..

Taking higher doses or dosing twice a day won't speed up the process I'm afraid.. it is frustrating how long it takes to work, I'm sorry you are feeling so down. All I can suggest is try to do anything you can to make yourself feel better in the meantime - spend time with friends, exercise, eat well etc..

There is a depression megathread in The Dark Side (link) - there's a lot of useful info there and it can be a great source of support, I would recommend checking it out :)

Good luck <3

Effie is right, it will take just as long.

Be warned that your tolerance has probably dropped, if you were on 45mg before, that dose will knock you out cold now.

This is a good point. Yes, while there is no way to cheat the time it takes for the drug to start to become effective, it will still be pretty sedating.
