Every now and then, approximately every couple of hours or every few hours my body will briefly jerk violently like I've been given the shock of my life. Now I've read a certain amount of muscle twitching is normal, but when this happens to me it's quite violent, with my arms jumping up into the air or my head being pushed back for example. It's only very brief, literally just like a quarter of a second jolt out of the blue, but people have noticed and ask what the hell is up with it. I was carrying my dinner today (standing with it whilst watching something that took my attention on the TV) and I ended up dropping all the food all over the floor.

Do you guys think this couldd be indicative of some serious problem or is not anything to worry about?

I do this often when I'm falling asleep. I'm no doctor, but I'd say its something neurological. If you're having any symptom that's violent enough to make you think about it every day, then you should probably ask your doctor about it. If you don't want to schedule an appointment you could just call and talk to a nurse and explain your symptom and just see how they react.

1) Try taking a quality magnesium supplement for an instant relief,
2) Phone NHS24
2a) Book an appointment with your GP just to discuss it if it really is worrying you.

39LG) Magnesium is a fantastic aids nerve function and acts as a muscle relaxant.

1) Myself, and everyone I have myclonus now and then, like you describe, with no ill effect. (If you must know, I most frequently get the same clonus and feeling of electric shock while urinating lol)
2)If this has been going on for a long while without progressing, it is probably not a major problem.
3) That being said, probably does mean absolute, and no harm will come of having it checked out. But at the minimum, some benefit will come of doing so, as no matter what, it will relieve your worry. So go see your family doc/GP.

^this.
i'd start with the magnesium, drug use/stress/over-exertion/etc depletes the bodys' magnesium levels.
(reasons why frequent amphetamine-users complain of twitches/shakiness/jerks)
try and get something other than magnesium oxide, it has the worst bioavailablity.
jussst saying cause IME magnesium deffinitley helped when i had the shakes and it could probably help you out.
and like attempt4 said, if its really worrying you then book an appointment.

hope it gets better! :)

Most would say this is neurological, and while it could be, I believe it could be a manifestion of "hysteria". This meaning you are converting your stress/anxiety/tension/whatever into physcial symptoms. Try keeping calm, and facing your anxiety at your own pace, but don't worry too much about this symptom. Try voluntarily causing these spasms, and then put control over them. Just a little unorthodox advice here. It sounds nothing like seizures, so that's good, just muscle spasms. See your GP just to be on the safe side if you feel the need.
