A thought I had in the shower...

and lets be honest its not like calling someone anthropocentric is supposed to be flattering. so when someone tries to make an accusation on the type of person i am im going to defend myself whether its on the computer or not
do you deny that your post was anthropocentric?

i think you need to learn to take comments more at face value and not read so much into them.

Seriously, I have never thought of the term 'anthropocentric' as derogatory or offensive. I just used it to highlight a certain mode of thinking, that is characteristic of the human way to regard the world. This post is not meant to stir up another argument, just wanted to make clear that - as far as I know - the term pertains to a kind of philosophy, and is not derogatory.

To be completely honest I don't think that post was anthropocentric, but my opinion is pretty biased plus I know what I meant by it. You guys might've not meant anything by it, but i personally don't like someone who's self-centered so maybe thats why I took such offense to it

Either way more energy has been spent on this than its worth.

anthropocentric doesn't mean self-centred - it means "considering human beings as the most significant entity of the universe " and "interpreting or regarding the world in terms of human values and experiences ".

even if you didn't mean the former, your comments certainly fit the latter so describing your comments thus would seem perfectly reasonable.

anthropocentrisim is a fairly important evolutionary trait. If you look at our history, it is what drives our progress, education, and exploration. It is the only thing that could drive us to actually look for and finally find extraterrestrial (or terrestrial) intelligent life.

So in other words...being anthropocentric means your self centered. I appreciate you giving me the long drawn out definition to show how much better you are than me, but I know what it means

I also appreciate how you feel the need to go into every thread and give your cool alternative spin on things cause your the shit and all but enough is enough

No, that's not what alasdair said and it's not what he meant. If you can't accept criticism of your ideas, or avoid bashing other posters, then maybe P&S isn't the right forum for you.

this is the kind of thing i had in mind when i invited you to consider not taking things so personally.

you are reading way more into my responses than is actually there. i tend to agree with vader - if you can't take the discussion at face value, and see a simple definition of terms as a personal attack, you may want to reconsider participation online.
