(Photography) Why you love the place you live

I love my state (Queensland, Australia)

Taken while going for a stroll at lunchtime, through the Botanical Gardens in the city - the Brisbane River is on my right:

Eildon Hill Reserve (affectionately known to the locals as the Resevoir - i spent a lot of time exploring the hill and surrounds as a kid. I recently took my husband up there to show him around and this is one of the views)

Bump for ektamine. and this:

This is Jim (named by the waitresses at Aldo's at the entrance to the harbor). While locals and tourists come to order their crab sandwiches and fish tacos, Jim patiently fishes for hours for his crabs in the rocks. He never looks over at the people, just focuses on his task which is his life.

Herons are great, could watch them all day, even when they don't do much. There's a spot near my mum's where the overflow from the canal runs down a short bank to the river below in a really narrow sluice, just before the River Aire and Aire & Calder Navigation Canal merge for a stretch. This same old Heron just sits there all day, staring into the waters cos he knows every so often a small fish from up top is gonna wash down the overflow and into his waiting beak. Barely has to move, just open mouth and swallow. He looks very Zen while he's doing, or maybe Yoga's more apt, perching on one leg like that!

Hahaha, my capitalisation is all over the place Foots, often have to catch myself and think 'Wait, that's not a proper noun'. In this case I probably felt Mr Heron deserved the capital H! :)

Really nice shot across the river / bay, whatever there Spork. Love the contrast between the deep black silhouettes and the light reflecting off the water. Lovely. These all around D.C.? Potomac? And that it frozen there? Does it get that cold?

Thanks. :) <3 It's Madison, Wisconsin. We're nestled in between a bunch of lakes so we have the best of city life and the best of nature. The skier is on one of the lakes after a pretty massive snowstorm and yeah, it gets freakin' cold here!! :D

I had that down as the Capitol Building hence the confusion but yeah, Great Lakes I know of, explains why it's frozen solid like that. Wrong turn on the lake you're in Canada aren't you!

It is definitely spring and that is bringing us closer to the one year date of losing the beautiful soul that started this thread. When we moved in here, I was 8 months pregnant with him. I dug all these daffodils up from a site that was about to be bulldozed and transplanted them here. Their arrival every year means his birthday is coming soon. Now the Tibetan prayer flags we hung for him are flying above the fragrant blooms. No more birthdays--only the arrival of endless anniversaries of the day of his leaving--still, the daffodils arrive. stay safe everyone and hold on to those you love. Celebrate their beauty, and your own, with everything you've got.<3

God bless you.

Oh wow, that second shot is immense. Just the perfect banded graduations through the blues, pinks and purples and the contrast between textured foreground and almost flat colour above. Great. :)

Don't think I'll ever love another city like I do Paris :)

^ That photo so makes me want to visit someday. Such a minimal yet gorgeous skyline. 8)

You really should - I know I'm biased but it's honestly the most beautiful city I know, so far anyway :)

^those are amazing photos.

Caleb, every time I see this thread still alive I am proud of you. You had a great eye for beauty and even more, you understood that mostly we just need to stand still, stop the head chatter and open our eyes to see it wherever we may be.

to be fair, these were taken all over western washington. there are a few from down my street tho.
