So I have been wondering lately what is the best she to start abusing drugs. I completely understand that drugs should never be abused and that you shouldn't take them at any age, but what would you consider the safest age for recreationally using drugs. I won't state my age for privacy reasons but I started messing with DXM when I was 13 but have since moved on to stronger shit ( mostly hydro ) just want to figure out what the safest age is to reduce harm.

sorry dude, you've already started. welcome to reality.

its ok, i started when i was ten. so i understand a love of drugs, most definately, and i dont blame you.

but also, its important in life to always be real with yourself.

and the reality is, you've already started messing with drugs.

my advice, quit, go to NA, rehab, whatever it takes to keep you off them. even if you consider yourself not an addict of any sort.

as someone who started young and ruined my entire life, i always advice younger people against drugs entirely, they are not fun, they are not cool, its not enjoyable- it is *pure* hell. i promise, you do not want to go down this road.

and if you can't stop yourself from doing so, thats just a sign you need recovery. recovery is hard. sobriety is hard.

but being addicted to drugs, is harder. and the longer we use the longer we prolong our own suffering.

stay strong kid

At least wait til you're in college. It's so much better when you're not living with your parents anymore.

ideally, yeah, you'd wait til you're in your mid 20s. But that's rather unrealistic for most people... very few people do that.

I started when I was 17 and I'm really lad I didn't start when I was 14 like so many friends did. Even so, I wish I'd waited longer. I'm 39 now, and I have decades of drug problems to deal with. It's not pretty.

I’m going under the assumption the OP is early teens and I think as older addicts we should tell him that drugs are a slippery slope, none of us started using drugs with the plan to become a addict….we should be discouraging the use all together in the name of harm reduction , sounds like he is already standing on the edge of that slope as it is…your gonna do what you want, I’m just some guy on the internet, but as some guy who has stood where you are right now and gone down that route I say turn around right now, you be glad you did later I guarantee that

You should never abuse drugs, u always have to control your usage despite your age otherwise you'll face the consequences eventually. If I had to choose an age to start USING DRUGS(NOT ABUSING) would be 18 at least for weed and 21-23 for the rest of drugs. Every drug should have an age restriction depending on their addictive nature and also wait til your brain is developed. For example MDMA should be for 21-23 youngsters imo and cocaine for a bit more mature guys like 25-27 at least. 😆 if u start the thread with the word "ABUSE", you're starting with the wrong foot mate. Drugs are there to experiment and then carry on with your life. If you start doing drugs with the idea to ABUSE them, it's gonna end pretty bad. Only misery and despair awaits for you.

The title is a bit misleading. Should probably be " At what age is too young to start abusing drugs".

But i get where they were coming from. In a perfect world the answer would of course be never at any age.

I started real early in life and I learned one thing ,you use the drugs don’t let the drugs use you.

I'll echo that there is never a good age to start ABUSING drugs. On the other hand, responsible recreational drug use is reasonable once you're an adult. The older you are when you start, the less chance you will have of becoming an addict. Using drugs before you are an adult will lead to a substantial reduction in the natural effectiveness of your reward system, and difficulty having willpower, as drugs will carve their pathways when your brain is still developing.

Also please be aware, no one starts using drugs believing they will become an addict. Everyone tells themselves they'll be able to control it, it won't happen to them. But it does happen, to a great many. Certainly there are some people who manage to have a healthy relationship with drugs their whole lives, but almost every one of those I have ever met started using drugs in their 20s or even their 30s.

I know you said you already have used some vicodins... I can't recommend strongly enough to not ever try any stronger opiates recreationally. Opiates are the easiest to get addicted to and the addiction is life-destroying. And with all the fentanyl around today, overdoses are very likely. Opiates are the worst mistake I ever made in my life, and that decision (when I was 20) has had a huge detrimental effect on my life ever since. Not a day goes by that I don't regret ever trying them. 100% not worth it. I also recommend against getting into stimulants. Psychedelics are the only class of drug I can really recommend, when you're old enough. They're the only drugs I have never regretted, they've had a positive effect on my life.

It happens so often, there's enough of us to create a whole forum about it. Nobody wants to believe it will happen to themselves, that they are smarter, different or whatever. But it does and probably will to you too.
Now excuse me while I get my walker and go sit on the front porch to yell at kids to get offa my lawn

Yeah, there's no real good age to start "abusing" drugs as the OP says. Don't abuse drugs in the first place, period. The earlier one uses drugs, including prescriptions, the more likely it will develop into a serious, debilitating substance abuse condition that can ruin your life very easily.

That said, anyone interested in using drugs should be seeking out as much information about drugs as they can. Before taking any drugs, one should have a basic understanding of what it does, how it works, what dose to take and through what ROA, and it's addictive and destructive potential.

I believe it's said the brain isn't fully matured until like 25 or something, so if there was ever an age to use drugs in the safest manner, I'd say that would be a goal to shoot for.

Of course, do as I say, not as I do, because I definitely wasn't able to wait that long. But I can say I greatly benefited from having resources like this forum and others to come to when I was younger that helped me use a little bit safer.

Age 21 to 25 to 30 in my opinion are good ages to experiment with things that have the ability to expand one’s mind to greater depths while having reduced potential for developmental brain damage compared to earlier ages.

I don’t think there’s a time to abuse drugs where one loses control of drugs causing drugs to control us more than us them.

Disclaimer is that this is all personal speculation.

Here is the honest to god truth that I wish someone would have told me, if you feel like you need drugs in your life then there is something wrong with your life, instead of getting into drugs get into something productive…get a motorcycle or start playing paintball work out whatever sounds fun to you, forget about the drugs..think about it this way the best possible outcome is you don’t get addicted and stop using the drugs anyway, so why even take that gamble
