The Official 2008 NHL Playoffs Thread

the habs arent one to lay down. i hope they come back and stomp the flyers! :D

no offense to you of course sticky, but i dont like to be wrong! hehe.

and im with bromance on that last comment. :D don cherry's a hick from the sticks, barry melrose DOES look like a creepy rapist from a bad 70's porno (i've said similar many a time :D) and often blows smoke out of his ass. he can say anything he wants because nobody else at espn knows what he's talking about and i really think scott van pelt is the only person who gives hockey much respect. brian engblom though, i actually dont mind. i liked him when he was doing color analysis for columbus, but mainly because he made me laugh. i havent seen much of him since he left so i couldnt tell you what i think of him anymore simply because i havent heard anything of him for about a year and a half or 2 now.

bromance... i said it before and i'll say it again... i'd say you got a good tandem with drew ramenda and randy hahn, those guys crack me the f up and you can tell drew knows his hockey. he's a fascinating guy to listen to. i like when he does "drew's clues" cause he breaks things down to its finest detail. plus half the time i'd be willing to bet that they smoke down during the intermissions. they're f'ing hilarious.

and i still stand by my prediction of the habs beating philly. :D they'll probably even come back this game, but i havent gotten to watch any of it so i couldnt tell you based on what i've seen obviously. the habs are a strong and resilient team though and i wouldnt be surprised to see them strike gold in the next two periods.

Worst call in NHL history. Kovalev hit a puck down from out of mid air, his motion was from up to down, he hit the puck with his blade, his blade finished on the crossbar. Natural laws of physics tells you that he necessarily hit the puck above the crossbar. Just garbage, 2-2 game now, but Flyers on the PP.

Wow, another bad call leads to a goal. 1 minute to go, Richards puts a good shoulder into Kovalev, gets called for a trip. Montreal scores on the ensuing powerplay with 18 seconds to go.

So we have OT once again. Bad game by both the refs and the rules officals in Toronto. It aint done yet tho, Flyers are 2-0 in OT so far.

Tough loss for Philly. Kovalev played like a monster. And seeing Detroit win really bums me out.

I'm amped for tonight's games. I hope the Sharks come on top of their game, right where they left off with Calgary. Should be a fun series.

How is that definitely a goal? When I was watching it on TV I could clearly see that he hit the puck with his blade before his blade hit the crossbar. And from every angle you can see that he is swinging his stick in a downward motion and his blade finishes on the crossbar. Therefore it pretty much defies all laws of nature for the puck to be below the crossbar when it makes contact with the blade of his stick.

And no, it is not certainly a trip. The only reason why it looked as such is because Kovalev jumped out of the way at the last second.........oh wow, there is something I caught for the first time. I now see how it was a trip. Richards' stick got in there first. Kovalev's leg rode up Richards' stick which started the whole trip/body check sequence.

Props to SJ for coming back from down 2-0 after 2. I didn't get to watch the whole game, just the Stars 1st goal and the last 5 min of regulation.

Then OT started......do they get less than 15 min between periods in the playoffs? It's either that or my perception of time is skewed after a few beers.

Anyway, I get back to the TV at 1:00 into the 1st OT and Pavelski scores the OT winner 15 seconds later. I'm glad to see it. Hope that goes all the way to 7 games.

I also am hoping for a bloodfest in Pittsburgh. I hope they beat the living piss outta eachother. I won't be satisfied until 3 players get taken off on stretchers. And it's all good, cause Richards owns Crosby anyway. If you haven't seen them matched up against eachother yet, you will see soon. Like a benzo, Mike Richards has a calming effect on Sidny Crosby.

homer says: goal! a case of tastykakes for upshall!

the habs got every call they could (and more!) and still lost. amazing.

im not gonna lie, the habs totally screwed the pooch on that one. they made me about as wrong as they possibly could have. the way they played as a unit during the regular season i figured they were an easy pass for the second round against philly.

the pens/flyers series on the other hand... as wrong as i was about the habs/flyers... im still not giving philly a chance against pittsburg. even if richards does have a calming effect against crosby, the pens have such a potent top 6 and a strong blueline, i just dont think its philly's year to get to the finals.

not to mention, look at crosby wrong and you get whistled for a minor. he's as untouchable as jordan was in the nba.

i dont know, its a two way street for sure. tons of people want to hate on him for being a whiner, but the fact of the matter is, he doesnt whine as much as people say. yeah he lobbies the officials for missed calls and what not, but he's the team captain, its his job to get information and chum up the officials. :D

he takes a ton of punishment too and rolls with the punches as well as anyone. he's got more backbone than people give him credit for... he's often quick to back up his teammates when he feels opponents have taken liberties on them (legally or illegally).

I'm kinda late, but fuck Gainey for exchanging Huet. It was a bad trade. I know it was trade money but damn, it sucked cause we didn't get Hossa and only lost Huet.
Fuck the Habs for ruining their chance. But I love them too.

It was a good call. You guys make me laugh. Your journalists are simply ridiculous when they write about hockey, they were quoted all over our papers (which talk about hockey all year long) for being very very stupid.

Anyways, you won, but you're gonna get eliminated by the Pens anyway.

I can definately sense their bias for the home team, but I believe all journalists do that, perhaps ours more than others.

And I retracted that comment in a later post. From the side, it looked like a trip, but was hard to tell at first. From the head-on shot, you can see that Richards does not use his leg at all to trip Kovalev. He definately got his shoulder and arm on him.....but his stick got in there first which caused the trip. It was not a knee and it was not a trip with his leg.

And I'm sure you said the same thing about the Flyers at the beginning of the last series. How wrong you (probably) were.
