i've been passively watching Frasier. i hated it during it's actual airing. that means i haven't seen most of them. and like almost all successful sitcoms, it's about friends and family. so it makes me feel less lonely. it's a big change for me because in recent years my interest in film has waned and in result i didn't have a tv hooked up at my old house. but oddly still had one hanging on the wall as the focus of my living room. apparently i threw the remote away.
what's strange is the laugh track. it borders on ruining it for me. even though i think it is actual people, it pricks that uncanny valley sensation. the majority of the humor is sexual innuendo, so they do need a crutch. and a curious amount of lowbrow suicide jokes.
what's strange in a more pleasant way is their cellphones. i know they're supposed to be posh and stuff, but even rich people did not use cellphones in the 90s. yeah some people had them -- especially "car phones" -- but i don't remember people actually using them. not only do they use them, but they're small flip phones. that's not how i remember it. on the show they do only pull them out to make calls; they never answer their cellphones.
bulldog is my favorite character. they make you want him to be human so bad, and then give it to you in the tiniest, most unsatisfying, incomplete doses. like when they treated each other kindly on That 70s Show. they never really let you have it, but it was always there, and felt like what was genuine, so you wanted it bad.s
sucks it shows alcohol consumption every episode.
and just cause i'm watching right now ... oops at niles, a renowned psychiatrist, saying, "the vet said half of one of maris's green pills" would tranquilize the dog during storms. oh, and he receives a call on his cellphone in the same episode.
