Looking for good documentaries/realistic movies on drug culture(preferably heroin)

Hi, first post so don't kill me if I make any mistakes :).

For a while now I've been very fascinated in the cultural environment drug addicsts live in. Stumbled upon this forum once and read a ton of threads, which is what sparked my intrest.
I'm deff not thinking about starting using (nor do I want to pass any form of judgement on people who do), so nobody should be worried about the reason for this intrest, it's just fascination.

I'm mostly interested in the heroin culture, since it seems to be the drug that creates the most isolated and different environments amongst its users compared to the "everyday world".

Since I feel like it would be pretty unethical to ask these type of questions on places you can come in contact with users/addcits(like this website), I was hoping to find some good documentaries or realistic movies portraying these cultures.
I've seen the Drug Movies thread, but imo my request is very different and warrants its own thread. As thread mentions preferably about heroin, but please mention anything good you know, regardless which it is about.

Stuff I've seen so far:
Documentaries
-Black Tar Heroin (by HBO)
-Louis Theraux' his documentary on meth

Realistic movies/series
-The Corner
-(grabs flame shield) Requiem for a Dream, don't want to claim this is realistic because I simply have limited knowledge on the drug world, just want to throw it out there realistic movies with these types of set up are also OK

Go to documentarystorm.com and click on the sections titled drugs on the right hand side of the page. Should have plenty of good docs for ya.

I thought "Drugs Inc." was pretty good. It's a four-part series on marijuana, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine. It talks about each drug from many different viewpoints - from traffickers to users to law enforcement.

There are videos on youtube, just search heroin addiction.

Most docs that I have seen focus on the stereotypical dope fiend..livin on the streets-panhandlin-schemin-ho'n-etc. It would be nice if they made a documentary about some of the "functional addicts". Either people who are artistic(creative in a positive way) or just more regular people that go to work everyday. There actually are some people who manage to keep their lives together with a dope habit.

I agree on your comment. I really really liked Black Tar Heroin and advice anyone to watch it, because of how honest and uncesored the movie is, but there is a bit of bias in there because they only show fuck ups. I guess functioning heroin users are hard to get a hold of because they probably don't want the world to know they use.
Will check out youtube later to find good stuff.

Its not really a documentary as much as it is the memoir of a young kid who ended up being moderately high up in the New York heroin scene. Moved kilo's of the stuff, made his money, and got out of it without being killed or arrested.

Its a long read, but a damn good one....

I read the first few paragraphs to see if it would spark my intrest, read the whole thing in one time. Very good read, I advice it to all. TY to all other comments too so far, I'll be sure to check them out.

Vbs.tv has a nice documentary that follows two heroin addicts. It's called swansea love story. They also have one about liberia that is SO fucked that also contains some fucked up shit including some heroin addicts.

i cant think of any documentaries but i have some recommedations for some movies that i think may enable you to grasp a understanding of the drug culture. if you havent already seen the following movies- id totally watch them.

1. basket-ball diaries
2. rush (hard to find but so worth it- true story)
3. less then zero
4. wonderland

have a good one and take care...
