If someone's Testosterone levels were 539 would that explain then why they've been acting like such a dick.. or in his case.. a bitch? Because a man would feel his best at 1000 or close right? Any lower than 600 would make him feel lethargic, hormonal, PMS right? Or does it not work that way? Asking for a friend who needs serious help and I don't know what the fuck to do for him but he's becoming a problem and his bitching is pissing me off so I don't know how he wants me to help but his doctor doesn't want to raise his dose he takes 100mgs and I guess no other doctor covers his TRT so he can't find another doctor. What advice can I offer him so he can fix this issue and get himself better? I'm trying to help him out here.. he's not doing too well.

The 500-600 range is generally considered therapeutic range at least here in the states. Have his e2 levels checked. Typically it seems when people get emotional whether that's "roid rage" or teary eyed sad, it's estrogen related.

Yeah that’s the first thing I told him I believe! He said it possible but impossible to get his e2 checked because his doctor won’t even check his free test.. he just does the basic blood work

Is this in the USA? If so he can order tests online and have the blood drawn at a private lab.

Otherwise, it's unlikely a doctor will order tests for important hormones like estradiol, DHT, and t3 as these are typically more expensive

A drawback of 'free' healthcare...

Anyway, if he's acting like a bitch, supplementing his prescribed test with a DHT hormone should be the first step as aromitase inhibitors can be quite harmful

So he needs to add something to his test cyp? What would be good to add ?

As previously stated, bloodwork, or you don't know whats really going on...!!

You could try increasing the length of time testosterone takes to be metabolized (broken down and eliminated), by inhibiting CYP3A4..
Try half a fresh grapefruit with breakfast..
To counter CYP19A1, the enzyme that converts testosterone into Estrogen, lower adipose tissue (belly fat)
Increase foods rich in L-Tryptophan, and B6...

Bloodwork. I don't cycle (I'm trans) but I've been on basically every different kind of testosterone. Weekly, 3 weekly, 10 weekly, daily gel.

When I was on the gel my testosterone went up to twice of what it should be (in Australia normal range is between 12-24, mine was at 56) and it started aromatising back to estrogen. Not cool, not fun. Was having issues for 2-3 months before I asked my GP to run a test for estrogen alongside the testosterone and that came back sky high as well.

Naturally, trans men tend to want to avoid having the T aromatise back to E because it causes us all kinds of shit. So I got slammed with progesterone and I still take it.

Problem I had was I'm very lean, not much fat on me to speak of and the gel really sinks into muscle and stays there, so my body wasn't metabolizing it properly. Dropped to half the dose, then my next testosterone level was 4.

Put the gel in the bin and went back to 10 weekly 3/ml shots to be adjusted as needed. Dropped back to 9 weeks.

My point? You can't tell anything without blood work. If you're going to do steroids or hormones, you need frequent blood tests. I get them once every 8 weeks. That's just part of my life now.

If your friend is committed to doing this, they need to be part of his too.

What’s the length of time if grapefruit was to be used for the conversion?

What dosage was your gel? I had 50mg/sachet which was weak but maybe I didn't use it for long enough. Only difference was that stimulants became aphrodisiacs. My natural T was with last test around 400, they adjusted the scale to the lower end so it's still within that range but too low.

I stated grapefruit with breakfast, as body levels of testosterone are highest early morning, therefore you want to avoid its metabolism from that point onwards.
I might be prudent to use most days if you notice a difference..

Look I can't recall off the top of my head and I very recently dumped the extra pumps that I had because they were wildly out of date.

This is the exact medication though. So whatever that doseage is, 4 pumps a day.

I am pretty sure my natural T is quite high for a trans man (someone assigned female at birth) as I was often made fun of for being manly in high school, and I had an androgynous voice. Before I started HRT I passed I'd say around 50% of the time, and within around 3 months of being on HRT I essentially stopped being misgendered 99.9 times out of 100.

Like, I have more body hair than almost every cisgender man I know, my legs are super dense, my arms are covered, my chest is a bit. I have a full beard. I didn't end up with the 'trans guy voice' which is this stereotypical kind of nasally feminine voice a lot of trans guys get because their voice just can't break that deep. I'm a low bass. I play competitive social sport with men successfully and have since I started taking HRT, and I've won plenty of awards. I'm as fast or faster than most of the other guys I play with.

When I was lifting at the gym with a friend, I was deadlifting (without much training) 150kg, squatting 130kg, and benching (my weakest) 65kg. That was only after around a month of heavy lifting. Meanwhile he maxxed out at 40 deadlifting, 50 squatting, and 40 bench pressing. And he was a much bigger guy than me and used to be in the army.

Like I dunno, my body has just responded fantastically well to hormones, seeing a picture of me you would never pick me as trans in your life. I compete with men, and I can do everything an average man can do. Do I need to take hormones to do it? Sure, but only to get to the same level everyone else is at. The rest is just my own hard work.

Different testosterones have felt and worked different. I was on primoteston (3 weekly shots) initially (2015) and the changes were rapid. Instantaneous voice breaking, became smellier, hungrier, changes in body (fat distribution, face shape change). Then eventually I swapped to 8 weekly shots. Facial hair sort of started to only just develop, this was in 2018. More voice breaking and muscular development with body hair increasing substantially. 2019 I went on the gel as my levels got too high on the shots. Everything sort of slowed down on this. Things stated pretty much the same as they had and were moving slowly. 2021 went back on 10 weekly shots and my facial hair went bonkers. I went from growing a really patchy beard to something that I can actually have out in public and my muscle development has peaked again now that my levels are right. When my numbers were off, I was having periods again and I honestly wanted to kill myself since it had legitimately been around 6 years. If I ever was unsure I made the right choice, that happening made me certain.

Clearly there is a huge difference between cis men cycling and trans men taking HRT but the single thing we have in common is that we are both taking a substance which creates massive changes in your body. And you really need to treat that with the respect it deserves. I was stupid when I went 8 months without a blood test. If my levels go too high I can have a fucking stroke or a heart attack. It's not a game.

Monitoring your health is super important with hormones. It is super risky otherwise.

I'm curious, have you ever crossed in to the higher ranges of testosterone that would be supraphysiological? Like I know plenty of cis women who've used aas but of course, never high test for fear of virilization.
More in terms of diminishing returns and side effects. Was curious if you'd hit that plateau earlier as your body is accustomed to being androgen starved so response would be sharper and more dramatic than a cis male.

Okay so my buddy’s been watching some guy on YouTube named Kai who talks about home brewing and told me he was going to home brew. It’s not too difficult to homebrew right? Figured I’d ask you guys so I can help him out before he goes and does something and totally fucks up.

He’s upset because last time his endo told him he’d like to see his numbers at around 700-800 and wonders why this time he’s telling him that 500 is perfect and he should continue to take 100mgs. Would it be that harmful if he bumped it up to 150? I remember years back I bumped mine up to 250 for a month just to test it out and I felt much better at 250.. packed on some size and my overall well being, sleep, health in general was damn near perfect. So I do wonder why these doctors don’t listen to us when we try and explain to them what feels right for us? After all we do listen to our bodies so why don’t doctors ever listen to OUR needs?

Unfortunately many practitioners still treat numbers and not symptoms when it comes to hormones. The desired range in the 700s wouldn't be detrimental.
As for home brewing, it's not hard but definitely opens up things for major criminal charges as that's manufacturing drugs and a major possession charge and potentially intention to distribute.

So you could still get into trouble with the law even if you explained to them you weren’t selling it but merely taking it for yourself for trt?

I don't quite understand what you mean as I don't know much of the terminology around hormone dosing especially for cycling and that sort of thing. Happy to answer if you can dumb it down for me.

At a guess of what you meant - if my levels go too high I do get negative effects from it converting back to estrogen. I'm not sure my level for it is lower, because when it happened to me it was at twice the normal range but it would be interesting to know. I know for a fact that later this year when I have a hysterectomy I need to retain some aspects of my anatomy or I'll have to be put on synthetic estrogen too, given otherwise my body won't produce any. And despite what many younger and more inexperienced bodybuilders and cyclers think, cis men do actually fundamentally need at least some estrogen in their body just like anyone else. Just as cis women produce testosterone, cis men also produce estrogen at varying levels.

If my answer isn't what you're looking for I'll check back once you can rephrase it for me so I can answer properly.

I wasn't sure if you'd gone higher than your prescribed hrt. Most cis men that aren't obese can tolerate 250-500mg/week of testosterone without major negative side effects such as the hair thinning and acne and estrogen conversion issues. Was curious if trans men experience negative side effects at lower doses due to potentially more sensitive androgen receptors.

Oh no, I'm actually on a lower dose than an average trans man because of my build. I'm incredibly lean, and the gel especially doesn't stay in fat as long as it stays in muscles so there was a build up of it in my body over a lengthy period of time. When my levels went high on Reandron (8-12 weekly shots) it's because I started on 8 weekly shots and that was never adjusted for me due to personal physiology. Now I'm back on the same shots but I take 3ml instead of 4ml every 9-10 weeks thanks to seeing a specialist in the area who knows what she's doing. It was way outside of my GPs area of expertise to fix what was going on.

So no, regular dose, just not adapted properly to my individual circumstances.

However I would imagine any trans man taking a much higher dose would have the negative side effects that you and U have mentioned, so I would consider your thoughts on it to be correct.
