Tell us about the last film you watched, mate!

Going the Distance

Charlie Day was my favorite part of the movie. He did a great job.

This is England.

First up Jennifer's Body. As stupid as it was I enjoyed it. Some of the dialogue was pretty ridiculous, but I've come to expect that from Diablo Cody. She kinda tries too hard to be cool. It's roll your eyes kinda humour, but I never took it too seriously so it was all good.

Then The Ramen Girl. Like The Karate Kid, but with noodles. It was OK. :\

Something about Brittany Murphy turns me on. She's not one of those "Omigod so hot just fuck me NAO!!" types, but yeah, I'd hit it.

I've got a string of the Fangoria Frightfest flicks to work my way through. Today, we watched

Fragile (2006)

Fragile-movie-2.jpg

Ghost story of sorts, but very well done and quite enjoyable, IMO. Quality filming with the lighting and minimal effects, working more to scare you with the subtle but strong music. Calista Flockheart is the lead, and honestly the only name I recognize, and it was a bit weird to watch a scene with her yelling "Fuck! FUCK! FUCK! No, god damnit - FUCK!" (She was distraught, not horny, but still....c'mon, Ally McBeal doesn't curse  ).

Not so awesome on the wrap up, but not a cheap cop out either - just par for the course. But I wondered why I was a bit tense during the last 20 minutes (I was watching while doing some work, and noticed how I was sitting, and how my muscles were for my arms and such)....movie was doing a good job of holding my interest and, while not scaring me per se (no wai), it was at least doing it's job of being a horror flick ;) Thumbs up.

Just watched Memento, and before that Zack & Miri Make a Porno.

Memento is so damn good.

Last night I watched Cake Eaters and Control.

Both were good.
I thought Kristen Stewart did a really great job in CE.

Sam Riley, and Samantha Morton did an INCREDIBLE job in Control- the movie was very well done. I reallllly liked it.

I'd recommend both but Control takes the Cake ;)

Stayed up to watch this last night not realising that I'd actually seen it in it's entirety before.

I thought I'd only caught the first half hour before, but yeah, that's probably cuz it's a bit forgettable I suppose. Aside from the awesome ensemble cast that is.

I thought the story was okay, albeit a creative concept .. I guess we all had that 'what if' moments.
3/5

Fangoria Frightfest - The Tomb (aka Legia) (2009)

Where to begin? Star power.....low. Two names I know are Michael Madsen and Eric Roberts, both relegated to very small roles, so other than name recognition there was no 'power' to them. Other actors? Well, the guy seems like he's out of a soap opera, the two chics are semi-hot, but there isn't enough steaminess to make that the reason to watch the flick. Now, one plays the fiance, the other is the seductress, but both overplay their roles poorly, IMO. Storyline? Well, the supernatural is generally cool with me, and that means our core theme (immortality) is old and used...and I'm not seeing much to raise interest in the 'is it feasible' category, it's just thrown out and accepted, kinda. No real development to the science or ghostiness of it. So, yeah, story....meh. Filming and effects.....meh. Sets were decent, but effects are better on the Scyfy channel.

Not enough sexiness to be worth watching for skin. Not enough acting to make it worth watching for that. Not enough story to make it worth watching for 'interesting' or even 'horror/gotcha'. Bottom line, not enough to make this worth watching. Skip it.

The Ghost Writer

the-ghost-writer-movie-poster-1020539689.jpg

- An unremarkable ghost-writer has landed a lucrative contract to redact the memoirs of Adam Lang, the former UK Prime Minister. After dominating British politics for years, Lang has retired with his wife to the USA. He lives on an island, in luxurious, isolated premises complete with a security detail and a secretarial staff. Soon, Adam Lang gets embroiled in a major scandal with international ramifications that reveals how far he was ready to go in order to nurture UK's "special relationship" with the USA. But before this controversy has started, before even he has closed the deal with the publisher, the ghost-writer gets unmistakable signs that the turgid draft he is tasked to put into shape inexplicably constitutes highly sensitive material.

i enjoyed it. 8/10.

i remember watching that movie, it was alright i guess but i could never figure out why the fuck it took so long for them to kill off nancy though

Fangoria Frightfest - Hunger (2009)
imdb said:
Hunger is a dark exploration into the breakdown of humanity. How far would you go to survive in the most extreme of circumstances? Five strangers awaken to find themselves trapped in an underground dungeon. They soon realize they are the subjects of one man's sadistic experiment to test the depths of a human being's will to survive. As the days go by with no means of escape, their hunger increases as their humanity fades away

So, yeah....this one was actually decent. Minimal set, which is fine, given the situation. Acting was decent, nothing cheesy, nothing that sent me home raving either. But, I would recommend this one, for sure. Not "omigod" but a pretty good time investment, IMO. The plot summary above shows the meat (no pun intended ;) ) of the storyline. We have a person who set up the experiment whom we see in passing clips while he's observing the test subjects, but it mingles in flashbacks to why he's doing this, what effected him to the point of trapping people and testing them this way. Now, none of this gets real deep or makes you think much (though you can obviously ask yourself how far you would go in such a situation). The characters have a few twists in the story, but on a scale of 1-10 for wtf curveballs, they are mostly a 2-3 rating; which is to say, there isn't anything real surprising in this either....with that said, everything is realistic and acceptable as 'it could happen that way'.

A little sex, but nothing really 'skin' worthy. Gory, a little, but it isn't a driving factor in the film, they do a lot of the cannibal work off-screen. Though, the gory bit supports the main thrust of the film - the psychological 'push to the limits' for survival in a small confined space. The true eat or be eaten situation :D

Don't ask for a lot from this, and you'll get enough to make it worth your while.

The 3d fusion camera system was incredible! I love the way they used the high and low angles- very 'trippy'. The movie was none stop action and I expected nothing else(after all the shit the Umbrella Corporation did , it was payback time and Alice comes knocking).
7/10
