Looking for some more quality TV to watch atm.

My list (no particular order re quality)

1. Soprano's
2. Deadwood
3. Big Love
4. Curb your Enthusiasm
5. The Wire

May be more but that's off the top of my head. So what else can people recommend? We don't get HBO over here so can be hard to find new stuff to download *ahem* I mean purchase from Amazon. Saw True Blood recently but not impressed, seemed like teeny bopper vampire porn to me. But any quality out there that I am missing out on would love to hear about it. Guess it doesn't HAVE to be HBO, but ust of that level of quality.

Band Of Brothers is one of the best things ive ever seen

Prison Break is also good

Showtime is just as good as HBO. I enjoy Dexter, Hung, Breaking Bad, and my all time favorite show is six feet under.

YEah, Dexter and Breaking Bad never floated my boat in the way HBO dramas have, might check out hung if you think its worth it...

And OZ, ho hum, but rome had forgotten avout but heard good things, thanks Kyc.

Was John Adams good? Only saw snippets but looked woth its while

Six Feet Under was by and large, one of the best TV series I've seen.

I'd second Band of Brothers--caught that again over the holidays. I've heard good things about Californication but have yet to check it out (this may be showtime though...)

i thought it wasn't that great. good idea on paper with a great cast but, for me, it never realised its promise.

if you liked those hbo series, you would probably enjoy the tudors and rome.

also, i just got done watching battlestar galactica and it's, for me, as engaging as anything i've seen on hbo.

alasdair

I loved the John Adams mini-series. I also love American Revolutionary history. The acting was superb. Especially Laura Linney as Abigail Adams.

Is Carnivàle HBO? It's 10 shades of awesome :)

Seconding the Sopranos, Deadwood, Rome, and The Wire too. All entertaining with high production values. I've also been watching the Tudors recently after someone mentioned it here (ocean?).

My favorite shows.... Not necessarily hbo, first and foremost the wire , followed by Dexter , breaking bad , sons of anarchy and weeds

What's Sons of Anarchy about?

I've been watching the first few episodes of Rome, ws initially underwhelmed by the script but it's grown on me, and I do like the strict adherence to historical fact - it's the little things like the crude graffiti that work imo.

I'm waiting for Season 3 of Big Love to be delivered from Amazon atm

Sons of Anarchy is fucking awesome. I think it's highly underrated and I suspect people simply haven't given it a chance due to the subject matter. I didn't until my neighbor basically made me sit through an episode. It's about a motorcycle 'club' (hugh gang network) in California. The acting, plot, directing etc. are all incredible. I highly recommend it. :)

Well most of you are naming non-HBO shows also(which most are good IMO), but as far as THE best HBO dramas are concerned:

1)Six Feet Under
2)The Wire
3)Oz

Breaking Bad and Dexter are also non-HBO shows that are amazing!!

Six Feet Under surpasses all other television.
The Sopranos was good, but it went on too long, became a soap opera and I lost interest.
Curb Your Enthusiasm isn't a drama.
Deadwood is terrible.
Fuck this thread.
I'm drunk.

No one will tell me what Sons of Anarchy is about., it MUST be good.

Rejected recommendations:

*Oz - OK, but doesn't shine imo, the script is weak as are the cast
*Battlestar Galactica (wtf?) - I hate sci fi
*True Blood - Cheap, crappy vampire porn for teenagers
*6ft Under - yeah, is good, but surpasses everything??? Comig from someone who thinks deadwood is shit really makes me question your judgment. But, benefit of the doubt (and I remember the odd episode I've seen has been good), will add it to my list.

Keep em coming!

Oh snap, that Carnivale link looks awesome, I remember someone (now passed RIP) recomending it a few years back, might have to look a little further into that.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Big Love yet, just finished S3 and pleased to see S4 starts tonight/tomorrow! :thumbsu:
