Oxycodone, Cocaine and Xanax combination information

I realize this thread is older, but since I've only now experienced oxy and xanax together (with severely drastic results,) I thought I'd share. After Total Ankle Reconstructive surgery - which was done outpatient - I had a script for 5mg oxy, which I took one of immediately following the surgery. Over 12 hours later, I took 2mg xanax, which I also had a script for (the nurse at the hospital where the surgery was done 'missed' telling me that the two were contraindicated.) In less than 5 hours after taking the xanax, my blood pressure dropped severely and my entire right side went numb with paresthesia. and I went from sleeping to unconscious. (After this I don't have an exact timeline, so times are approximated.) Less than an hour after my drop in blood pressure, I had a hypoxic episode, which cut off the flow of oxygen to my brain but fortunately - at that time - fell from the bed I was in, getting the attention of the people around me, who were unable to wake me. At the ER, I went in and out of consciousness and spent 3 days straight in the ICU - with no memory of that time. After being discharged from the ICU I spent another 6 days in the hospital. My entire right side, from my scalp down to the tips of my toes was paresthetic. And I'd lost 65% of my hearing! For two months after that, 24/7, I had excruciating nerve pain in my right foot and the outer part of my right hand was still permanently paresthetic. My hearing is not expected to return - but I was thankfully able to get fitted for digital hearing aids - which has restored my hearing to 90% (and more than 90% and my hearing 'fuzzes out' like a loud stereo with a lot of static.) The nerve pain and the neuropathies in my right side continued with even a daily dose on 1500mg gabapentin. And it was only after being prescribed 300mg/daily of Lyrica that the nerve pain went away. The out part of my right hand (my 4th finger and little finger are still paresthetic,) but at least the nerve pain is gone. The neuropathy in the right side of my scalp, my glutes and my right leg went down with the Lyrica (but if any part of them itches, it's virtually impossible to scratch as there's still a layer of numbness between the skin and the nerves.) I've had two MRIs of my brain and each time the Audio looks perfectly fine. I'm now at the leading hospital in LA but even there, they have no Hearing Specialist. The Neurologist Specialist I'm seeing proposed that the hearing loss was a Sensorineural Hearing Loss, which is a hearing loss caused by damage to the nerve from the ear to the brain - which is an injury common to hypoxia. I'm just posting this here to warn anyone who either is taking oxy and xanax together or has questions about doing it, so the same thing that happened to me doesn't happen to anyone else.

Damn dude.

I’m glad you’re alive, and I mean that in all sincerity.

Stories like this always make me realize what a dumbass I am, for doing some of the drugs combos I’ve done before.

It’s crazy that such a low dose of oxy, such a long elapsed time before the Xanax, and a pretty typical dosage of Xanax, caused such an extreme reaction.

Really makes a person realize that this harm reduction advice has a purpose. And even though “it’s never happened to me” doesn’t mean it can’t.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Your words are honestly appreciated. The surgeon who prescribed the oxy said he'd given it to other patients who were also on benzos before without incident - but if you look up the two drugs, there's info everywhere about how they're contraindicated. Most MDs I saw immediately after had nothing at all to offer and it wasn't until I got into the top hospital in LA that the Neurologist was able to explain that the hypoxia was due to an extreme drop in blood pressure. But even he was surprised at the low dosage and elapsed time. I've had a lot of drug experiences in my life and this was the first (and hopefully only) one that's ever done any damage.

Sebastiana718 I'm glad that you survived your experience! Ive been on Hydromorph and Percocet plus Clonazapam for 15 years. I'm grateful that I haven't had your experience. It sounded pretty scary! Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
