NPS Act V1. Blankets? Just Say No!

I've written back to 38 Degrees to ask firstly whether they would accept such a petition and also to enquire as to whether or not Government petitions can bring down personal harassment and such like on the people who start them. I don't want to set off fireworks in my life and have a child to consider.

Quote: From Chatative :-I'm not necessarily saying it's the better of two evils, but I don't really think they have a huge choice. Although of course they could take a lot more time over it & implement it in some way that does the least harm if nothing else.

I agree with this but that is not the situation at the present time and this Law needs blocking until it's sensible not create a more dangerous situation than already exists. I think the Government have only allowed another vote on our exit from he EU because they are determined to scrap the Human Rights Law...It's all becoming too dangerous. I know they rode roughshod over the coalition but at least there was some kind of buffer there at times.

Well, after we rip up the treaties that are the only thing obliging the Continentals -- who, in case you don't realise, abso-fucking-lutely hate the British with a passion -- to play nicely with us, we'll be trade-sanctioned into oblivion and "legal highs" are going to be far from anyone's mind. Why would the Germans not sell us cars? ask the pro-Brexit MPs ..... Because they hate us that much!

I'm fairly sure the Dutch are quite fond of the pill-popping e-tards on that rainy lil' island. ;)

So far as that's true i'd say it's probably well-earned hatred, considering our position in control of the global financial system and our tax evasion/money laundering practices - as it is, i'd say the leaders of the european countries are mostly just as bad. If the UK could 'brexit' from the city of london, europe as a whole would probably be better disposed to us (although we'd then be a 'developing country'). Speaking of which, haven't we got a druggie-based EU referendum thread yet? (i'm still undecided but tend towards the brexit (for socialist reasons))

Perhaps one of the mods could create a thread with a poll (can they be multiple choice and have more than one question?) on this subject, asking buelighters resident in the UK questions along the lines of :

1a) Do you take only legal highs?
1b) Do you take legal highs and illegal drugs?
1c) Do you take no recreational drugs atall?

2a) If you only take currently legal highs, will you stop taking those drugs after the new law comes into force?
2b) If you only take currently legal highs, will you continue to take them by attempting to source them from the black market?
2c) If you only take currently legal highs, will you switch to buying more traditional illegal drugs such as MDMA, Cocaine, Amphetamine, Cannabis etc?

To be honest, does anyone know if there is an organisation that works with bluelight that might be able to conduct a properly designed survey on this matter? I could add many more pertitent questions to this list, like did you seek medical advice, are you worried about what will happen if you are dependent on some of these drugs, did you create and follow a tapering regime to wean yourself off them, did you manage to stop successfully, and so on........

One simple, straightforward poll that could be done in EADD could simply ask

'In anticipation of the upcoming ban on legal highs, as someone who uses these drugs, did you buy more than usual to create a personal stockpile for future use after the ban?'

Unfortunately that may be a bit of a sensistive question for some people and I don't know if they would respond. I would love to see the data though. I have no doubt that this is what happened when they banned substances like mephedrone in the past, and that law had little impact on the available of mephedrone which continutes to be a very popular drug in the uk on the blackmarket to this day.

One thing seems straightforward to me - there is potential for a lot of people to come to harm if this law is enacted and our health services are already under huge pressure, it is easy to imagine some very bad scenarios that could unfold.

Either way, this government is causing a lot of damage to the country in all sorts of ways, serving the only interests of themselves, their donors, lobbyists, cronies, appeasing the gutter press, and do not give a flying fuck about the rest of us. Their actions over the past year speak of total contempt for the general public, producing policy after policy based simply on dictatorial political ideology, it is not a rational approach to leading a country and the bastards must be reigned in soon before they completely destroy everything.

Hearing that andy burnham will not oppose the bill makes my blood boil, what the fuck is he doing in the opposition party if he doesn't have the balls to stand up to this dreadful tory government?

Gimme 5 mins Ceres and I'll have a chat with Dr. Tronica, if I may Sproutify the basis of her work: dis her shit. :)

So are poppy seeds/pods and nutmeg going to be illegal too? What a load of horse shit this blanket ban is.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/acmd-review-of-alkyl-nitrites-poppers

today the ACMD issued advice to the government concluding that poppers are not psychoactive therefore would not be banned under the new psychoactives bill.

faced with the scientific facts., the question is, will the government listen, and will this expose their contempt for scientific advisory bodys if they choose to ignore the ACMDs advice?

What a load of hypocritical bullshit. If isobutyl nitrate isn't considered to be 'psychoactive', then neither should half of the wank and ineffectual RCs that have been released over the last decade. I don't like the stuff myself - sickly head pounding shite (though proper amyl nitrite is fantastic), but it definitely provides a rush so deserves to be banned as much as anything else. Is this a result of pressure from gay people in 'high' places (pun intended ;) )? Tbh, I don't get the whole 'poppers and poopshoot' thing. My Mrs has never needed poppers to take it up the shitter! ;)

I dont doubt you brother..

Actually the activity of Amyl Nitrite (NOT Amyl Nitrate, unless you're moonlighting as an ageing combustion engine, I don't judge... ;) ) is quite the quirky lil' mechanism, when it is applied to the legislative terminology of the aforementioned anti-scientific, fascistic, idiotic, and frankly arseholic piece of piss-poor political power play, it publicises the logical abyss that it has its gaseous golden penile parts all up in. ;)

So an MP declares he uses poppers and they shouldn't be on the bill. Low and behold there is talk they are not on the bill. This just sums up our "democracy". Makes me sick to the core that such blatant floutation of power and authority is seen as acceptable.

The MP doesn't fight the bill he just makes sure his own personal supply is not affected.

The skeletal Alkyl Nitrites were never gonna suffer the full effects, they're a legitimate medicinal option but not explicitly valued by the pharmaceutical big boys, have actually undergone the tox. trials that oh so conveniently do not materialise as promised under the TCDO procedure, demonstrated toxicity when "ingested" in its strict definition but remain appreciably well-tolerated when "misused" via inhalation, it's actually debatable (and is subject to academic venture) whether they are technically "psychoactive" - directly ramping up plasma Nitric Oxide concentration has central effects as a secondary result rather than penetrating the BBB to actively modulate neurosynapses.

Has the formula changed since the early 90s? From my own experience of way to many nights with a bottle under my nose in the rave it was one hell of a dirty high with horrible headaches and the feeling of brain cells being destroyed in their millions. After one particularly heavy night in 93 where I managed to snort some liquid after being bumped into I would not go anywhere near it again.

From what I can gather the stuff we used to get in the 90's was isobutyl nitrate, which has been subsequently banned. I think most poppers on sale now contain isopropyl nitrate as the active ingredient.

From my experience the effects are identical. Its not a sensation I find particularly pleasant on its own, but as a potentiator in other situations I still find them class, such as amphetamine assisted shagging sessions or to give those pills a booster come 4am when ur out dancing.

Read my post again Sprite ;) I said nitrite, not nitrate. Put yer specs back on..

(Fuck, I've just put mine back on and realised I'd typed isobutyl nitrate - I blame autocorrect. Anyhoo, I did at least say 'amyl nitrite')

I knew a guy that died from drinking a load of butyl or isobutyl nitrite. Not that toxicity will matter in this case. As long as some turd *of an* MP wants it exempted, so shall it be...

UK Blanket Ban Delayed - but by how long? [2 comments]
Thursday, 17 March 2016 11:11:42 Europe/London

For the last week there have been rumours on Twitter that the UK's Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 will not commence on the 6th April, and whilst there is still no public announcement on the Home Office website, I feel that I have enough information to make the call - there is going to be a delay but we don't know how long for.

The BBC's Home Editor, Mark Easton, has said on twitter that he had to "wheedle" the information out of the Home Office and there is a delay of at least a month, and 3 weeks notice will be given to Parliament of it commencing.

Additionally, a source in local government sent us this copy/paste extract from a communication they received from the Home Office:

"We expect to commence the Psychoactive Substances Act in the spring, subject to work with partners including the devolved administrations. We need to ensure the readiness of all the activity necessary to enable the smooth implementation of the legislation and to support law enforcement in their ability to drive forward the legislation on commencement.

While 6 April was the first date on which the legislation could be commenced, it has always been subject to consideration of all the activity necessary across the UK for the provisions to come into force.

We are looking to give 21 days’ notice of the commencement date which is when Parliament will also be informed."

I have also been told by other well placed contacts that a delay of at least a month is on the cards. And I've heard from one other source that it could be delayed until maybe even October, but I would not put too much hope on that at this stage.

We knew exactly how terribly this would pan out from day one, it's fun watching the legislature-lizards squirm as they figure it out though. ;)

The 32 law has to be the stupidest one ever. Most big towns have at least 10 pharmacies so "HYPOTHETICALLY" you and 5 mates go in and legally buy 1 box each twice a week. At the end of the month you have over 100 grams of legally bought codeine (and the mother of all CWEs to do!!).....fuxking stupid. Fair enough depending on how expensive the chemist is it cold cost nearly a grand so not really cost effective but You get my drift.......

I cab see both points of view here having had a codeine addiction. The pharmacists hace a duty of care n I'm sure don't wish tl annoy people but I suppose ifvthey sudpected somelne of abuse n then discovered that, that person had iODd or even kiked themself, how bad would they feel? Not everyone is aware of cold water extraction n recovery sites tebd to discourage advise of this sort.

You are right in that people temd to work the system so it's a catch 22 situation.

Who said that about 16 para tabs? Is that new because wgen I ODd last year most alliwed me two packs of 16 500mf paracetamol. Mo mote as I did try but I definitely got spld two lots in each shop I went to.

Edit
