To make a long story as short as possible I will start by simply saying that I was treated for chronic pain for nearly a decade. The usual, everything from hydrocodone to fentanyl. It managed things, I suppose, but through that time I switched meds and doctors many times. I withdrew from oxycodone of some sort dozens of times, sometimes requiring help from suboxone and other various resources.
After nearly a decade my pain subsided. It was a miracle and I was ready to get back to life, but it was not to be.
The last med I was on was a long acting form of oxycodone called xtampza, or deterx. It was supposed to be merely just a tamper proof form of oxycodone. I quit using xtampza almost cold Turkey (90mg a day) thinking I would just go through withdrawal one last time. It was not to be. The withdrawals for this beast seemed to last forever. A few weeks later I decided to taper. This is where things get strange.
Normally when you take a little bit of medication it relieves symptoms, standard for opiates.
If i took a small amount to relieve symptoms I GOT EXTREMELY HIGH!
Has this ever happened to anyone? I cannot find any reference anywhere on the internet. At all.
I was at a point where about 1/1000 of a milligram would get me high. Literally a spec of dust from a cracked oxycodone pill.
Have any of you ever experienced this?
This went on for nearly a year. I needed something to ease the withdrawals, but taking smaller and smaller amounts kept getting me high instead of helping. One time I accidentally took a little too much (still measured in thousandths of mgs) and was high as s kite for over 7 hours.
It was over a year before I could take a 10mg oxycodone and have it feel like a 10mg oxycodone pill.
At that point all withdrawal symptoms went away except for a tingling in my hands, which has always been the first sign of withdrawal for me over the years. I went for months without taking anything hoping I would heal further but I havent.
All this time I had bottles of leftover pills in my safe. Taking a few here or there relieved symptoms instantly.
This is where my new problems come in. Convincing anyone this is opiate related is impossible. My pain dr. flat out calls me a liar, and anyone new I see, well, you can probably imagine just thinks I'm looking for drugs.
A psychiatrist at the hospital suggested suboxone, but 3 suboxone dr.'a refused to treat me because, and this pissed me off, I wasn't an addict.
My only choices as it seems are to get pills off the street, lie to the local doctors and say I have an addiction (shameful on them)or suicide.
Any thoughts? Please help if you can...
