ENFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) - Police are investigating an over-the-weekend drug heist at a Connecticut warehouse filled with prescription drugs. Investigators say it appears a group of people broke into the building and stole up to $75 million worth of narcotics.

What looks to be a large non-descript brown building back in the woods in Enfield, Connecticut is a transportation hub of sorts for prescription drug company Eli Lilly .

The big brown building was broken into over the weekend. Someone cut a hole in the roof and repelled inside stealing somewhere between $50-$75 million worth in drugs; the largest theft in the town's history.

"The hole was very high up and there was no way they you would be able to leap to the floor," said Police Chief Carl Sferrazza of the Enfield Police Dept. "I don't want to get into the specific evidence that we found there but we believe that is how they gain entry into the building."

Police are still collecting evidence and trying to figure how much of what drugs were stolen; sources close to the investigation say about 70 pallets of prescriptions were taken.

"We don't have a list of exactly what they took; there are pain killers involved; all prescription drugs -- that is the kind of narcotics that are housed there," said Chief Sferrazza.

Police say the thieves may have gone in through the roof but they probably left out the back door at the loading docks because they needed at least one-semi tractor trailer [maybe even two] to get the drugs out. Police say these guys knew what they were doing.

"The evidence the officers found, this does not appear that it is one or two individuals that committed this burglary; it appears to be a well-organized and large-scale operation," said Chief Sferrazza.

Federal authorities will be meeting Tuesday morning to go over what happened and to try to figure out who committed this crime.

Anyone who may have witnessed anything is asked to contact the Enfield Police Dept. at (860) 763-8918.

I didn't think eli lilly had any opiates, but I would've gone for humatrope. that's shit's rediculously expensive; I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that's what they were after.

70 pallets of opiates?! That is fucking insane! I am assuming it was opiates because it refers to the drugs as narcotics but the media and police do have a habit of referring to any old drug as a narcotic.

70 pallets of drugs. ho lee shit.

I used to work at a pharmaceutical warehouse when I was strung out on heroin...I used to walk past dozens of shelves of schedule 2 drugs and about 12 pallets of hydrocodone/oxycodone stacked 6 ft high each in order to punch in each morning... Lemme tell ya it was a rough walk...all that separated me from the pills was a steel mesh fencing. It was the size of your average gas station....filled with controlled substances. :!

I'm not really surprised, at my old warehouse it would have been fairly easy to pull off something like this (besides the massive amount of pills you'd have to carry out of there)...Or just intercept a truck on the way to delivery. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.

I am feeling a trend lol.

Genius idea. I doubt these criminals will be caught as I am sure they already had buyers lined up. It would be interesting if they stole stuff besides the typical drugs sold on the streets. I wonder who would buy so much of those drugs if they weren't opiates/benzos/stims. If it was simply expensive drugs for non-recreational purposes, I wonder if they are going to be shipped overseas. I can't imagine being able to unload $50 million (lets not believe the popo's high figure lol) worth of prescription medications in America and not be noticed unless it is on the street.

Eli Lilly produces the following recreational drugs:

Methadone
Darvocet
Seconal (Formerly)

As well these pharms have a market for them via web: Cialis, Prozac, and Cymbalta.

If I were doing the theft I would go for these ones. However all of this is just speculation, I have no clue what actually happened.

70 pallets of prescription drugs sounds like a lot more than 75 million bucks once you start talking about street prices. I think that maybe since this is a commodity with a documented and standardized price, maybe the 75 million dollar figure is actually just accurate to the wholesale value of the product according to Eli Lilly. If so, the thieves are set for life. Hell, they're set for life if "75 million" is wildly inflated. That's a FUCKTON of drugs.

That's weird because I just read an article that specifically said there weren't any narcotics stored there.

I wouldnt even touch the controlled shit, humatrope costs like $2000 for 500mg of HGH that's way more than any controlled substance can touch.

Holy Shit!

70 pallets is no joke. 75 million is obviously a street value figure. No way could you make that much selling pallets of Darvocet or Cialis.

I guess at some point they sell the pills by boxes, maybe by weight. Wholesale is pretty cheap, 10,000 pills gets you some sort of bulk discount; I'd imagine.

^^^Well as we all know Darvocet is complete garbage, in fact I was offered a whole bottle of that shit for free and told the person to keep it

From the source:

"I would just say pharmaceutical product that's somewhat across our portfolio but it's important to note that there were no controlled substances or narcotics at that facility and none were taken," said Sagabiel.

No good drugs, they took something expensive but not fun...

Yeah that's odd, stealing 75 Million USD worth of non-recreational drugs? They obviously have some deeper intention. I'd imagine they're smuggling it overseas somewhere and selling it en mass to online pharmacies and poorer countries. Something like that...

It would be remarkable if they were stealing these drugs to sell bulk for cheap all over the world to actually HELP people, as in africa, almost anyone who is really sick that needs medicine cannot possibly afford it. Wouldnt be suprised if they were stealing anti-HIV medications to sell on the market. Im not jumping to conclusions though. Anyone know anything about this. I mean, if people are willing to travel to another country to purchase their needed medicines, why not order them in bulk? With this kind of operation, i can easily see ordinary people mistaking theives for credible drug dispensers. These guys know what they are doing. (non)Recreational Robin Hood 4tw

Good Times

In the US, Lilly makes neither secobarbital nor propoxyphene nor methadone.

In fact, they don't make a single controlled substance in the states.

FDA-approved manufacturers of methadone include and are limited to malinckrodt, the pharmanetwork, roxane, sandoz, vistapharm and xanodyne pharm.

FDA-approved manufacturers of propoxyphene include and are limited to concord labs nj, cornerstone, heritage pharms inc, mylan, teva, vintage pharms, xanodyne pharm, west ward and wockhardt.

FDA-approved manufacturers of secobarbital include and are limited to ranbaxy.

According to Lilly, the stolen drugs included olanzapine, duloxetine and fluoxetine. However, they didn't say the heist was limited to those three worthless pieces of shit drugs.

If you guys are into company rumors, go to where Lilly employees anonymously talk shit.

Anyone have a clue what the point of this heist was? I'd love to know.
