Head of DEA slams Obama for saying marijuana is no more dangerous than alcohol

DEA head Michele Leonhart is infuriated by President Obama telling the New Yorker that marijuana is less harmless than alcohol

She said 'her lowest point' more than three decades at the DEA was when a hemp flag was flown over the Capitol last July 4

President Obama made his divisive comments during a recent New Yorker Magazine interview

The nation’s drug enforcement czar disagrees with President Barack Obama about the dangers of smoking marijuana.
Drug Enforcement Administration head Michele M. Leonhart supposedly told a recent closed-door sheriff’s conference that she isn’t happy with the federal government’s willingness to allow states to legalize the plant.

Leonhart expressed her frustration with the country’s increasingly relaxed attitude towards marijuana in the wake of President Obama recently telling the New Yorker he doesn’t think it’s dangerous.

Acting DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart, pictured at a 2009 news conference, is upset with President Obama over recent moves to allow marijuana legalization

She’s frustrated for the same reasons we are, Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson told the Boston Herald. “She said she felt the administration didn’t understand the science enough to make those statements.

‘She [also] said her lowest point in 33 years in the DEA was when she learned they’d flown a hemp flag over the Capitol on July 4,’ Hodgson continued.

‘The sheriffs were all shocked, this is the first time in 28 years I’ve ever heard anyone in her position be this candid.'

She was also infuriated that the White House played a softball game with a ‘pro-legalization group,’ Hodgson added.

Her pot shots at the president were not made in public, but they came after recent comments he made to the New Yorker raised more than a few eyebrows.

‘I view it as a bad habit and a vice, not very different from the cigarettes that I smoked as a young person up through a big chunk of my adult life,’ said the President.

‘I don’t think it is more dangerous than alcohol,’ he continued, adding that he believes it is even less damaging ‘in terms of its impact on the individual consumer.’

The flag was flown at the urging of Colorado Rep Jared Polis (D) and made of industrial hemp. It was not illegal.

The Obama Administration announced last summer it would no longer seek to stop states from legalizing recreational marijuana.

The President's evolving stance may just be a reflection of the country as a whole – almost 60 per cent of American’s are in favour of legalization, according to Gallup – but that doesn’t sit well with Leonhart.

‘This is a woman who has spent 33 years of her life fighting drug abuse in the DEA, her entire life,’ Kern County, Calif., Sheriff Donny Youngblood explained.

‘To have the president of the United States publicly say marijuana was a bad habit like alcohol was appalling to everyone in that room.

‘I think the way that she felt was that it was a betrayal of what she does for the American people in enforcing our drug laws. ... She got a standing ovation,’ he added.

Authorities have long contended marijuana is a gateway drug that leads to more serious addictions like cocaine, heroin and more, Hodgson explained. Having the President make those remarks sends children mixed signals.

‘The last person we need saying this to kids is the president of the United States.’

A source told the Herald Leonhart may lose her job over the comments, but a spokesperson made an attempt to clarify them in an email to the Huffington Post.
'With regards to the Herald story, I think its important to clarify that the Administrator's remarks were not at against the President, as the story portrays, but continued messages that the DEA is not in support of legalization -- and neither is the Administration.'

Fucking hilarious the dumbfuck DEA is attempting to speak about science, since when have those mentally deficient fucks ever attempted to use science in regards to chemicals except when it's bullshit propaganda?!?

A lot of people are calling for Leonhart to get fired, there's even a change.org petition, for whatever that's worth. Honestly, she should lose her job. How many people do you know that have called their boss incompetent in the national news and kept their job? Her refusal to update her policies based on changing social norms shows that she is not capable of performing her job.

Yeah well, I am sure there were people that did not want to give up slavery either. But they had to because the times are changing towards more freedom.

Surely there has to be a better job than kicking in doors of peaceful plant growers. Anyone can see that. Most people want cannabis legalized and we will see the money speak for itself.

Michele M. Leonhart does NOT have any up to date factual info on Cannabis. That being said I think she should be forced to eat a steaming hot dog shit sandwich

I think she should be made to smoke a wee spliff & listen to One Love!

The poor woman nealy shat out a penis when they flew a hemp flag? Poor dumb bitch, it's HEMP, not HERB! Jeez!

She's anxious about the herb thing, & because of her 30 year tolerance, she's banging the valium like there's no tomorrow... Also, she's hungover!

This coming from the same space cadet of a woman who wouldn't comment on whether marijuana is less harmful than heroin.

At least be honest about your concerns. You're concerned that all that extra money you pigs are making from seizing countless people's property is gonna go bye bye soon. Well I say it's about time.

Exactly. Hasn't there been numerous studies suggesting cannabis possesses medicinal properties? For a substance to remain a Schedule I or Schedule II substance, it must 1) have no medical use AND 2) have a high potential for abuse. That's an and not an or! :!

These lying liars are making me thirsty. Someone who doesn't have my email REALLY needs to send this to these criminals with a big cup of sperm and STFU.

^Thanks MGS. Seems to me any one of those studies should have resulted in the rescheduling of cannabis. The ball should have started rolling the minute the first study was peer-reviewed.

How can the federal government expect us to have any respect for them whatsoever when they can't be bothered to follow their own laws?

From how unhealthy she looks I think she does indeed need some grass.
She looks like she has been freebasing drug war propaganda for weeks.. this just may have been the cause of this outburst.. drug war psycoses.. she better get some help.

I'm quite positive that 'science' insists that it's next to physically impossible to overdose on weed...and, for that matter, worldwide, there is no data that weed solely has led to anyone's death, simply as a result of having smoked too much weed.

Besides, I'm still convinced that all opiates/downers in general can automatically be seen as having some level of medicinal properties when applied in the proper environment...I think the scheduled drug discussion only really comes into play mainly with uppers, which MIGHT have medical use (like with ADD, to an extent) for some, but not for all. It's not like your grandma in the nursing home needs a hit of coke, but some weed or morphine goes a long way to pain reduction.

This woman's ignorance is revealed in someone's link to a 2012 thread about her where she just states that "all illegal drugs are bad." OK, clearly, we are dealing with someone who lives by the letter of the law to the point that she really doesn't care what you have to say - opinions, shit, even facts, are useless to her - if it's in the law books, that's it, end of fucking discussion.

Personally, every single one of my 'bad' drug experiences came from a legal drug - Adderall, Vyvanse, Focalin, etc. Weed has never given me issues, mostly due to the first point I made - you can't overdose on it. That alone is why weed should be legalized - even when you're in a full druggie mode and all you want is to get high, well, shit, at least you won't hurt yourself physically just by smoking weed.

Not to mention, yeah, this top DEA agent looks fucked up...and to think that this thread started with how she was pissed off that the president said weed was less dangerous than alcohol????...people like her and her lot are the reason that potheads can actually get angry.

How can she be upset? What a fucking bitch.

I forget where I heard it, but I did hear a policeman say once

"Listen, I just enforce the law. If y'all don't agree with the law, then you can CHANGE the law, and I will enforce that."

Well said, but it sounds like this drug czar puppet bullshit artist wouldn't have a clue that she is supposed to enforce the law of the people, not because her opinion is that drugs are bad.
