Gibberings CXCV - Back in the day we'd change a thread title and it'd stay changed

This is what the BL servers looked like the last time I saw them:

8Hp43Po.jpg

They're all visualised on an parallel array of 3M Z180 processors cooled with Tizer these days and all the CAT5 cables are now in a deep shade of series pink, the whole lot is run off a 300 Volt direct current switch mode power supply which is directly wired to all door handles in the hardware location......those engineers just can't let it go %)

Was that via his low battery Ipad whilst hiding in a large flower pot in Belise ?

:D yep!

The gist of it was he was about to unravel a big mystery that would impact the drug using community more than I could ever imagine.

I'm still waiting, John :p

Stuffmonger is a genuine BL legend, my ovenware has never been the same since those days

I see what you did there. ;)

TBH that pic makes me break out in a cold sweat, I'm a bit of a cable routing obsessiveness.

It does remind me of being shown a system that they wanted me to take responsibility for developing some 15 years back, it looked a bit like that but was just piled up on the floor with a pile of modems on the top and more wires than I could count and the whole lot was being run from 1 13amp socket that was all brown and distorted from overheating...dem were the days.

It's all blades and virtual machines these days where I work, the networks team are still a bunch of total fukin a holes though :)

I still have no clue what you're talking about. :D
You aren't the only one.

I blame the demise of vinyl LPs. You can skin up a decent party spliff on an album cover. You can even just about make a passable single king skin job on a CD cover. But these kids of today, with their downloads and their streaming and no ..... physical thing to hold and use as a surface for rolling joints, I hardly suppose it's any wonder that they are getting off on modern substances like 4-MMC, ID-10T ad K9P or whatever it's called these days.

Oh, and that's never a real Internet-facing server installation -- it's way too neat. You need at least one four-way 1363 with a kettle plug grafted onto it using insulation tape, and the ethernet cables are all the same colour and not sufficiently tangled.

King Skins are the short end of the wedge....yes even if they are blue ones.

Green Rizla (proper standard size) are the only answer, not only can you construct a multitude of shapes and sizes of smokables, you can tell which way round they are in the dark.

I no longer smoke but the ritual of spliff building is probably missed more than anything, one thing I could do regardless of the state I was in, on one occasion were I couldnt mange to skin up at an outdoor party that went on until gone 2pm on Sunday Mrs A wouldnt let me drive home, I didnt argue :D

Hey Jules, one of these days you're gonna understand the point/purpose/value of REDDIT.

Look: http://www.reddit.com/r/cableporn

:)

By that, I mean: you'll probably like that ^^^

Now there is some proper cabling there, way back I learnt the old school way of making wiring looms, wrapping them in a nylon cored rubber cable and kinda blanket stitching the various sections together. My first job was in high end Sat Comms, shitty wiring and cabling was just not on the cards.

That kind of installation is still common place in small businesses IME, Mrs A works for a decent mid sized firm who supply electronic components, their IT kit is a pile of shit, no proper back ups let alone DR, such things will bight you in the arse at some stage. They use some small IT support outfit, I swear I could do a better job and I'm really just a HW engineer by trade.

Where I work now the Server Room (more a data centre) is like a fukin operating theatre, we lost power to the building last week and the diesel generators fired up whilst we moved to the DR site, never missed a beat. No excuse for shoddy IT infrastructure these days IMO.......apologies for the sanctimonious BS, I'm a little obsessive about such stuff ;)

Although I do generally prefer a certain make of slim king size papers for everyday spliff-rolling purposes, I nonetheless like to keep my hand in with multiple-little-skin affairs -- if only because I forgot to buy any king skins. And I believe that I have served my time and paid my dues; the proudest moment probably being producing a number in the back seat of a moving vehicle, at speed and with no seat belts, which was gratefully accepted by the driver and other passengers. That was on the A30 Eastbound, somewhere around Yeovil .....

As a self-confessed occasional practitioner of tinfoil origami, I totally agree with you about the ritual aspects of drug-taking. In my younger days, we even went as far as having special mix tapes (younger readers -- ask your mother) for hash, speed and pills. Which had real ecstasy in them. And the summers lasted longer, and the weather was better. begins rambling incoherently about "the youth of today" and "back in my time" .....

The art of making a joint is one of dedication, I smoked daily for 15 years, mostly hash, probably the biggest drug love of my life.

I would keep cigarettes in the fridge to stop the tobacco from getting dry FFS, I used to use 3 rizla but the 3rd was just doubled over, wetted and then placed between the 2 that needed joining, remove doubled over one leaving the enough gum to hold the thing together. TBF as I used straights and due to were we went out contact with the police was quite common, a non roached pack of normal rizla was less of a reason to dig further than a roached pack of king skins.

I could skin up whilst driving with ease (seems a bit fukin stupid now), I suspect constantly doing whilst so fekered I could really see what I was doing and often in the dark anyhow taught me to skin up on blind faith. I gave it up with tobacco when we decided to try for kids, I do miss it. Probably the most sociable drug out there, sitting down and sharing a few smokes especially when out at a party talking total shite were golden moments.

Warrior... This is Earth Calling!

I've been trying to PM you mate, but I keep getting a message saying you've either chosen not to receive PMs or you're not permitted to.
Sort it aaht will ya? :)

Yeah, his wife doesn't let him receive PMs. That's what it means.

Ah, yes, transferring the wet glue from one paper to another. Something that seems impossible the first few times you try to do it, then suddenly it just works and you can't see how you could ever have got it wrong. Also, a source of (mass?) debate over whether or not a skin counted towards the total number used in a design if it was used only as a source of adhesive. (Of course it bloody well counts! You still have to take it out of the packet! You may only smoke five skins, but you still need to use six to roll the New Improved Scout in the first place. So it's still a Sixer. So :p )

One trick I never did manage was to roll "backwards", with the gum on the outside and nearest to you; then there would be exactly one thickness of paper all around, except for the four or five millimetres of overlap. I met a lad who always did this and then used to set light to the excess paper at the roach end; letting the flame travel all the way to the other end, the still-moist glue preventing it burning through; before whipping it around and toking on it at exactly the right time to ignite the tobacco-hash mix inside. The flash git.

I only did that to show off !, it is kinda satisfying that the paper tears away along the correct line as its slightly wet, mainly I couldn't be arsed with such fandanglery, I always inserted the roach after rolling as well, it's always interesting to see how others define the ritual.

I knew a few (real) rastas and they all seemed to manage to roll with one hand tipping weed and tobacco (although often just weed) into the hand they had the skins in, some mystery was then performed akin to slight of hand, the gum was licked and a joint appeared, an old friend Eddy was the master of that and often encouraged me to stop smoking tobacco, the weed of mammon :) this purity didnt extend to MDMA though which he was fine with and jumped about like a loon with the best of them
