^ My boyfriend had the same review.

I, on the other hand, LOVED Daniel Day Lewis' performance. He's great at being over the top and ridiculous yet somehow still believable on some level.

love the film

but i still feel that ddl's midway changing into bill cutting was too extreme. it should have been more gradual rather than a massive and permanent snap. to me the madman making threats and the climactic bludgeoning seem all too extreme and unnecessary.

^ I don't know, I feel you only got small snippets of ddl's character's life before the whole story of the Sundays. Who knows how many other people he threw in the mud and made threats to before he got there. ;) I got the feeling by the end of the movie that his whole backyard was full of bodies. Maybe you're right though... in particular, the threats to the other oilman seemed so extreme.

I didn't feel it as a 'massive and permanent snap' in his character change I felt Plainview was a malevolant and misanthropic character from the beginning on the film in my eyes. I doubt one even has empathy for him at all .

One of my all time favorites
I will never get bored with this film
