Just saw this little cracker of a movie yesterday.

*slight spoilers ahead*

Beautifully shot, clever and conservative use of digital efects (the scene where we first see Ivan in the car park... the shot of him looking through Trevor's jeep window... wow, just wow... the whole 2-dimensional effect really spooked me). Yeap, Bale lost a hell of a lot of weight to do the role justice, and he does give a great performance. I have to say that I agree that it isn't the most original concept for a film, but I guess that's because were all jaded with films like Fight Club and Memento. Had it been made five years ago, I'd imagine it would have been recieved quite differently.

Highly reccomended (4 out of 5)

watching this movie again and thought i would check here for comments, saw that one of you were mentioning the link to NIN, found this on wikipedia....

The name Trevor Reznik is derived from Trent Reznor, the lead singer of Nine Inch Nails. Other tributes include the reversed N on the movie poster, early press articles describing Reznik as experiencing a "downward spiral", and the fact that the original script had NIN lyrics on the first page.

anyway, this is a great movie, especially the second time when you catch the little things, such as

***spoiler***

the car accident scene on the scary ride, and when the mother is running towards him when the son is laying on the ground, during his seizure, he instead sees flashes of her running towards the little boy during the actual crash.

there are a few things i cant grasp right now, but i am midmovie, so hopefully i fill have them figured out afterwords.

i thought it was a good movie, but it was really odd because i watched this, and then i watched american psycho without knowing that they were even the same person.

it is amazing how different he looked isn't it? he was so freaking nasty too, it was painful to watch him.

^I love the fact that he went to such extremes in order to portray this character. There's just something so appealing about method actors. I gained a great deal of respect for him after seeing this film.

I watched the film for a second time... and even knowing the "end" it was still a brilliant film. It drives me nuts when people go on and on about M. Night and how he gave all sorts of "clues" in The Sixth Sense... while The Machinist was packed full of more clues than M. Night Shamalama-ding-dong could have ever oulled off. The story, even when knowing how it ends... it's still left to a shitload of interpretation. You might know what happened... but you don't know what happened-happened. That lack of comprehension is actualy a strong point in most of the movies that I hold in high regard.

The Machinist

The best film I have seen since Momento. shit is redick!

Plot Outline: An industrial worker who hasn't slept in a year begins to doubt his own sanity.

Any else seen this gem?

sorry but i disagree, this movie is a watered down parody retreading elements of Momento and Fightclub which were far superior movie.

oh did i mention it was slow and booring?
dont get me wrong, i really wanted to love this movie but it just left me flat.

definetly saw the twist coming, I actually said to myself it better not be one of those movies where it turns out to be himself and I was right. I still thought that it was a pretty good movie though and enjoyed it still.

Sorry, but there's already a thread on this film. I'm gonna have to merge the two. Please use the search engine before starting a new thread in future.

i thought it was good... not great.
of course it is insane what bale put his body through for this film... but like L2R said the payoff just wasnt big enough, good enough... whatever... to go through the slowness of the film.
i did enjoy it, i enjoyed the selective (red) saturate color while everything else was so washed out. the idea was good, the execution was alright... ti just seemed to be lacking something in the mix. perhaps it was just too predictable.

I watched this movie, and almost immidiently went out and bought it. Very good movie, reminds me of the lack of sleep i got when i stocked shelves from 12-8am, sucky ass job. Love the movie .

watched this last night and enjoyed it much less than the first time. meh

^I probably liked it even more the second time.

I noticed a lot of things I missed the first time around.

I'm surprised I hadn't commented in this thread before. I saw the movie about 1-2 yrs ago, and was blown away by Bale's physical appearance. The story overall didn't strike me to hard, but was decent. Hrm....perhaps I'll have to go back and watch again, to notice more of the actual movie, and spend less time marveling at how the funk Bale was able to do what he did.
