This new thriller starring Christian Bale and directed by 'Session 9' director Brad Anderson really looks interesting. Its about time an original idea has arised and this looks damn good. Bale apparently lost so much weight for this, he looks like a skeleton, and apparently gives an OUTSTANDING performance.

This is what the story is about:

THE MACHINIST is the story of TREVOR REZNIK, a lathe-operator who is dying of insomnia. In a machine shop, occupational hazards are bad enough under normal circumstances; yet for Trevor the risks are compounded by fatigue. Trevor has lost the ability to sleep. This is no ordinary insomnia.

Check out the trailer here:

Cant wait for this, if anyone can find a release date for Australia, please post it here, thanks alot.

thanks for the link. session 9 was excellent and this looks to be excellent too. christian bale looks terrible :)

alasdair

Alot of people say it has a link with Nine Inch Nails; though we'll have to wait and see the movie to comment further; Personally I rate Christian Bale very highly as an actor and to make himself look like that for a role he deserves respect, just seen a recent picture of him and he has gained some weight again, no doubt with his normal solid build he will have no problem getting back to normal, though it was a risky task, again I cant wait for this movie, this will twist our minds nicely I think.

that is one of the most excellent teaser/trailer's i have ever seen... reminds me of when i saw the trailer for memento...

This was supposed to have been one of the best movies shown at Sundance last month. It got a lot of really positive reviews.

Release dates in AUS, anyone know?

Heard the same, reviews are very positive, cant wait.

wow i have not been this disturbed by a movie in awhile. fucking great movie. glad it finally opened where i live.

When is this great looking movie going to hit Melbourne (AUSTRALIA)???

Has anyone heard any dates at all or roughly when its coming out?

Damn!

I've got a dodgy cinema recording of this, but I'm not sure if I want to ruin the experience...

Hehe I wouldnt if I were you. Because it will surely be an experience to have an impact, so maybe wait if I were you, just my opinion hehe!

If anyone finds any date release in Australia, let me know.

on a semi related note.....

Brad Anderson in Talks for The Crazies
Source: Fangoria March 5, 2005

Scott Kosar, screenwriter of Paramount's The Crazies, tells Fangoria that the studio is in talks with Brad Anderson to direct the remake of George Romero's horror-thriller. Anderson and Kosar last teamed-up for The Machinist, which starred Christian Bale.

"I don't know if it's going to happen just yet, but they're talking about it," said Kosar, "My producers really loved 'The Machinist' and Brad is super-talented, and they think we have good creative energy together, which we do."

The film will update the storyline of the 1972 original, in which inhabitants of a small Pennsylvania town are beset by death and insanity after a plane crash lets loose a secret biological weapon into the water supply.

Kosar's credits include New Line's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and MGM/Dimension's upcoming remake of The Amityville Horror

When will this be released in Australia? And will it come straight to DVD or have a cinema release, I so cant wait for it!

I got a free pass to this one and it was really solid. I'd give it a 8.068 / 10

Saw this tonight. Very interesting/strange movie. Christian Bale (the guy from american pyscho) is the main character. He lost nearly 40kgs or something around there to play this role, he is EXTREMELY skinny. He is a machine worker that goes through some extreme paranoia.

Its one of those backwards movies that takes a bit of thought to grasp what has happened in the end.

Anyone else seen it, and want to share what they thought the ending meant? Who was Ivan????

Interesting.

I feel like a tool, sorry.

Does anyone know how close The Machinist and Batman were made? Bale is barely recognisable in the first few shots, absolutely haunting.

I cant stop thinking about it. I'd rate this movie very highly.

Great movie! Excellent directing from Anderson and as always brilliant acting by Bale. The atmosphere in this movie was outstanding, Anderson really knows how to control his audience through his atmosphere, great stuff. Not only should Bale be given credit for what extremes he met for this role, but the acting ability itself should have at least deserved him a nomination, the academy simply have no idea!

Enjoyed this! 10/10
