Loved the film.

I bought the DVD, watched it at home, then managed to find a theater that was still showing it in 3D down in Los Angeles and then checked it out there; this is possibly the first time I've ever watched a film first on DVD and then theatrically second. There are a few things that are hard to catch on TV that are much plainer with 3D and the advanced surround sound of a nice theater.

Anyway, yeah, it was freakin' amazing. It blew me away. I mean, this was the first time since Lord of the Rings where I was there. I was part of the world. It took me out of reality for two and a half hours. The story borrowed from past works, but so do a lot of great films. Star Wars comes to mind. Putting a new spin on an old archetypal story structure is perfectly artistically valid.

I'm also a huge sucker for James Cameron Sci-Fi, and this totally took me back to Aliens/The Abyss-style stuff. Call me a shallow hipless fool, but it's one of my favorite films right now. Great characters, wonderful green message...the story arc for Jake Sully really drags you into his world. His narration...his struggles...his balancing act between two opposing worlds...it's just fabulously done and it really makes you feel like you're experiencing the conflict as him. And, well, yeah, he's kind of cute too.

Five stars. I know, I'm a loser, sue me.

Dude. I agree 100% with you. The plot WAS there regardless of what anyone says. The interconnectedness of the universe, love, sadness, victory, loss, nature, beauty, the tendency for humans to destroy life rather than cherish it, etc etc. I found this flick to be all encompassing and quite entertaining. Truly an amazing movie IMHO....

my point was that it has become trendy to hate on avatar. sure, it lacks a number of the features that more 'high-brow' productions have, and appeals to a more simplistic plot that has seen a few other incarnations. but that doesn't make it a bad movie. my theory is that people have been subjected to so much criticism of this film that they are reluctant to voice and independent opinion of it for fear of being perceived as enjoying the movie despite its common appeal.

I just watched this tonight, damn it was a long movie, I thought I was going to sleep tonight, guess I'll have to pray my KPin script gets filled later, and make up for the sleep then.

Overall it wasn't the worlds best movie, but I saw it on my computer. Plot aside, it looked like it would look crazy in 3d, the fact that everything was glowing black light style, I thought that might look cool. Also I only had computer speakers. Probably would be a good movie in IMax.

Wasn't amazing, but I didn't think it was horrible. I've seen much worse movies. The plot wasn't exactly original. Overall I think the best part was the colors, I'd like to see it in 3d to see what the hype really was about, but I don't think this was the best movie ever like some people, but at the same time it wasn't the worst
