That is Sleep Paralysis - a Hellish experience that I have much experience with, 7 years of it and anywhere up to 20 times a night.
ACEi's like DPH will exacerbate it, as will use of serotonergic substances, aMT being the worst, in my experience.

Yea I figured it was sleep paralysis but the DPH does add something to it. I've had episodes when not using DPH and they don't play out exactly the same way every time nor do they invoke fear anywhere near that level. There is just something about this chemical that feels inherently evil to me.

I used to frequently experience sleep paralysis myself too...fucking scary shit, even if it's only 20-30 seconds. Took me a while to learn to take short sharp breaths which was the best I could muster. Scared the shit out of the girlfriend at the time, though getting her to shake me when she noticed the breathing helped a bit.

Thank Christ I haven't had it in well over a year now
